Great video - really clear instructions. Note to others - take great care when removing earpiece speaker (5:19 in video). I neglected to soften adhesive with heat gun before trying to remove speaker, as advised in the video, and damaged it. I had to buy a new replacement part which worked fine once installed. In answer to other queries, I installed the speaker with the raised, higher contacts aligned to top of phone.
@Zalfrin10 жыл бұрын
I aligned my bumps to the bottom and speaker works fine that way too. Seems it doesn't matter. One thing I did do that wasn't in the video was to move the metal mesh that covers the earpiece from the old screen to the new. It's thin but maybe it helps the speaker maintain contact with the PCB. Also looks better with it in place IMO. :)

Thank you for this tutorial! At first the phone wasn't turning on, and I assumed I messed up. I plugged the phone in via microUSB and after about 30 seconds the screen lit up displaying 0% power; the battery was completely drained. After charging for 10 minutes the phone works great now! Thanks so much.

My phone and screen worked fine, after replacing screen with one I ordered from Fixez. Color was good. Swiping was good. Resolution was good. A few things I think the video might should've noted: 1. Make sure you remove all 14 torx screws. Count them. They are small, dark and hard to see where they are hiding in place. I left one in an pried forever until I realized it. 2. The ear speaker piece came out in four pieces instead of one. It's the speaker, plus a piece of black mesh, plus a small frame, plus the wire mesh stuff that's visible. Might try heating it and pushing it from the front side to get the whole thing out to pop out the backside in one piece. Also, I'm not sure it's important but i suspect it is - note the orientation of it. 3. There was a small white flexible neoprene piece that went around some window. I just happened to notice the new piece didn't have it, so i had to remove it from the old assembly and insert in the new. The video didn't mention it. Also, there was a slender piece of foam rubber about 3/8" long in another place near the battery connector ribbon that was on the old piece but not the new. So I moved it and re-used it too. I would say compare the old assembly to the new assembly to spot any differences, and move any pieces as necessary. 4. I made do without a spudger. And I used a sharp knife instead of a pick. Lastly, I used a 10X lupe magnification in order to see the small stuff before I did anything, so I would know what I was working on. Thanks for the good video and quality parts. I feel like I can get another 4 years out of my moto G 1st generation.

Very good video! (Apart from music a bit too loud.) Question: I have to Moto G, one fell in the water a few months ago and then died. The second fell on gravel a couple days ago and glass shattered, but LCD is working perfectly, as well as touch digitizer. I am wondering if i take them apart up to the point i have motherboards detached and swap them. Screen on the one that fell in the water seems perfect, my gf said that it had some watermarks, but I connected it to the charger and screen looks perfect when it briefly turned on for charging. After a while it started flashing going from a blue screen to the icon of battery exausted - i think it's not charging at all. Now "wet" phone is not giving any sign of turning on.

Thank you very much. Nice video. XT1039 (White). Of course, I ordered a black replacement screen, not a white one, not realising which bits were white. But my son doesn't seem to mind the new look. On mine there was a small yellow bit of plastic underneath the blue protective screen, over the smaller connector to the screen. I had to open this up in order to flip the ribbon cable connector. But nit sure why I did this anyway as the new screen replaced that part. Getting the speaker the right way up was tricky. I didn't look to see which was it was before it came out - it fell off the broken screen. I noticed in the comments that it may not matter. I put the sticky up bits towards the top of the phone, and it works. Also I was left with a slight bulge where the ribbon cable came in - meaning I couldn't quite clip the mid body on properly. But doesn't seem to affect the phone, and is covered up by the outer shell. I probably didn't seat the ribbon cable properly somehow as it came through the hole. But all those Torx screws - I couldn't be bothered to open it all up again. BTW I also agree I am not sure they are T5 (could be T4?) but T5 seemed to work.

Hi, I recently replaced my screen+digitizer in my moto g phone. Both the display and the digitizer worked well (although the red was slightly less 'red'). There was a small area near the top where the touch screen sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. I removed and re-inserted the ribbon cable for the screen and then the digitizer stopped working. When I repeated it, the screen also stopped working, though the LED backlight worked. Thinking I broke the ribbon cable, I ordered a new one from another vendor. This new screen also doesn't work at all (only LED works). But the touch screen works fine. I did an ADB screen grab using the USB to computer and I can 'see' what the phone screen background image is being trasnmitted to the screen, but I don't know if the circuit is damaged or this screen is bad too. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nooman

First, you should make sure the phone's Android OS is shut down and the phone is completely switched off. Second, if you'd read the Moto G manual, you'd know you don't need tools in order to remove the back cover. Third, you don't bend the battery connector as you do at 2:32; even if you went on to dispose of the battery, it is bad practice.
