Just a Super Fun Fact guys: Most super cross 2 stroke bikes run 16:1 oil mix just to keep compression up and heat down! So when some idiot tells you thinning out your oil mix improves your engines performance. Stop and wonder why the most used 2 stroke high end engines that race prefer 16:1 oil mix over stock 40:1 like most 2 stroke dirt bikes run on you buy at local power sports store!
Not really sure why people think thinning out there oil mix going to change this engine into something it will never be to start with! These kits are only 70% aluminum! need the high oil ratio to seal the ring gaps and cool the engine as a result! One guy even though 50:1 means hes adding more Oil to gas mix then 32:1 LOL It just seems like to many people that have no idea why there bike runs bad then they mix the gas cause of the super poorly tuned carb they have then it gets passed on like it came right out of the bible and repeated by next 10 people there after while everyone listening to this stupid ass advice, following it is ending up with a bike out in my shop...
Everyone on of these guys are new but one at motorized bicycle hobby, they all repeat the same lines to me! Well a guy on Facebook told me 50:1 or even 100:1 will improve my engines performance. It's like looking into the soul of Teletubby at times! completely blank of common sense!
Fact is this regardless! 2 stroke engine has been around for 112 years! It has not changed in design in over 70 years! unless you get into EFI and power valves! but a normal kit type 2 stroke is still same design 112 years ago. I'm pretty sure if some person in that 112 years found some magical mix formula to deify all logical expectations of your 2 stroke engine it would be on the instructions by every china made kit the next day for sure LOL

I think most of the people pushing really thin mix ratios are using them to fix carb tuning issues (excess smoke and black spooge from the exhaust). If they jetted the carb for a 32:1 ratio, they wouldn't have those issues. I like 32:1 since it's so simple - 4 ounces of oil to 1 gallon.

Question. I've been building small two strokes almost 40 years. I bought a few cheap 49cc bicycle kits to play around with. After watching endless p videos about crap manufacturing, I decided to tear one of the engines down. The first major issue is the side play where the con rod connects the piston. There's so much play that the wrist pin bearing slides over half way out of the con rod! This can't be good and I've NEVER seen this in ANY two stroke I've ever built. Next is the cylinder stud bolts. Way too much slop. Then there is the crank placement. The I.D. of the crankcase was actually over 2mm narrower than the crank and bearing assy. They used two thick case gaskets from the factory and it was still so damn tight that it was a witch to turn. I had to grind the races of the bearings down over 1 mm each to get the case to close and it's still snug. Also made shims to put on each side of the con rod on the wrist pin to take up the excess slack. Any experience with this poor workmanship. Your thoughts?
@BuildBreakFix
@BuildBreakFix Жыл бұрын
Every con rod in 2 stroke moves side to side. It's designed that way. It's up and down movement that should have no play. seen dirt bikes and such, actually have 2 to 3 inches of side to side movement even. sound like wrong wrist pin bearing. There is 5 widths sold on market for these. Yd100 being smallest at 10mm wide Pk80 being middle size at 13mm width and pk50 bearing being widest 16mm wide. Never seen a lost stud hole at all unless someone stripped them out. They normally screw in 13mm into case and are bottomed out on most of these engines. Never had a crank to narrow! If anything normally 2 wide for some! Only time crank does not fit into a case. either cause you didn't press bearings into the case first and there not fully seated as a result. Or cranks rod pin is not pressed in fully to each web. Every crank for these engines of all types are a standard size shaft and width. Only thing they change is pin position to create stroke, or webs outer ring to make it heavy or lighter for piston it will use. Sometimes a Different woodruff key size.

Either you're trying to fit a yd100 crank in an 80cc case. Yd100 crank is 3mm wider then a 80cc kit crank. Or.. your crank web pin pulled out. Which would be next to impossible. But where talking China made crap items here 😆. Any 110cc, yd100, phantom 85 or avenger 85 cranks will be 3 mm larger then 59cc, 80cc or 100cc crank. This video I did on balancing cranks. Will show you what I mean in it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3TSimCci5aVes0si=p9Di39zQ4Fa2k8bB

I go by the color rule like I've always done with all my weed eaters Ive used over the past 4 years mowing yards with my dad. If you got green 2 cycle oil your gas should have a green tent to it. Same goes for blue, yellow, red, or orange 2 cycle oil lol . If your gas isn't the same color as your oil then you need more. And if you can't see threw your gas then you used to much oil which is no biggie. Just add a lil more gas to the mixture. Bottom line is it's always better to make the mistake of using to much oil which will lead to failure to start or heavy exhaust smoke versus blowing your motor up not using enough. And always premix before pouring in your tank. It's not that complicated guys. I think everyone suggesting all these different ratios is the cause of all the confusion and that's how mistakes are made.

