It's not accurate in terms of being close to the actual accent, but it's authentic in terms of how wildly incomprehensible the real accent is for most people

Pitt's accent is so bad the extras had to mould to it, because Pitt had seen Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and wanted to be in Guy Ritchie's next film.

Honestly you deserve credit for taking on this movie as a non native English speaker. And in a similar vein, hearing you use the phrase "willy nilly" was fantastic hahaha

My thoughts exactly! 😅 to use the phrase "all willy nilly" in proper context is a sign of an outstanding grasp of American English nuance and culture. Impressive for a non-native indeed!
@akyhne

Except willy-nilly origins from the UK. Its modern origin derives from Shakespearian expression "will ye, nill ye". Shakespeare was of course English. But it actually has its history back to 880 AD.

there are so many more layers to this movie on top of the language though… every character is so well written and performed, you don’t need their backstories to know everything about them and how they fit in. it’s a great representation of the late 80’s and 90’s london underworld and it’s dynamic, but also a sort of homage to the pop culture of that time

If you liked it, there's a handful of others that are very similar, or have the same feel to them. From the same director, there's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and also RocknRolla and The Gentlemen. He uses a lot of the same actors as well. There's another one, different director, The Layer Cake, that is about UK gangsters as well; it's a bit more serious but also really good.

What, just think about Kill Bill especially first half of the establishment or just so many waay more violent movies like Se7en, korean movie of I Saw The Devil or even Arnold movies like Commando (or Rambos after First Blood) where the violence is so all encompassing that you don't feel it 😅 That's not even touching the ug movies like og french Martyrs, The House That Jack Built, Taxidermia, Irreversible (it has one Very long devastating scene but it is pretty justified to get the right emotion at the very end and understand the previous intensity. I kinda love that movie even tho not defininetly for everyone, Vincent Cassell is so good in it). I feel like Snatch is very tame for the comedic aspect 😅 Sometimes a movie with way less violence feels more violent for the mood of it feeling violent. Like in movies like Amores Perros or Reservoir Dogs where really ain't much of it. You just have that atmosphere of violence lurking kinda as a character of it's own. It's a talent in thrillers as is creating the atmosphere of fear in horror (which is super hard).

Also I hate when these days Netflix does this "Guy Richie Project" when he didn't write of make none of say casting etc. dedicisions but just came in to direct 2 episodes of it. It was very much the same with Tim Burton and Wednesday. It is straight up false marketing imo. Ofc the directors get paid handsomely for doing some lightwork but people will take it then on your name good or bad.

100% i noticed that she was talking during that part, too. Snatch is a tightly written and directed script. There's almost no fat in the movie, so most dialogue counts. I think most people arent USED to a tight script, they just lackadasically watch a movie. if you do that, you miss the true brilliance of these kinds of movies, like Back to the Future and The Godfather. You miss the box of plutonium or Sonny speaking out of line, and you later on, you miss out on part of the movie b/c you werent paying close attention.

This movie is great, and I'm happy you liked it! Now go for more movies like this, like Rock'n Rolla, and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. And maybe a movie that is a little sweeter, American Cousins from 2003, with Gerald Lepkowski as Roberto, an ice cream, and fish and chips, shop owner in Glasgow, who gets visited by two American cousins. They need to lay low for a while, after business related violence and death. He has no idea what they do for a living! But they respect him, after a while, because they can see he is a good person. I just love that one! Oh, and also Beautiful Creatures from 2000, with Susan Lynch and Rachel Weisz. Two girls who don't know each other, but they both have violent boyfriends. And one night they meet by accident, and make a plan for how to get away.

Snatch is a great film, however you should watch Trainspotting it's a brilliant dark comedy, about the underbelly of society (this time Glasgow rather than London) and Ewan McGregor's break out film. 'Snatch" has multiple meanings in slang such as to take & a certain part of a woman's anatomy, the use here refers to both meanings, Pikey is a derogatory term for a Traveller (romany) like Tinker or Gippo (Gipsy) specifically aimed at those from Ireland or of Irish Traveller descent.

You Tube probably gave her warnings and to bleep it out most likely.

Btw, Snatch is one of the best Guy Ritchie 'mafia' movies. He made many, and this is probably the best of his classic works (the best modern ones are The Gentlemen and King Arthur). But he also made an absolutely amazing fantasy movie that I totally love, which was a total box office disaster 😢. People are stupid... it also had the absolute worst promotion and came out in the same week as two major blockbusters. One of the worst things to happen to modern cinema in my eyes because it means we won't have any such amazing movies again :'( :'( .. same thing with Alita: Battle Angel. An amazing movie but with brainless, lazy promotion so nobody knew it even existed until it came to Blu-ray. So from Guy Ritchie, I totally recommend: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (btw, the worst thing about it is that it's supposed to be about King Arthur; it would be better as a totally independent mythology because it is - it's a very different take on fantasy).

Pikey didn't used to be an offensive term in most people's eyes. But it's slowly become one over time. Depending on where you're from, and how much interaction you have with Gypsies, determines how often you hear it. Where I'm from we have travellers passing through fairly often and they tend to leave their campsites in a mess, cause issues in towns getting drunk and fighting, and steal things. So they're called Pikeys pretty frequently around here.

Why did you block the word pikie? It's just a word in a movie

Might be my favorite movie. I have never been bored watching this flick. And I'm so surprised that Air Canada has the uncensored version of the movie available on flights.

One of my favs! Try Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. It's kinda complementary to this flick.

"Sods" is not a slur either. It's an insult, sure, because it means lump of dirt.

this movie is a series of one-liners, strung into a plot and it's absolutely brilliant.

Censoring out ‘Pikey?’ Really?? Anyone offended by that would not be watching this movie. Good reaction, though.
