@@0117ization Experience is awesome if you learn how to ride safely from the beginning. The tips offered in these videos can only help you be a better and maybe more important, a prepared rider. Can't hurt to watch and learn, you never know when you're gonna need that tidbit of information. How many times have you had to make a split second decision because some idiot pulls out in front of you or merges over without looking first. It's happened to me several times over the years. It's that experience you talked about that kept me from whipping out. I watched this video to maybe help make sure that I never have to choose putting my bike down because I made a bad decision. My stepdad rode with the Highwayman, he taught me to never lose respect for the bike. He said once you become cocky and over confident, that's when you'll end up dumping your bike. I've never forget that.

Jerry, Thanks for the time you take with the videos. I purchased a 2018 Honda Goldwing DCT tour. Using your techniques for slow manuvering with friction zone, head & eye & rear brake work well in the economy mode in manual mode in 1st gear. I practice your tips 3 to 4 times each week. Hey, Motorman! I like this format. It's very interesting to observe students and try to figure out the mistakes. I noticed that most of these riders are having trouble with turning right. And that's because turning handlebars to the right makes them slightly roll off the throttle, as a result they lose their clutch-throttle control, panic and either straighten the bike messing up the trajectory, or put the foot down. They also close the throttle even more because of their fear and that is the opposite of what has to be done to keep going.

I've been riding since I was 15 and I'm 32 now but never would ever call myself an expert because I learn new things almost everyday. On these bigger bikes, some riders tend to go too fast or too slow to manuever these courses. And then you got people that are too afraid to lean the bike and target fixation is another big thing that gets people into trouble on the road and ride into a ditch. All I can say is practice everyday. I still practice until now. These are really good videos for new and experienced riders.

I got endorsed on 11/20/20, never rode a day before my life, and I had zero struggles with cone weaves, tight Maneuvers, and I was easily the best at the Figure 8 box. The instructor eventually started using me as an example for the figure 8 box. I say this not to brag but to explain that if you listen to instructors you will do phenomenally. Head turns are so unbelievably important. If you feel like you're going to fall in a figure 8, you're not. If you have the right speed then just turn your head and trust the bike. I cut my self short on one of my figure 8s and had about 6 feet to finish the maneuver and still made it without touching the lines. JUST TURN YOUR HEAD!!

Looked down at the floor and dipped the clutch a bit too much, messed the friction zone up a little bit or didn't have enough power going through the turn. They are the same mistakes I've made a good few times. Great that you showed this as you were talking about it. Nice one Jerry.

You are absolutely my man. I'm a fairly new writer with some training from my local motorcycle training class. But I would love to have you in my area "East Tennessee" I don't want to take away from my instructors because they did a very good job. But you do explain things that seem to make situations simpler. Yes speed matters and looking where you want to go as opposed to where you bought your bike to go in the immediate are very much different. And these videos that you produce very much help me solidify that fact. I do find myself from time to time looking immediately at my bike as opposed to where I want my bike to go. Please keep up the good work. You're almost bleeding into my second course which is counter steering and things like that. You're the man and stay safe on the road.

Good video where we get to see mistakes and get a chance to figure it out before you tell us. Makes not getting it right or missing something a lot less dangerous than having to be perfect when out there and mistakes have big consequences. I commented on my “Dramatic” ride in my video 0035, but these lessons are gentler and more forgiving situations. Thanks for your help. BTW, before my dramatic ride (video 0033-0036) I already had your videos and the book. I’m sure those techniques and lessons saved me then and many times before and since. Jerry, we had two rider deaths here locally when a TRIKE left the road and went through a barbed wire fence. I started riding in the early 1960s, and rode a 45 Servicar on errands. Learned a lot. Rider training should include rear wheel tracking whether on two or three wheels. Ride a trials bike in rocky terrain for a bit, or get on a motocrosser/enduro or ATC ( 3 wheeler, high roll center) and discover a whole new world of control. Thanks for the refresher video.

I like these mistake videos--- keep 'em coming. Most of the mistakes happen because the rider is fighting natural tendencies to do the OPPOSITE to what they should do: eg slowing down in sharp turns, instead of keeping speed up and using the friction zone/revs up slightly/rear brake

One thing that I have drilled in my head by watching all these videos is the speed 10-12 or in some cases 15 mph weather hasn't let us ride or practice yet with the usb tutorial we picked up yet cant wait to get out there and put it to use meanwhile I'll keep watching

I told your wife when I spoke to her over the phone, that I still consider myself a rookie, even though I have been riding 11 years. There is always something new to learn, hence the term rookie, to me. I was a deputy for 15 years and with all of my experiences, I still considered my self a rookie. That’s just me though. It helped me to take my older "practice bike" and gently lay it down a few times (which feels SO UNNATURAL) so that I could practice picking it back up. Helped me overcome my frustration and the next time I tipped while practicing, I was better able to pick it back up because muscle memory kicked in and I didn't get frustrated.