Oh dear lol.... yeah break-in very important though. Always 16:1 *organic oil* for first gallon of gas. Only way iron rings seat correctly. Sure if they where chrome rings 40 to 1 is fine but no bike kits come with them pre installed. Organic oil let's the rings shape. After that you can run 32 to 1 organic oil or 40 to 1 synthetic!
@c.rutherford

BikeBerry is saying 40:1 "Cradle to Grave" . Which is basically a little over 3oz synthetic oil in a 1 gallon mixing tank. So how important is the initial break-in then? I'm not 100% clear. Would a 6 oz mix in the first gallon work for a 2 stroke bicycle? Then around 3oz per gallon after?
@BuildBreakFix

It's (32 to 1 organic oil). Or (40 to 1 synthetic oil). That is where most get confused. But for break-in organic 32 to 1 helps form rings better. Unless steel sleeve. Which break-in is done by heating and cooling cycles. Still same rules apply. Just depends on oil type you run. Edit: If you want my personal favorite. Kawasaki lawn care two-stroke oil. Birth to death 40 to 1. Thing will run forever on that stuff. My personal favorite now

Supposed to use organic oil. For breakins. 16:1 to form the rings. Also helps clear out crap in new engines. 32:1 organic oil or 40:1 synthetic oil. First half a tank it really counts. So if the rings seated or didn't it's already a signed fate! You will find out about 10 tanks of gas!

@@kinghenry2308 has tons to do with how hot and cold it is outside. How high elevation you live at. 2 strokes are what you call natural aspiration engine. Sucks are in based on how much piston can pull into crank case in a stroke. Second blows it into chamber to burn. Cold air is dense and hot air (temp outside) is thinner. Which effects how gas atomization works how much air fuel mix is pulled in at once! Then higher In elevation less oxygen is in that air. You be suprised how much of a change 200 feet above sea level it changes now when your say inland 500 1000 1500 lol gets even less higher up you go in %. But in my case live literally next to beach! 12 feet higher up then ocean surface where I ride and its 60 to 110f all year round here almost. So it is like absolutely ideal conditions for 2 strokes to run. If you notice! Most bikes running stupidly well are near perfectly sea level lol west coast east coast builders kind of untold side truth lol. Helps greatly. Honestly that perfectly tuned stupidly picky time consuming task. You honestly are right around what most achieve on avg. Here is other thing! Bearings on crank for the size they are. Have top rpm range of 7500rpms before failure. Even top $$$ ones after 8000k rapidly fail after repeat rpms like that. If you enjoy riding it want to keep it running long time don't run it top speed 3/4 away 6k can get yeah rolling at 35 no issues easy. That why I say I like riding 35to40mph max also why my engines last for long durations time. Sure I rip a few speed runs lol most time not running crazy speeds past 35ish

For the minarelli could you just warm up the motor for two minutes before any load to fix the cold seizures?
@BuildBreakFix
@BuildBreakFix 2 жыл бұрын
cold seizure is caused by aluminium expanding from heat faster then cast iron. since the piston expands it is now to large to move freely in the cylinder causing a soft seize/cold seize same thing! once it cools back down it shrinks moves again provided it didn't fully lock up and ring sticks as a result.
@BuildBreakFix
@BuildBreakFix 2 жыл бұрын
only water cooled aluminum jugs and cast iron jugs have this issue. no jetting, plugs, or oil mix changes that effect a cold seizure. this is main reason minarelli has not used a jog or vertical cast iron cylinder for the last 30 years in any new mopeds. vertical jug used in these bicycle build first came out in 1943 and when aluminum came into mainstream in 70s they only use aluminum that point on to solve cold seizure issues

What ring gap do you have for China dolls? I got a few different sets and they're all huge gaps not anywhere near .007-.008, eith squish of .8mm seem to be having issues as if ring gap is too big..perhaps mix is a little light also at 40:1 semi synthetic (pk80 running like 8500rpm)
@BuildBreakFix
@BuildBreakFix 2 жыл бұрын
You mean ring gap or squish? Ring gap is always huge on these. One of the reasons they suggest 32:1 oil mix as it helps seal the gaps! Normally .01 to .02 gap in rings where pin stops them. Squish depends on what type of kit you have! Most 2 stroke kits are in ranges of .6mm to .8mm and run great! Anything lower then .5mm will damage bearings and run hot. 1.2mm normally extreme end. Mas low end power as a result. After 50% throttle tends to rapidly taper off. .7mm is normally ideal range for these kits. Power band is in 5k range to 6k range as a result! Best of max speed/ take off power!

