Aw fuck yeah, the TS and TE50's were the best looking of the 6th gen Falcons. Even better than the boring BA's and slightly better than the BF's since the New Edge styling is more expressive and cohesive. Had the styling of all the lower range and luxury models been based on the Tickfords, the AU would've stood a chance if not actually thrash the VT's and VX's. Hell, the BA's may have never needed to exist and the Barra engine gets introduced with the AU IV or something.

@@MotoringBoxTV I'm so glad you did. I've only ever seen them in the brochure. Never in real life, never in private photos. I honestly think that Ford Australia was so forward thinking. Just pity that the design let the car down. Dads AU mk2 Fairlane Ghia was, I'm my eyes, the pinical of luxury executive motoring. Dads company cars were turned over every 3 to 4 years. The AU Fairmont in black highlighted the chrome and made it look as close to its $50k value and separate it from the Falcon and XR range. The Fairlane Ghia was big, boxy and that huge chrome grill as well as the BMW style due light headlight clusters made it really stand out.
@casey6933
@casey6933 5 жыл бұрын
@@MotoringBoxTV The first part, the flip mounting pad for the phone cradle, dad had that in the AU Fairmont and AU mk2 Fairlane Ghia. From memory, he had a Nokia 2110e cradle in the Fairmont (could be wrong) and in the Fairlane it was another Nokia cradle. Finished with the phone, flip it into the glove box, phone, cradle, cables and all. The flip cradle also replicated the coin holder slots that it would mount over. And from memory - and I could be COMPLETELY wrong. The Fairlane had mobile wiring pre installed. So the antenna, was on the rear of the roof (same location where BMW's mount their shark fin antennas), you'd remove the plug out of the mount and screw in a mobile antenna. This negated the need for the glass mounting of a mobile antenna on the rear glass. And an installer running cables through the trim of the headlining.

Well done. I don't think you missed a single one of their time, office buzzwords. I have never seen or heard of that accessory table. The general rule for rare items is, keep everything, including the plastic bag and the original cardboard box it came in. You never know what it could be worth to a collector in years to come, if AU's become collectible. When I had an AUII ute, I had the aluminium 'smart bar?' bull bar, which wasn't a very common accessory. It had it's own body-coloured trim surround, which replaced the front bumper, so it looked well integrated into the front end styling.

Nearly all I see have some sort of blemish, be it a dent here and there or deteriorating clear coat. I think a lot of them aren't well cared for. There was an AU Fairmont Ghia at my local mechanics they said is owned by a nutter that had a whole heap of issues due to his neglect. Also I came across a burgundy forte apparently abandoned with an impound notice and unlocked! I sat in the driver's seat and nearly all the steering wheel rim rubber had come off in chunks! The body looked in great condition on the outside. Shame I didn't try and save it.
