First time screen repairer here. This video was so incredibly helpful. That said THERE IS ONE SHORT SCREW (IT HAS THE WHITE S ON IT) that if you do NOT put it in the right place, it will crack your screen. Learned this after spending about an hour going through this and breaking the screen at the very end. Tech MD - you should put a youtube note right at the 30 minute mark where the screwing in process happens. Soooo close to fixing it. :(

Just wanted to mention a couple of things. - This video is good for the basics, but please don't use metal tools to remove a battery. A little 99% isopropyl alcohol and an iPlastix (the plastic version of your iFlex) will get it out just fine. On stubborn batteries, I keep a 2" semi-stiff plastic spatula to help gently pry it out. - Same goes for the back plastic cover. The iFlex might cut the tape a little easier, but you also demolished the under-paint for a good 1-2mm around the whole edge of the back plastic (and added quite a few scratches to the cover when your iFlex slipped). The iPlastix and/or plastic playing cards take a tiny bit more work but don't damage components you're going to reuse. - Again, same goes for removing the screen. You put some pretty nice gouges in that plastic midframe when you were removing the screen. T7000 adhesive might hide a little bit of that, but it's not what I would expect from a professional repair. Use plastic tools (and a little bit of 99% iso alcohol) and you won't cause additional damage. - When you are cleaning the edge to prepare it for the new screen, you should always finish with a lint-free cloth and more 99% iso alcohol to remove any residue and give your T7000 a nice clean surface to adhere to (we actually use 3M Primer 94 adhesion promoter after cleaning with alcohol to make sure we get a nice durable seal). All that said, I appreciate these videos so I can see inside a phone I haven't done before when I've got a new repair to do. ps to DIYers- A battery fire is a really big deal. A $2 bucket filled with $3 of sand can save you from major damage to your home if you accidentally do cause a battery fire. Just drop the battery in the bucket, scoop some sand on top, then take the bucket outside to a well-ventilated area and let the fire run it's course. It's a $5 safety net that can easily save you hundreds of dollars in floor repairs and/or fire remediation.

Really wish I had read this before I started. Had a thought that a metal tool to pry out the battery might not be a good idea, but rationalized that the guy in this video was using one. Did puncture my battery and have it burst into flames. Luckily did not cause damage to my house. Holy shit, that was scary though.

Josh Arneson is completelly right about what he says. Only thing I do different is I use nylon playing cards to slide under the battery. Also I never though about having the bucket and the sand, really smart idea!

Thank you for this tutorial. It was very helpful. I had good luck using a hair dryer, which is probably a better option for beginners. If you haven't used a heat gun before, it's easy to go overboard. I also removed the screen first. This made softening the battery glue much easier as I could apply heat directly to the heat shield that the battery is glued too.

If you use a brush and apply alchohol to he sides of the battery it should come out much easier. No need to ever warp a battery. Also never apply direct pressure to cables and definitely test the screen before gluing it down or preparing to install.

BUY THE SCREEN WITH FRAME, its only like 13$ more and totally worth it . Trust me it will make your life easier and you won't have to worry about cracking the screen upon installation and the seal will be better too.
@douglasflores14622 жыл бұрын
Hi, how about applying glue no only on edges but in the middle too? The original screen came with glue in the middle, I think, that helps to the screen to be stronger against cracks if dropped. And, after glueing, I just put several plastic clamps all around the screen and let it cure for about 15 minutes to half an hour (without applying heat).
@JT-mz5oc4 жыл бұрын
Anybody attempting this be EXTREMELY careful when trying to get the battery out. It's glued down tight and is pretty fragile. If you puncture it trying to pry it out it will swell, burst into flames and fill wherever you're working with toxic Fluorine gas, as I found out the hard way.

