This was a great how to. Fixed my child's phone in about an hour. Had to take a copper heat sink plus some black material from the back of the old screen and transfer it to the new. Not a pretty job but it'll never be seen behind the new screen. Thanks so much for the great video.

Thanks! Screen came off a lot easier than I expected, fantastic. Unfortuately (see later post) Amazon's horrible search pointed me at the G7 Power screen and I missed it. Fortunately, returnable and I've ordered the correct one this time... :/

there is a black layer of foam-like material on the back side of the original display. this material is missing on the replacement display. what is the purpose of that black material, and is it recommended on the replacement-display? thanks

It's kind of like a heat guard, it should be moved over, but not required on these lower processor phones.

I see sellers on ebay selling just the glass without the digitizer, is it feasible to replace just the glass? My phone works fine (touch), just the glass is cracked.

If you have to ask, no. It's a very difficult repair that requires way more than just a new glass. You need glue and much more to do just glass only.

Thanks for this, it's super helpful. I was just about to begin the gluing process when I noticed that the replacement screen did not have the thin plastic surround. Unfortunately the original plastic surround had come off with the original smashed screen. Do you know anywhere to purchase the surround? I'm at a bit of a loss what to do otherwise.

A bit late but I just changed the screen today. The plastic came off with the broken screen and I just cleaned it. Afterwards I glued the plastic frame to the phone and then the new screen onto the plastic frame... Worked fine

Yes, dramatically different. G7 Power/Supra you have to start from the back and remove the battery, while the G7 and G7 Plus you start from the front.

My phone fell from the 4th floor and the screen is completely scattered and it came off from the phone and I had a rugged case on it. Also, I see there is a slight bend in the phone but without the screen, I was able to get the calls and text messages (which I came to know through the sounds). As it is my work phone I would not dare to try this myself. How much it costs on average to do it in phone repair shops in uk, I wonder. Plus does during this repair process it loses all data on the phone i.e. call history and photographs.

I have a Motorola g7 that has files not backed up and I need it. I thought that screen was the issue (its cracked. Especially at the bottom) so I had that replaced at my local store and it still isnt turning on. There might have been a drop of two of water that got on it and went through the bottom of the screen where the charging port is. Is the power supply the culprit probabably? I will pay good good money to have this fixed or to restore my files. Even if I have to buy another G7 and swap out some of the guts. Please any info? I'm desperate and panicked

So... I followed the video (well done by the way) the new screen worked for only a moment, the blue moto screen came on for about 2 seconds on my second try at install, nothing on the first try. Now my original broken screen won't work either. I was careful to not ground anything and I am wondering if there is something obvious that I may have missed. Could I have killed my phone somehow?

Might be a defective part. Also if the screen cable isn’t set perfectly it will ground and disable the touch. But if it’s installed, there’s a good chance it’s a defective part

Very. Just hold the power until it restarts after 10-15 seconds. If it doesn't work, hold volume down as well

Most likely a defective screen. Make sure to unplug the battery before plugging in the screen. Touch won’t activate until you do a soft reset on the phone.

I found it out. I has to do with the tape on de backside of the cables. Its function is to connect is to the copper layer. Now the touch screes works.
