Great help. My daughters messed up the SIM reader (it's a micro and T-mobile has a nano - you need an adapter). I ordered two for their Motorola XT-1540, got it in two days. Followed the instructions (the disconnection of the screen=LCD was a little hard to follow) and replaced the SIM+MicroSD reader. Now instead of two pieces of malfunctioning electronics my girls have their phones back. Thanks for the great Video.

Thanks for the overview. One recommendation for those replacing the screen. go ahead and take off the main board. It is difficult to reconnect the screen cable. i tried for 30 minutes to get it. Once I took off the main board, the connector for the screen comes off very easy. Take it off, connect it to the screen cable and then reconnect back to the main board. Would have saved myself over half an hour. Good luck and take your time as you work with the heat gun.

Nick Wilson Hi mate. Hi. What do you think, can I use hair dryer to disasembley LCD?
@robbierisque6 жыл бұрын
I found I was able to reconnect the screen cable with the board still attached to the phone, but it was kind of tricky. It helped to put the phone backside-down on a flat table, and then bring your eye level down to the level of the table, and from there you can hold the screen just above and use a finger to slide the connector in. Might be useful to get someone else to hold the phone down so it doesn't move while you re-attach the screen. It's a PIA but it works and didn't take more than 5 mins.

Great Video! It looks like there is not a separate earpiece speaker which is used for voice calls... Is the main speaker (you point out in the video) also used for voice calls in addition to speakerphone... can you confirm ? I find voice call quality is not that good and thought it might be a separate earpiece speaker problem - if the phone only has one speaker than it looks like poor audio voice call quality may be entirely due to signal quality. ( The speaker appears ok for non voice call usage) GH

hey, do you use some extra glue to reassembly the new screen or Will the heat just do its work to stick everything together?
@PBKreviews8 жыл бұрын
we didn't use any extra glue, we just reheated the original adhesive. It all depends on how your adhesive is holding, if it has too much dust n debris on it, it wont hold as well and would require you to apply new adhesive. If you are worried, its always best to apply new adhesive to ensure a strong hold.

+LOOregano Thanks, If you look in the video next to the battery there are some gold colored screws, if I'm not mistaken taking those off will release the aluminum frame the battery sits in which is attached to the back housing. I'm pretty sure the battery also has adhesive on the back of it that keeps it attached to the aluminum frame. You would definitely be able to remove the same battery without damaging it and reuse it. You would just need to be careful when prying it off that you apply some heat beforehand to make it pry off easier so you don't bend/warp the battery too much to damage it. :)

I need help. I hope you will reply. My phone fell by accident hitting a wall on the way down. All of a sudden I lost sound. I smacked my phone and the sound came back. The sound had stopped a few occasions and I took my case phone case off and hit and then the sound was fine for a good while. Recently it stopped working due to me gently throwing the phone on my couch but this time the sound wasn't coming back when I smacked my phone. So I took the cover off and smacked it. I learned that smacking my phone where the three screws were (where you said the charging port was held) was were the sound issue was happening. Tapping that area made the sound come back and holding it for a bit then letting go seems to bring back the sound and it doesnt go back to no sound. My question is if I tighten the area with the 3 screws will this permanently fix the problem or would I have to open it all up and see if the speakers wires etc are disconnected. I don't want to put my drop my phone gently on something soft like a couch or bed and the sound goes back off again. By the way can you recommend a good screw driver to open my phone if need be.

Shade On A Cool Day hi yes it you tighten those screws it should help fix it since the contacts that touch the speaker to give it power are on the back housing. What temperature did you put on the blow dryer when the screen was warmed up?
@PBKreviews7 жыл бұрын
well if you use a blow dryer/hair dryer there really is no temp you can adjust. You just heat it up to a point that you can tell the screen is hot to the touch. You dont want to heat it up too much and make sure you aren't holding the blow dryer/hair dryer in the same spot. Circle it around and gradually heat it up. Then you can try prying it up gently. If you see its too hard you can apply more heat and keep going. Excess heat will either make the glass too brittle and break when prying off or will melt off the digitizer glue and separate it from the screen or just damage the part in general. Thats why I suggest a blow dryer/hair dryer instead of a heat gun because less chance of causing damage if you don't know how to properly use the heat gun and temps.

