Just imagine, us punters at the time really did believe that Lemmy would jack it in. Then Sounds gave us a little tit bit. He’s got Pete Gill and others to make sure the name MOTÖRHEAD carry’s on. Kerrang then publishes a centre spread, pics an all. Wurzel was the one that caught your eye. Look at the pic, you’ll see why. Brilliant. Bank a Holiday Monday, May 1984. They dubbed it Mayhem Day. Hammy Odeon. Lemmy, new band members, fresh start, new ideas. Fantastic performance. Not to be forgotten. Memories are made of this. Fast Eddie, gone, Pervert Phil, gone. From what we could hear then, those two legends were not coming back. So sad. So new way forward. New products, records, tour dates, then nothing. Doug Smith at Bronze problems. No Remorse, then 10th Anniversary shows and a new album, Orgasmatron comes out. Brilliant.

Fucking brilliant! It was my favourite line-up. Those guys in that period were Motorhead. How can this not be Motorhead? Wurzel was always my pick between him and Campbell. Such a distinctive style and tone!

Mayhem day 1984- all time favourite gig. By pure good luck, we had tickets for the very front row. The security at the gig were total assholes. Loads of people piled down the front- fair enough- but them security got nasty. I was standing on a pile of broken seats, security goon tried to pull me off, some huge punk with a Mohican , shoved him away, so I carried on jumping up and down. Anyway, the real story was of course Motorhead. The power, the energy, the lights, the bomber, the smell of sweat, leather and beer, Lemmys rapport with the crowd, classic songs. I was only 16, but a night il never ever forget. I saw motorhead about 20 times, but that gig stands out
