I can vouch for the 49cc Ruckus. Did a 5,700 mile trip through the northeast USA and Canada. Most nights just bounced down a logging road to camp. The look on people’s faces when they saw a Missouri license plate on a scooter in Quebec City. Great machine.

A few years back I rode a bone stock 50cc Ruckus 7,330 miles across the US and Mexico. Solo. It took me three months and was the adventure of a lifetime. I camped most of the way. The Ruckus was bomb-proof. I started in Pennsylvania and rode into Mexico...then from Mexico to California. The goal was a 10,000 mile heart shaped route spanning Canada, US, and Mexico. I got hit by an RV in California and broke my arm...then proceeded to ride for 3 more days with the broken bone. In the end, the pain was so intense I rode myself to an ER and the x-ray confirmed the Journey was over. Was it worth the broken arm? HELL YES.

He's obviously faking it. These scooters are not underpowered like that. Unless the camera angle was made to make it look not that bad there is no way it would not be able to take them up that hill. I've rode mine up VERY steep hills and yes it will go slower but it will go.
@Adenzel3 жыл бұрын
@@ChoLovingVampire They're at high altitude though, also from experience my Zuma didn't climb hills as well as it did when it had a bunch of k's on it and the clutch had bedded in right.

This is nothing. In '86 I rode a Honda Spree from S.L.C., Utah to Paradise, CA... on the highway! Saw only one cop the entire distance. He stopped me, said I was nutz and let me continue. The cop took a photo for me. If I could post it here I would as proof. I sold the Spree and got a Honda MB 5 which I drove, also on hwy, from Paradise down to Ensenada, Baja, Mexico. 33 years later I'm now on another Honda. A Shadow Sabre 1100! Lots quicker! ;)

I rode a little 50cc Peugeot scooter for a summer in Switzerland back in the 90s, often times even having a girlfriend on it. It was such a blast! Scooters and scooter culture in Europe is awesome. In the US you only really see scooters in like small beach towns. I wish they were more common, but American big roads and other vehicles make them kind of dangerous. In Europe riding a scooter in European towns and cities is often times the best form of transportation. Or at least it used to be.

I had a Kymco Super 8 150 that i bought brand new in 2012. I loved that scooter. I eventually removed the side stand and moved the battery into the under seat compartment. Even with the tires from the factory it was a beast in the mud and dirt. It was so light that I could just pick it up over trees or rocks and with the battery moved it had plenty of ground clearance. It was even better than my DRZ400s and much more fun. Scooters are the way to go if you never want to go over 55 mph.

Oh man, I was super excited for the garage sequence. I was sure you were gonna do like, at least some tire or suspension upgrades, but all you did, really, was "eyelids." Maybe next video could be "Making 50cc Scooters a Little Better for Offroading!" I'm mean, they obviously could use skid plates and longer suspension!
@samknight30456 жыл бұрын
I'll second this even though the eyelids were hilarious. Some actual low budget mods to the engine to make a little more power would have been cool to see in action, and would still probably come in at less than a single Givi side case. A 50cc engine can usually be wound up a bit pretty easily. I'm assuming an exhaust and proper jetting or even a full intake swap on the ruckus would be pretty simple.

My sister and I have been riding our Ruks off-road on mammoth rides in the southern Sierras for the last ten years. The big problem is that the carburetors and the motor in general is so low to the ground that you have to constantly have to make sure to clean out the carburetor and anything else that gets dusty after every ride...otherwise your Ruk won't start. They are also terrible in sand and mud because of the fat tires. Having said that, they do perform well enough for us and we have done some incredible riding on them off-road both in the Sierras and the desert!

Well in South-east Asian countries we used moped as adventure bike. But most of our moped are 100cc to 150cc. Even on long trip our moped just go on without any trouble. Just small fuel tank but we overcome it by carrying extra fuel in 4 litre bottle or 10 litre Jerry can. Our moped are diffrent than American moped because most of our moped used semi-automatic transmission where we don't have to engage the clutch to shift gears. Some moped in our countries has manual clutch shifting. Some of of them had used moped to cross continents to show how reliable our mopeds for long distance adventure.