@ThomasMejerHansen9 жыл бұрын
+Jake VanBuschbach I also accidentally removed a connector trying to remove a SIM card.. Is this not a construction fault by Motorola? See also:www.reddit.com/r/mobilerepair/comments/3hov0x/broken_sim_connector_3_day_old_moto_g_2015/ which describe a simiar incident.. I have never had a phone where the SIM card is so difficult to work with. I talked to Motorola, and the company I boght the phone from, and they both say that there is no warranty... Breaking a brand new phone simple by changing SIM card should not cause so many problems...
@PBKreviews9 жыл бұрын
+Jake VanBuschbach Yea it will be replaceable, its a mini board connected over the main board, so that mini board containing the sim slot and micro sd is removable/replaceable. It has I believe 3 screws holding it down in place, you remove those and pull off the connector. If I were you I would try calling motorola and arguing that it was a manufacture defect due to the fact that all you did is take your sim out and that happened, see if they would honor it. I know someone else mentioned motorola didn't honor it for them but usually they should, and if not they will offer you a repair solution and give you an estimate of the price of repair.

Hi, Sorry for being repetitive, but i made by accident a smal hole in the top skeaper, the one used to calls, can you explain if that would kill my phone if it gets wet?
@MFP22418 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that thin, horrid film is a real PITA. If it's that easily broken (like mine) it seems you can also easily get a non "water resist" G3 in a hurry, turning it into a senseless feature, because just replacing that PITA of a thin film is also a PITA of a darn process. And then, that PITA film can be easily broken. Again. So I'm thinking on just leave it alone... or replace that film with something else and turn my G3 into a full ordinary, non semi-water tight phone... or not bother at all and simply get rid of the whole device. Yeah, I'm really that pissed off. Sorry. Quite happily, I still have my (better built) G2...

I took my Moto G3 to get the SIM card reader replaced and when I went to pick my phone I noticed that the ear-speaker and the mic weren't working. I couldn't hear while in phone calls and people couldn't hear me either. Only the main speaker worked but that is useless if I can't make calls or record audios in whatsapp. So I took my phone back to the service center and the man told me that the SIM card reader pops out of its place (that doesn't sound possible because there are some screws that prevent that popping) and that the sound isn't working because the same SIM card reader is connected to the "sound card" (if that exists). Could you help me verify this info he gave me? I don't want to be fooled, and if he broke my phone more than it was (it only had the sim card problem) he's gonna have to pay for it.
@PBKreviews8 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm not too sure on that, I haven't ever herd of that sim reader board being the issue for something like that though. Also the mic and speaker are located two different places so the chances of them damaging something related to both of them would be small. Maybe they forgot to put in the earpiece again? or maybe your headphone jack might be bad. Hard to tell can be a lot of things causing it.

Do i really need to apply a new adhesive? or it will work fine w/o it? *don't care about ipx7.
@PBKreviews9 жыл бұрын
it will still stick without it just won't be as good of a bond as before as long as you don't damage to adhesive too much by touching it and getting it dirty etc.
@jeetendrasinghgeek9 жыл бұрын
+pwrdbykyank are you sure it won't come out?
@PBKreviews9 жыл бұрын
+Jitendra Raghuwanshi ya the adhesive is strong it will hold just put the LCD back onto the frame and reheat it a bit and put some pressure to ensure it makes a good bond

