The People of Haida Gwaii, their culture and art, the moss covered trees and the beautiful forests of Haida Gwaii inspired one of Canada's most famous artists, Emily Carr. Curiously enough, her art was transformed by her introduction to the works of Vincent, who is of your heritage. Emily traveled solo to the islands where you have ridden Alaska. It's poetic. Solo traveling White women on the same islands, separated by a hundred years. Emily with canvas and oils, you with motorcycle, camera and video --both of you artists bound by the beauty of Earth. Happy Trails!

Between deciding where you are going to go, then planning the trip to where you want to go, then taking said trip and having to change your plan when the roads get bad, then finding a place to eat and sleep and get your hair done. Then you have to find time to edit your videos, and you do a tremendous job of that. I just want to know what you do with all the spare time you have to just goof off and do nothing. There are not enough words in the English language for me to be able to tell you how much I enjoy your videos. I'm 71 years old and you and your courage inspire each and every time. Haida Gwaii is considered the Galápagos Islands of Canada as during the last ice age the ice didn’t reach the islands, so it was a fauna and flora refugia. The bears have evolved to be bigger than on the mainland and the deer much smaller. When we first visited I thought all the deer were babies! Unfortunately there is overpopulation of deer, which love to eat the seedlings of the iconic Western Red Cedar.

@@mchozen2958 --- You did not see any huge trees in this video because most of them on Graham Island were logged out from 1940 - 2010. There were massive stands of trees before that rivalling the Redwoods of California. The Gwaii Hannas National Park on the un-touched southern half of Moresby Island, established in 1993 after years of struggle by the Haida People and environmentalist supporters, preserved many groves of giant trees and several ancient abandoned Haida Villages. I made a long comment about its difficult establishment under "Ride of the Valkyries" highly-liked comment.

Just an advice, one time a moose run in front of me on the highway here in Ak, I asumed that he was gone running crossing paths in front of me when all of a suden he turn around and run back into the road where I was driving, the way he did it was too fast for me to react from an unexpected move, I almost crash with him, so I learn to be cautious and pay attention all the way while they are in front or running by the side of me, they are wild animals and they like to run along with you, when they try to get out of the road if they can't get acces into the woods they will go back to the clear road very fast, "I learn how they changed their path all of a suden". They are wild animals and that's what they do, take care.

British Columbia has a lot of rain forests
@davidmarshall718
@davidmarshall718 2 жыл бұрын
However, most of that forest in the drone shots was re-growth of a completely logged area, which is why the trees were so small, dense, and light green, and all the dead trees in that lake and on the beaches for endless kilometers was all old logging debris. Huge scale corporate logging, mostly foreign-owned, occurred on these islands from 1940 to 2010, billions of dollars of high quality timber was removed, mostly for export, and the Haida People got almost nothing from it, even the province got little in tax compared to what the corporations made, as the Provincial Gov't of those times was very "corporate-business-owner friendly". In the early 1980's, the corporations turned their attention to the largely un-touched southern half of Moresby Island, and the Haida People, backed by British Columbia's powerful environmental movement (Greenpeace was originally founded in Vancouver in 1970) said enough was enough, and after many years of hard political / social / cultural struggle and some physical confrontations with the logging companies and even their employees, the Gwaii Hannas National Park was established on the untouched southern half of Moresby Island in the late 1980's, it was a significant moment in the re-birth of Indigenous Rights in Canada and in the preservation of what was left of British Columbia Province's (BC for short) original nature. Many more Parks followed across the Province and the timber industry was more strictly regulated after more major social activism in the late 1990's which included large protests by both sides of the debate at the Provincial Legislature (Parliament) Building in the BC capital city of Victoria, and I write all this as the son of a 45 year-long small logging company owner/manager, which logged on northern Vancouver Island of BC and gave some thought and consideration to responsible logging practices.

@@Gommblotz ---- well, you stick around for 500 to 1000 years so you can see those trees grow big and majestic cuz that is how long it takes. It is NOT unreasonable to preserve SOME of the landscape as it is, and as it was, before SOME European-Canadians thought they could destroy it ALL for the almighty dollar, or to export it cuz other countries like Japan and the USA don't know how to build houses out of stone or brick, but build it out of wood cuz wood is promoted there by the businesses that produce it.

