there are so many more layers to this movie on top of the language though… every character is so well written and performed, you don’t need their backstories to know everything about them and how they fit in. it’s a great representation of the late 80’s and 90’s london underworld and it’s dynamic, but also a sort of homage to the pop culture of that time

just a shame they picked a yank to star in it. Guy Ritchie said he wanted to cast Paddy Consadine for the role of Micky, which would have been so much better, but Madonna pressured him to picking a rather mediocre alternative in Brad Pitt because a) she insisted on an `American being in it *heurghhhhhh* makes me sick, and b) because she's pals with Pitt. Bad choice, Consadine would've been. million times better.

If you liked it, there's a handful of others that are very similar, or have the same feel to them. From the same director, there's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and also RocknRolla and The Gentlemen. He uses a lot of the same actors as well. There's another one, different director, The Layer Cake, that is about UK gangsters as well; it's a bit more serious but also really good.

I think most people arent USED to a tight script, they just lackadasically watch a movie. if you do that, you miss the true brilliance of these kinds of movies, like Back to the Future and The Godfather. You miss the box of plutonium or Sonny speaking out of line, and you later on, you miss out on part of the movie b/c you werent paying close attention.

Fun fact when Bullet Tooth Tony goes into the hallway to retrieve the case and has to repeatedly shoot Boris the Blade to make sure he's dead - he shoots exactly 7 rounds through the wall before breaking down the door and reloading. This is accurate - .50 Caliber Desert Eagles have a standard mag size of 7 rounds. And you can also count the number of rounds he shoots in the hallway at Boris at exactly 7 too which explains why he's empty when he goes to kill Tyrone. Just a nice touch of movie realism for bullet count.

Pikey didn't used to be an offensive term in most people's eyes. But it's slowly become one over time. Depending on where you're from, and how much interaction you have with Gypsies, determines how often you hear it. Where I'm from we have travellers passing through fairly often and they tend to leave their campsites in a mess, cause issues in towns getting drunk and fighting, and steal things. So they're called Pikeys pretty frequently around here.

This movie is great, and I'm happy you liked it! Now go for more movies like this, like Rock'n Rolla, and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. And maybe a movie that is a little sweeter, American Cousins from 2003, with Gerald Lepkowski as Roberto, an ice cream, and fish and chips, shop owner in Glasgow, who gets visited by two American cousins. They need to lay low for a while, after business related violence and death. He has no idea what they do for a living! But they respect him, after a while, because they can see he is a good person. I just love that one! Oh, and also Beautiful Creatures from 2000, with Susan Lynch and Rachel Weisz. Two girls who don't know each other, but they both have violent boyfriends. And one night they meet by accident, and make a plan for how to get away.

I've heard of several cases where someone working with pigs have (probably) had a heart attack or stroke in a pig pen when nobody else was around for a while. they usually just find some torn clothes and boots on the scene. Or perhaps it was a murder... Pigs are scary! But to be clear, most animals that like to eat meat (including pets like cats and dogs) will start eating you if you lie around dead long enough and they are stuck with you and hungry. Btw, Snatch is one of the best Guy Ritchie 'mafia' movies. He made many, and this is probably the best of his classic works (the best modern ones are The Gentlemen and King Arthur). But he also made an absolutely amazing fantasy movie that I totally love, which was a total box office disaster 😢. People are stupid... it also had the absolute worst promotion and came out in the same week as two major blockbusters. One of the worst things to happen to modern cinema in my eyes because it means we won't have any such amazing movies again :'( :'( .. same thing with Alita: Battle Angel. An amazing movie but with brainless, lazy promotion so nobody knew it even existed until it came to Blu-ray. So from Guy Ritchie, I totally recommend: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (btw, the worst thing about it is that it's supposed to be about King Arthur; it would be better as a totally independent mythology because it is - it's a very different take on fantasy).