But cable is identical except the numbers 18451 instead of 19172 as on original screen. And also back of screen lacks the black coating. But new screen seems to work fine. reading so many comments on "my battery caught fire" I'm certain it's booby trapped. not sure what kind of chaotic evil business tactic this is.. lmao My screen not nearly as shattered, tho i got a splinter of glass in my thumb... my G7 screen finally succumbed to it's unintentional abuse 😭 now it thinks im touching it without touching it, cycling through all the things after i frantically tried to access anything. which i think is preventing my pc to read the files when i plug it in to attempt data recovery. the screen has an orange hue & fading as fast as the hours in a day, green yellow dark vertical lines- black & white "blocks" on the left from top to bottom, under massive curved *crows feet* crack across the entire screen starting from upper left corner meeting old curve crack bottom left & right. can still use fingerprint unlock & after a few tries... i can manage a pattern unlock.. for now. maybe one day i'll have someone fix it, the phone is perfectly fine otherwise wallpaper is still recognizable & can read most things/icons. unable to swipe up or down anymore, pushing power button brings up options but quickly disappears b4 i can power it down, then summons knock off siri & calls voice mail, opens youtube & 16 other "ghost touched" commands at once 😩 not a beginner on screen replacing, but its been a while, things have updated since.. I am extremely apprehensive of attempting this myself & do have a spare phone. Main concern is, is there a way to recover data? specifically notepad lol which sadly is on internal storage I mentioned an "interference" when trying to access my files on pc, usually i can access everything, inc. notepad. which is my main concern. if the phone is now constantly "sensing" multiple touch's & I plug in to pc, would this be the reason the pc says "moto - folder empty"? assuming a series of ghost touch interference being the culprit. is there a way around? 😭😭 I rather cut my losses and get my data if possible, if it means not setting off some Indiana jones meets the Goonies type booby traps & setting my house on fire -sorry for the story lol painting a sad picture for my beloved materialistic thing - aside.. thank you for this step by step.. I'll save this should I get brave 🤞

@TechMDYoutube4 жыл бұрын
Yep. Not worth just replacing the glass
@Clikism4 жыл бұрын
A lot of DIYers don't understand, reasonably so. The screen is an assembly that includes the glass, digitizer (touch sensor), and LCD screen all glued together. Asking a shop to replace the glass only is like asking your car mechanic to replace just one part of the alternator when it breaks, instead of just letting them replace the whole alternator. In large cities, you might find 1 or 2 shops that have the specialized equipment and expertise to do a glass-only repair but for the average independent repair shop, we just don't have the volume or resources to do that type of repair. Instead, we send these screens to a specialized refurb facility to be repaired and resold. They give us a couple of bucks for the screen and it keeps it out of the landfill.
@douglasflores14623 жыл бұрын
Good video, but the title reads "glass replacement", you should remove the word "glass" and keep "LCD screen" I am looking for a video to replace the outer glass only, because my glass is cracked but the LCD and digitizer are good. Use more plastic tools to avoid scratches, and or puncture the battery.
@TechMDYoutube3 жыл бұрын
I title that on purpose because I’m removing the glass and Lcd. You may look and look and look forever but you’re not going to have a proper equipment to do that unless you’ve already purchased $5000 worth of equipment. I try to explain this in my video that don’t try to attempt this repair class only when it’s only $20 to fix the screen. Use iflex with iplastic and you’ll be fine

Ok.. this guy is very crude and as he admits,"pathetic" at times. First of all, don't use that glue he uses. Most times you can simply reuse the little bit of adhesive that's originally on the phone. If you need to repair it again, it will be easy to fix. The option is to buy a case that will not only hold it together, it will also protect it from damage. MOST importantly, the screws, might be special 6 point "STAR" drivers called T4(especially on the G7). You can buy it at Lowe's for $9. Also, no videos show it, but there are two seams all around the screen. Use the top seam, closest to the top, not the frame. Good luck. These are the reasons eBay sellers have so many negative reviews. Rough & tumble amateurs break their phones and need someone to blame.