Really the only way to truly explore is by kayak which my wife and I did several years ago. It’s an amazing place. Fun fact-one of the reasons the Haida Gwaii black bear is the largest in the world is because it has adapted to its environment and has the ability to forage beaches and estuaries for all manner of sea life. It has evolved on these islands for so long that it’s jaw and molars have developed to the point where they can dine on bivalve mollusks like barnacles. Also a hunter on Haida Gwaii is allowed to harvest 15 deer each season. They are quite small but very numerous and have no natural enemies. They are quite invasive being introduced by European back in the 1800’s. They have now spread to almost every island and destroy native trees by eating saplings. There is a government program that is trying to eradicate them. If planning on hunting the Sitka Blacktailed deer you should check BC Hunting Regulations as they can change from year to year.

2:55 Lady Noraly becoming a true Canadian with a perfect "Eh"! lol You have seen during your trip, more of my country than I have in my 52 years. but if all goes well I might become an owner of a Honda NC 750X dct summer 2023/2024 and if that dream become true I want to leave from home in Ontario and do a circle around Canada, "if" I have enough life left after that it will be to visit as much of the USA as I can before thinking of doing something similar in the UK.

Looks like it was filmed before HM The Queen passing on 8th of September - Noraly surely would've made a comment on that matter. So videos are published at least 2 weeks late.

Impeccable timing! Noraly Island! I have seen many places, cultures, landscapes on this channel, but this, in my opinion, has been one of the best places. Not only for the beauty of its place and its fauna. She was very happy. The trip on the beach was very similar to the one in Costa Rica. My mother always says that she looks very tired. She's going to love it when she sees that she went to get her hair cut. 5 Bears... Be careful Noraly. Always strong, always brave, always adventurous, always beautiful! Pura Vida!

Cold, yes. Forty three to forty five degrees C year round. But with a good wet suit or dry suit there is some of the best scuba diving in the world. A day swimming with seals and the Great Pacific Octopus (largest in the world), then a fine supper of Dungeness Crab and Ling Cod on the beach and watch the Sun set, (if your lucky). Can't be beat!

South, from where she is, there is an area called the Sunshine Coast. Most of the Oceans here are very cold, but this area has a beach that has such warm water and white sand that it is nicknamed "Little Hawaii"

IT IS COLD ! North Pacific Ocean, just above freezing 12 months of the year. A large warm current from Australia keeps it from freezing in winter though, and contributes to the huge rainfall along this whole northwest coast from northern California to southern Alaska.

One of my favourite places I’ve travelled so far. Planned to spend a week up there with my touring bicycle, ended up spending 2! Anyone who’s considering going, pack some rain gear and go for it. Biggest recommendations are Tow Hill up north, and a hike up Sleeping Beauty if the weather is clear. Drone shots look fantastic!

I know what you mean about the forest being mysterious. I once spent five months in Whistler, BC. The forest is just like you see in photos. Kind of a gloomy, misty feel with sunlight poking through here and there. I kept expecting to see elves and gnomes flitting through the trees.

I’m surprised that a foreigner would visit the Queen Charlotte Islands. It is a fantastic place that not even many Canadians visit. It is not a great place to visit on a motorcycle. I spent two weeks on the islands traveling and living off a Zodiac powerboat and camping on beaches. There are tons of Bald Eagles and Ravens. The indigenous residents are really friendly and happy to share their culture and history.

When I lived in Masset, I remember the Island deer being EVERYWHERE! Little guys, at most 90lbs (40kg). Hunters loved it, as the season was six months long, and the bag limit was ten. More people were fishers up there though, with 300lbs Halibut, and loads of salmon. People used to try giving tinned salmon away as they had so much of it. And, yes, the weather changes a lot - sun, cloud, rain, wind, calm.... all on the same day. In Masset, it actually did not rain very much, but it did rain every day. I remember it trying to snow once - not very successfully!

"Where did time go?" To the beach. Time went to the beech for a bit. 🤗 That mossy forest really was a beauty. Probably not least because the trees aren't planted in lines, straight and centre like I know it from bloody every forest here in Germany. Deep in the forests, the trees only have small green crowns far above, all one sees from the ground is sticks. They kind of look like racks of toilet brushes. It's pleasant to see natural forests for a change. 🥰 Thankee for another loverley episode and another day made! ☺😍 P.S.: Good job, Mrs. Hairdresserette! 😃