Is the audio jack even replaceable? It looks like it's just stuck in there, and not really removable. I don't think I'll be doing all this for just a bad audio jack either way but such a stupid reason for needing a new phone. Mine keeps having issues where it doesn't register that headphones are attached. And when it does and I get to listen to music it then goes to pausing the music because it thinks the headphones were unplugged. Next phone I get I'm going to look into how repair friendly the phone is, because this is way too involved to be worth it for a cheap part.
@PBKreviews7 жыл бұрын
Yes the audio jack is replaceable, it just sits in the back housing, but you can pull it out and replace it.
@jwest887 жыл бұрын
Good to know thanks. I've been wanting to upgrade phones for a while now so might do so when i have the funds. 1gb of ram doesn't cut it and most of the time even just typing on my keyboard is really laggy. Can't afford it now so it's good to know its fixable.

After doing this is the phone still as water resistant as before?
@PBKreviews9 жыл бұрын
FubarMike if you reapply the adhesive with heat or replace the adhesive with a new one I don't see why not. It didn't have any special seal to completely prevent water from going inside so I'm assuming they have some special coating over the chips and board and that the shields over the chips are better at keeping water out.
@drakgrotta9 жыл бұрын
+pwrdbykyank when you do this are you not afraid of getting this special coating on you and in you? and that the chemical will give you cancer?

My moto g3 loudspeaker has small mesh and i can see green component a bit.So, my question is will it safeguard from water?
@PBKreviews8 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure but I would lean toward that it would still be sufficiently safe. If it bothers you though, you should open and replace it with a new mesh

I personally dislike phones where you cannot access the battery readily. Whilst I understand they did this so the phone would be waterproof but i rarely ever have my phone near water so i would rather they made a version where the phone is not waterproof and has easy access to the battery.

@martinj96476 жыл бұрын
The worst is when you need to remove the screen to replace the damn battery -_- it's one thing if it's like my old Nexus that you just removed two screws and pry the back off and you're done, but even then, like why not just cut a freaking hole in the back and slap a back plate on

The assembly of this phone is it's only real con. great all around for 200 bucks. I mean the screen resolution and the battery size only give you a longer lasting battery, but as that degrades over time it kind of kills the longevity. The G4 battery us an easy swap abd I mean the iPhone battery isn't as hard to get to by far. But given how good the battery is you can probably go two years and still get a better battery life than most flagships

@PBKreviews9 жыл бұрын
+Luke Stranksmufc The glass is only changeable by a professional with the right tools and machines. Or else it will be a micky mouse job and touch wont work right, dust under lens etc. Your best bet is to just replace the entire lcd assembly.

Reading some reviews about supposedly waterproof phones or photo cameras, there's always some people whose device died when used underwater, and (depending on manufacturer) often denied warranty because of "water damage"! On the other hand, I've used my Garmin Montana waterproof GPSr while riding a motorbike in tropical rains for years, washed it with soap and water under the tap, for 5 years already, with no ill effects. Recently had to disassemble it to replace the body (rubber coating is crumbling after all these years in hot and humid tropics), and it's quite impressive how big effort they put into waterproofing. Double-lip silicone seals, all the ports are sealed/potted with some hard clear compound. Of course, that makes it a real pain in the ass to service!

I really appreciated this video. My speaker was cutting out and I learned from another site that there were two prongs that needed bending upward to tighten the connection. This video helped me get to the offending prongs and all is working. A couple of points though - I used a Torx T5 driver not T4 as mentioned here. Could not find T4. Also one corner of the screen did not glue back down properly when I replaced it and I can see light inside the device . There was very little adhesive there in the first place. What sort of adhesive can I use to seal the screen piece?

@PBKreviews5 жыл бұрын
Probably the gold contacts behind them either have gotten dirty or bent down a bit so its not making a solid connection. You would need to take the phone apart to be able to get access to where the flash is and the contacts to make sure its cleaned out and properly making a connection. Not sure if its worth risking taking the screen off for just the flash issue etc. if accidentally it cracks and the fact you will need to re apply new adhesive. But its up to you. If your careful its doable.