Wow! I need a video and a fucking book! I raced motorcycles when I came back from Vietnam. Mistakes? Well, I totaled my Triumph Trophy racing a Harley turd, half a mile ahead of him, witnesses estimated my speed over 100 mph when I hit a patch of drifting sand down at Onslow Beach and went airborne! Road my Harley Lowrider for years without incident and then my Indian Spirit for years. Now at age 77 I’m riding my Honda Fury. Yeah, I need his fucking book!

i still have problems with the u-turn to the right, but a lot of that is confidence I think. It feels very "unnatural" going that direction and I don't think my throttle control/friction zone/rear brake work is as good as it should be even though my head turn is right as it should be. I'll work on that though. Love this kind of video.

Nice mate . Not cocked a leg for 35 years so went for a pop on a hired bike here in the UK . It's amazing how quickly it comes back . Only problem I had was a wet clutch which I'm not familiar with and as I used to ride trials going slow was all clutch throttle balance so got told off nearly stopping all forward momentum and balancing the bike . (Bunny hops on a 300lb bike don't work lol) Great fun to try a modern machine though. Happy trails guys.

Btw, I had to get my EU license after a few years without riding and it was pretty hard (even though I had been riding since I was 9).... dude, I managed 99% thanks to your videos. Never too late to learn, take it slow and practice practice practice. You'll be a decent rider in no time. I can highly reccomend taking the MSF course as it will if nothing else give a confidence boost along with cheaper insurance. Stay safe out there and enjoy that new Harley.

I think when you learn to drive a manual transmission in a vehicle your always told "don't ride the clutch" plays into these slow riding exercises problems! Turning your head past where your planning on going is unnatural feeling and not looking further down the track to setup are the keys. I've taken advanced motorcycle classes and I still watch your channel especially before riding season begins

Always interesting to watch.... I have been astounded by Japanese Moto Gymkhana riders, who throw heavy bikes about in the most amazing fashion. They do modify the bikes a bit for the job, but they all must use road tyres and the bike must be street legal. The do illustrate the "look where you want to go" very graphically. Now that our lock down has eased in NZ I must do some more low speed work..... we can all get better, especially me...

It's tough for us old dogs that have been riding a long time to learn, because it's hard for us to approach this like a blank sheet of paper and listen to, and accept an instructor as the absolute authority on the subject. I've been riding all my life, but I don't know enough to write a book with a 100+ pages. I would guess it's more common for returning riders that have had previous experience to fail than new students that know that they know nothing. It's a good video and you present yourself ( as always ) as someone helping the students tune their skills rather than coming across as a superior. That makes people more receptive to instructions...Just my thoughts.

Thru the years I have seen no difference between new riders, re-entry riders, or riders with many miles. The difference is in the fear factor. The higher the fear factor, the longer it takes to get the hang of the techniques.

Hurricane season is just around the corner. How about a series about riding in bad weather. Wet roads with wind etc. . Same type exercises on a slick road, what should we do different if anything. Highway riding... in town...Daily commute to work in storms... Just a suggestion cause my truck died and my work hours are cut WAY back so my Bike is now my primary transportation for a while, here in Central FLA. Thanks for helping me to survive.

Hello Jerry, I always learn something from each of your videos and this one was no exception. I want to point out something that might help you in future videos. I'm currently between computers so I watch all of your videos on my smartphone with a 5.7 inch screen. With the camera set at wide-angle it pushes everything further away. Normally I can still see OK. In this one though, the rider was mostly in shadow with the sun behind him so it was harder for me to see the mistakes he was making. A full size computer screen would have solved this but with the quarantine going on, all our libraries are closed. If the camera was on the other side it would have been easier to see. Hope this helps you..!

I know the camera isn't always at the best angle but I'm filming while teaching the class so I have to position myself for the best angle for me to observe the students with the camera angle being secondary.

I did learn al my mistake on a road trial bike with my son and listen to people to be a better rider and they all want you to see you drop your bike 🤔🤩👍🥊which I was smarter than then and watched heaps of videos and told them things they didn’t even know

You would be surprised about the amount of people that need to do this cone routine, including myself. Number one is to remember rolling with your throttle when making a turn. Big mistake, let go of the throttle, grab the clutch and the bike immediately slows. Then when you tap your break you swear the bike just abruptly stopped for some reason and down you go! Nobody wants to admit to themselves that they need practice. Practice! Practice! Practice!. Just because you received your certificate for a license, does not mean you’re a pro rider. Need more instructors like you. 😁

Ya know, what I like is how Jerry has guys with apes doing the round de rounds... Instead of saying guys, gals who have apes can't do the cones or the figure 8 box or anything else!! I get it apes are not for everybody... BUT you are always looking straight forward down the road which keeps one from looking at the ground more over... Like most riders do AFTER years of bad habits... Chiefly bar hoping, riding with friends who aren't really good riders and/or just all-around STUPID STUFF can get one into trouble!!