@the motorized scrapper i tell people do what works for them, I dont push my ways on anyone, but Ive had great reaults from running Opti2 since 2009 when I first got into this hobby, I've seen way more engine failures in other peoples engines from running 25:1, 32:1, 40:1 & 50:1 when they were using cheap walmart or other conventional 2 smoker oils than anyone running Amsoil or the Opti2 oils which a recommended by the companies to be run @ 100:1 I was scared to death to do the first time and was fully expecting serious engine failure, I live in central Texas where just like today 100°+ is common most days throughout the summer and so in this Texas heat is where I did my hard riding test with my first China Girl engine running a Puch Hi Hi 70cc Head for better cooling. That wasnt s auper fast bike but I could run it WOT for 10 miles non stop at its top speed of just under 40mph never as much as a blink from that engine and I have other still going after 10 years of running which will top out at GPS'd 47mph and cruise nicely all day at 40-43mph in very hot dry weather conditions. I dont say this to recommend people do what I do, I know others who have been running their CG engines just like I have been doing for years also with great service from them and zero oil related failures. There are rental vompanies for instance who use Opti2 @ 100:1 in all their 2 stroke remtal tools because they found out that there engines last longer. My wife I cut lots of firewood and have many chainsaws from 32cc - 92cc engines and I run Opti2 oil at dame ratio in all of them , Echo, Husqvarna, Stihl and they all perform excellent jist like all my bike engines. Now for the Saw build bike engines and the other hybrids, this may not work in them for some reason.. I honestly dont see why it wouldn't but I say people should figure out what they feel best with and what has proven to work for them and then do it that way and thats exactly what I do. If I were personally running the hybrid Minareli ect... engines Id be adding some degummed Castor oil in the mix since it will give better extreme heat protection to the piston and cyl bore than any of these modern 2 stroke oils alone. Maxima makes an oil called Castor 927 (expensive) but in these really hot running hybrids with cast iron jug, id be running either this or my opti2 with some castor oil added to it for the extra protection since castor oil is known to shine in hot running 2 stroke and also RC airplane engines. Just my $0.02 and personal experience, but definetily not a promotion for doing what I do. Peace... Map out...😁

I watched a KZbinr with hundreds of thousands of subscribers. He built a motorised bicycle he recommended 50-1 for running in. Then wondered why he was having problems. All the comments were saying how wonderfully he was.

Please god tell me your talking about the guy runs the creative channel LOL! You know his video on building one! I asked him since he had such a huge fan base to please tell people how to break in an engine right and oil mixes! Explained 16:1 organic for first gallon to seat rings and 32:1 organic or 40:1 synthetic oil to run it after that! His response was no one actually really runs a motorized bicycle at that lol...... was like 2 years ago! Was all over forums he blew that thing 3rd day with 50:1 out of the gate lolZ

@@BuildBreakFix No, I had to look back in my history the guy I watched was called FortNine 1.48 million subs. The video is called I built a Mountain climbing motorcycle for $200. 9 minutes 15 for the 50-1 break-in statement. Shocking this guy's channel is about motorcycles and accessories how can anything he says be trusted.

Yeah you can thank Hughes motorized for spreading that misinformation 40 to 1 cradle to grave bullshit or even 50 to 1 he says on some seen chain saws 50:1 for years. Yeah but there’s ain’t no chainsaw which has much better materials and bearings in it much better design cylinder that cools much more efficiently But also he sells them in the more he sells the better so he tells everyone 40 to 1 so they can tear up in the first six months if you’re lucky and buy another one

yeah but his chain saw does not spin a 26 inch wheel with a 150+ pound person on it LOL! moves a 1/4 chain through soft wood! one of the huge miss conceptions on these motors! Even my new saw build people told me out of the gate run 32:1 or your going to be eating liner right off jug in first 200 miles. Most people jet there carbs very badly or don't know how to at all! as a result it runs like crap on higher oil mixes. Honestly all super cross bikes I had or worked on over years 2 stroke ones! We added more oil to mix to help cool them and get higher compression as we did mods to the things lol Motorized bicycle community seems to want to not add oil to anything! Just funny!

You cant use too much oil during break in if you want it to last. I use Husquavarna Ultra synthetic at 6oz per gallon during break-in and 4oz to 1 gallon after and they spirt oil all over themselves during break-in but last for ever and ever if you do it right.

tht zero sense lolz........ cause you never use synthetic oil ever to break in 2 stroke period! defeats the whole point of seating rings and blowing out shavings. oil ratios are based on ring types, jug materials, and tolerances of rings. basic common fact for last 190 years since first one was ever built. lol just saying built 2 stroke engines every kind on these bikes pro motocross bikes for 2o years hate to break it to you but most por riders use 32 to 1 in there bikes for the fact makes more compression which puts out more power actually s there goals not foul plugs you jet your carb correctly which no one seems to do any of the above right on these bikes. just saying ms380 ms460 ms440 ms660 ms871 and minarelli and 90cc Minarelli 110cc 100cc and the 139cc cvt build all run 32 to 1 never foulowed a plug nor had one engine blow up or turn to crap or over heat out of every build. all 693 ms 460s i sold and all 133 ms660 i sold running 32 to 1 have never lost bearing yet in any of my builds i sell that people ran that in.... just saying guess just who owns it.....

@@BuildBreakFixWhat jetting would you run for a 32:1 compared to a higher mix ratio?
@BuildBreakFix
@BuildBreakFix 8 ай бұрын
@@syndeko1632 hard to answer it. Because elevation, temperature, size of the engine and engine setup. All play a role in jet sizing. Carb style also affects the jet sizing. What kind of engine do you have and what kind of carb. Chamber pipe also effects the jetting along with reed valves. So it would be like asking the blind guy which car did you see run the stop light in the accident 😂.
