Reviving a Legend: 1965 Honda CB450 K0 The Black Bomber #motorcyclerewind #cb450K0
Welcome back to Motorcycle Rewind, where vintage bikes get a new lease on life, one bolt at a time. Today, we're rolling up our sleeves for a special project that's close to our hearts-a friend's iconic 1965 Honda CB450, also known as the "Black Bomber." This piece of motorcycling history has seen better days, with its engine stuck in the sands of time, but we're determined to bring the roar back to this classic.
Our journey begins with a much-needed bath, stripping away years of grime and forgotten tales, preparing the Bomber for its revival. With the bike cleaned up, we'll move on to the heart of the matter-the engine. The first step in our surgical procedure involves carefully removing the spark plugs, the silent witnesses to the engine's last breaths.
But the real moment of truth comes when we introduce the borescope to the cylinders. This high-tech peek inside will reveal the secrets held within the engine's chambers, giving us a glimpse of what challenges lie ahead. Will we find a salvageable heart ready for a second chance, or has time claimed another mechanical soul?
Join us in this episode as we embark on a journey of restoration, friendship, and the relentless pursuit of bringing vintage beauty back to the roads. It's not just about the bike; it's about the memories, the stories, and the sheer joy of breathing life into a machine that once defined an era. So grab your tools, share your thoughts in the comments, and let's get this Black Bomber booming again!
Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more vintage motorcycle adventures. Your support fuels our passion and helps keep the legacy of these classic machines alive.

My money is on a stuck carb float that hydrolocked that left cylinder with alcohol-goosed fuel. When fuel with high alcohol percentages evaporates, it leaves that 'It Came From Outer Space!" green slimey stuff. Don't ask how I know. ;-)

Gotta say, I've never seen stuff like that come out of an engine. I haven't the faintest idea what it is. Your guess of varnished fuel is as good as any, it's just that there's so much of it. I've never seen it do that. Did you take a whiff of it, if so, what did it smell like? Don't think it's RTV, though. It's all over the place in there and there doesn't appear to be any in the other cylinder. I see you've got the first episode of Talking Motorcycles up, so I'm watching that next. Can't wait to see the next episode of The Black Bomber, too.

I’d say it depends on how much money he has to throw at it and commitment. Just the fact he has the frame, motor, and other parts is a good start. These rare bikes are special and take time unlike, say a cb350. But when it’s done the payoff is great. I’m kinda in the same boat with my 68 DT1, slightly intimidated to get into it

I do half marval oil with half acetone. Let it sit for 2 weeks. Then i heat the cylinder with Map gas. When you see the vapor coming out the spark plug holes your ready to put a socket on the rotor nut amd hit it hard with a rubber mallet. Keep the torch away from the flammable acetone. I used this method on my 1974 Cb 350F that was locked up solid for 44 years it runs like a new bike.

I had a XS650, put 48+K miles on it. Needed the valves replaced, the tops had pitted . The charging system had failed. Gave the title to a guy who gave me a lift home, I'd forgotten to charge the battery at work that day. Few good memories. I think of it as a reliable BSA/Triumph, not comfortable. Mine had the step seat so, to my eye it was unattractive.@@motorcyclerewind

I just the freed up a locked CB500T this past week (basically same as the 450) engine a buddy saved from being scrapped. It was apparently sitting in a backyard with no exhaust pipes. Lots of PB Blaster sprayed down the spark plug holes and into the cylinders worked for this one and always has in the past. Lots of water got into the left cylinder and rusted the piston in place

That's a parts bike. Buying rebuild parts for the engine are like buying gold. (If you can source them). The juice is just not worth the squeeze for that old Honda. If you are just looking for a project to create "Content" then maybe cost isn't a factor. Cost would be a major factor for someone trying to put that bike back on the road.
