@neilmoore7805. I had a 1975, I think, RD350. Had an oil injector problem, so was pretty smoky. But still very fun to ride. In the mid 1970s, some kid shows up in the neighborhood with an rd200, and that bike left a big impression on me because of the acceleration and light front end. More fun than the 350 in my opinion. The guy was very generous with letting guys ride that pocket rocket, and I recall it would lift the front wheel in second gear pretty easily under acceleration.

I can confirm it does. When ignition and carbs installed correctly. Even if leant forward. ❤

I started my career in the industry at a bike shop uncrating , assembling, prepping and test riding units at a Yamaha-Kawasaki dealership. We sold lots of RD350s, probably 5 to one RD250 or more so I got to sample bunches of them. I have to say though that the 250 was my favorite because it was a bit smoother and revved quicker and cleaner. Every so often I’d get a 250 that was a real ripper and felt just as quick as a 350. I was never sure why but maybe the port alignment between the cylinder and sleeve was just right or maybe I did a better job on setting timing and carb syncing. The blue ‘73 model you have was also my favorite color. The previous owner who added that oil tank valve and warning beeper was probably trying to eliminate oil overflow from the pump due to outlet side check balls not sealing. If they allow oil past when the engine is off the bike will smoke excessively when cold even if the pump is adjusted correctly. Yes F7s all came with turn signals.

I’ve had in the past a Yamaha DS7 250, RD250 and RD350. Loved then learned to rebuild the blindfolded. Wish I had one but these days there thousands and most no titles. When I was in me 20’s I used one tag for about everything, never worried about being pulled over, on the Suzuki side at one time I’ve had from the GT185 to the GT750 water Buffalo. Not all had titles but rode them anyway Miss those days sighhhh Love your videos

I had an RD200 when i was 17. It had micron pipes on and sounded so good. Unfortunately though it wasn't a reliable bike. It would break pistons across the ports and a T shape piece would drop into the crank. It happened several times and needed an engine swap each time. I gave up on strokers and traded it for a 400/4 Honda. I was so mean to that thing but it took me everywhere. No more strokers after that.
@motorcyclerewind18 сағат бұрын
That’s crazy. The 400/fours are awesome. Thanks for watching.
@T.Rathfelder4 сағат бұрын
It's quite a deal getting it adjusted perfectly for optimum power. The strong 12V ignition provides a hellfire in the combustion chamber. If something's missing you get the piston burnt up very quickly. But if cared properly no need for issues. Once the later piston type installed. The original with the L shaped rings weren't ideal... I agree on the sound. Somehow different to the 250. More flat and clapping but in a joyful manner. When I ride it around every passing dog becomes ferocious! Just no more custom to hearing those two strokes nowadays
@RedBud315Күн бұрын
My 1st bike @16 was that same Blue '73 RD250 and then about a year later picked up a '75 RD350 that was basically a track bike with a head and tail light and only a tach. I used to blow away all those CB750's stop light to stop light until one day I was surprised by a VF750-F Interceptor. Today I own the '76 RD400 in my profile pic and an XR150L. In between I had my share of triple digit HP bikes and did some club racing so now I figure its more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.

Another great blast to the past with this episode Eric, great to see and hear that beautiful RD250 burst into life. Judging by the drum front brake its a very early RD "A" model as the later ones in the model year came with a disc brake, the bikes before were the YDS7(250) and R5F(350) and they had drums and YAMAHA probably used up some old stock. It also sounded like the clutch was slipping just as it came into the powerband, but hopefully some more miles and an oil change will sort that out.

I was a young adult in the 1970s. My Army buddy had an RD350 and it was quick! But he wrecked it. Can you really fall asleep riding a motorcycle? He says he did. I remember the RD250 as the poor man's RD350. I don't think it was popular. My buddy replaced his RD350 with a Suzuki GT380 triple two stroke. He put a Vetter fairing on it so it was a good touring bike. Remember we had the 55mph Federal mandated speed limit then. I had a Honda 550 Four cylinder. It was a great all around bike. I traded for a Harley Electra Glide and it was broken more than it was running. I actually bought a second motorcycle just so I would have something to ride everyday. I got a Suzuki T500 two cylinder two stroke. It wasn't a rocket ship but it was reliable. Later I got a Kawasaki Z900. That was a fun, reliable bike too. Those were good times for motorcyclists and there were many more bikes on the road. All the muscle car drivers switched to motorcycles.

Yes you can fall asleep while riding. I was on my CB750K1 on my way back to Ohio from CA. Riding east on I80 across the desert, a hot wind, and the drone of the CB's exhaust off to sleep I went. Believe me it is a high pucker factor to wake up off the road in the sand at high speed. Don't know how but I didn't drop it, needless to say I was wide awake after that!

@ chk oil levels, adj clutch per manual and it’s possible to burnish the clutch old school. Put front wheel up against a wall . Engine running, second gear, rev then let clutch out 5/6 times, just partially dont kill engine, just pop it some each time . This will burnish the friction discs . Let clutch cool , chk adjust then ride it. See how it does . Oh, new spark plugs always and fresh fuel . Sounds like perhaps the baffles were shortened to reduce back pressure. Enjoy

This little bike provides so much fun, absolutely amazing 😍 As for my RD 50 as a daily driver I'm working on a 250 to get her back running 💨. It's the coffin shaped one with 32hp as it was sold in Britain. But to be honest, the 200 is the most exotic with it's dynostart. Just a blown up 125cc with the power ratio of the 350 from 110hp/ltr. Some modifications on the frame and suspension, seat position as I am a tall person, windshield and your ready to run! Thanks for your video and have a great day 😊
