Yes, you can throw your dirtbike in the back of a truck, or behind a four-wheeled vehicle on a trailer. There’s a reason that’s the go-to technique for motorcyclists. But here at On Two Wheels, we’re always looking for an excuse to use a motorcycle instead of a car. So, when we wanted to ride the red rock and powdery sand of Utah, we knew we could find a way to tow dirt bikes behind touring rigs.
--
Yes, you can throw your dirtbike in the back of a truck, or on a trailer behind a four-wheeled vehicle. There's a reason that's the go-to technique for motorcyclists. But here at On Two Wheels we're restricted to using, well, two wheels. It's the name of the show after all. So, when we wanted to ride to and then on the red rocks and powdery sand of Utah, we knew we were going to have to wade into the murky waters of towing bikes with bikes.
Turns out, trailer culture is plenty strong. Frankly, we always thought those people towing campers or their dogs or even cargo were off their rockers. Then we looked into the market and found lots of options for towing, including special-made parts for both the Honda Gold Wing and the Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager, and no shortage of encouragement from the internet (you can always count on the internet for giving a thumbs up to a bad idea).
So the boys set out to get to Utah, with their CRF250X and KX250F dirtbikes, using only a Gold Wing and a Vulcan Voyager 1700 towing shaky, home-built trailers (using generously donated hitches from bushtec.com and marvellas.com).
Did they careen out of control, or have a great time? Watch the video to find out.

I have to say that many years ago (39) I bought a brand new Honda XL 185 SA, It was my only form of transport and I loved it. I never did any distance work but I had fun taking it to work 4 days on 2 days off for 8 years the some Green Laneing on days off it was fun. Being a road/trials bike I had to watch it in the rain but those knobbly tyres were OK in the snow and mud, And by the way later on I added a home made trials type side car to it, Eventually scrapped after some body stole it and I decided to go back on to cars

30 years ago my truck broke down. So I took the body off of the side car frame. Mounted a plank of wood and loaded up the dirt bike. Ive seen pics from the 1940s of riders removing the wheels off the race bikes and bolting the forks to a mount on the back of their street bike. Some would also remove the drive chain. Just don’t go breaking an arm or leg cuz mounting and riding back won’t be fun.
