Excellent demonstration. Replacing my motor now and this is the direction I'm headed, and your video was incredibly helpful. One more question for you though... My only concern about the Xi5 is the crappy built in transducer that won't read DSI. My front unit is an Elite with DownScan, and I'm hearing I'll have to sacrifice that to use this motor, because MG doesn't recommend using an external transducer because of the motor drive setup and the spin. I've seen some guys saying they use external clamps to make it work and keep their DS capable units running. I noticed you've got a decent front unit, so I looked at your wiring and I see the 3rd wire coming through your harness... so I'm assuming you've done just that... run an external transducer. Can you tell me how you did it? Any info you've got would be greatly appreciated. THX

We hook up the bow mount unit to our console units via Ethernet cords. We read downscan off that console unit. That way you do not have to run an external cord. Gary.

Can you use the anchor button without being hooked to a lowrance unit

Anchor rely's on the GPS from the Lowrance.

We use the XI5 72" shafts 105lb thrust on our Nitro ZV21's (shop.motorguide.com/products/940800360.html?). You can always get smaller trolling motor if you have smaller boat.

Are you running the 80 or 105 thrust?

On our 21foot ZV21’s we run the 105. ON a ZV19 it would be an 80lb.

My spotlock seems to be walking at least 7 ft or so in both left to right direction in the wind is there a way to calibrate that to cut down the walking side to side

Not sure might want to call Motorguide. Big waves 7 feet from lock spot is pretty good. Usually it locks you in a 5 foot radius.

I know this video was posted a long time ago ... but does this xi3 come with anchor mode right out of the box ?... or is it something that has to be added on ?

When I use the spot lock my boat always spins around. Or it turns atleast 90 degrees and adjusts. Is that normal?
