Hell yeah, Shane! "Please Don't Touch" was first recorded by Johnny Kidd & The Pirates in 1959. Motorhead and Girlschool were on the same record label at that time, Bronze Records, and they decided to cover it for their all-too-brief collaboration, the 1981 "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" EP. The other two tracks on the EP were Girlschool covering Motorhead's "Bomber" and Motorhead covering Girlschool's "Emergency" (featuring Girlschool's Denise Dufort on drums). Years later, Lemmy would occasionally join Girlschool onstage for performances of "Please Don't Touch" (a few of those clips can be found here on KZbin). One more fun nugget... Both bands had songs featured in the film, "Zombie Nightmare" ("Ace Of Spades" by Motorhead and "C'mon, Let's Go!" by Girlschool). Thanks again, brother! I'm glad you dug it!

Girlschool opened for Motorhead on the Bomber tour and became besties. So ... they got together to issue the St. Valentine's Day Massacre EP which includes a cover (Please Don't Touch) and each band covering a track from the other band. Fun little release.

I've still got that single. The 'B' side is 'Emergency' and Girlschool's cover of 'Bomber' - which is actually pretty good.

Their cover version of "Race with the devil" originally done by Gun in '69. That's the one I remember when you mention Girlschool.

Girlschool are still active, 40 years later. Enid left last year, and Kelly Johnson (original guitarist and singer, the sole American) died in 2007. Kim and Denise are still in the band. The band started as Painted Lady. They were all - except Kelly - from the same school in Wadsworth, South London.

Kelly Johnson was NOT American, she born in Edmonton, London, UK in June 1958.

And the shaking is a reference to doing tons of speed.

No it’s not. This is a cover of a song from 1959
@beauzer364 жыл бұрын
@@shaebryant1916 I didn't say who wrote it. I'm saying when motorhead does it they're talking about being jacked up on speed. How do you know whoever wrote it didn't write it about speed? Speed was around and extremely prevalent in show business in 59 ya know.

Jeff Beck heard Kelly Johnson (the blond guitarist) play and said, ¨there is no way that is a girl playing.¨ DJ John Peel said it was the most sexist thing that he ever heard.
