Very good presentation on how to get into those Jedi series radios. We (contract manufacturer in Plano Tx) used to build the 5100 series EFJ radios back in the 2010 time frame ... I did a presentation for internal use and still have pics of the legacy automated EOL test sets used then as well as the new test sets with the Tektronix rack gear ...

Thank you ! I remember the 5100's and played with them a few times but the agency never purchased any. Went to an APXnext demo a few months ago - The LTE folks are pushing hard for the LMR market. Time will tell but radios are becoming more and more like devices. Thanks for watching !

Yepper.., the ol' missing pixels in the display. Years ago. I remember Motorola sent out a bulletin indicating that they would replace/repair the display for free. Those were the days. Anyhoo..., glad you were able to return the MTS to its former glory.
@survivalcomms4 жыл бұрын
Thank you ! I had 75 that fell under the free replacement bulletin in the heretofore. Some of those replacements went bad too before they were surplussed . I have 12 or so examples in my collection that never had trouble. One of those variances in production period I suppose :) Thanks for watching !

I still work on these displays for the work, never had the ribbon cable below the display need heating up, it's always where it goes into the lower board....(easy on the heat also) I maybe can get 1/3 to half back to work again, but it takes time....

Ok thanks for the tip I have 50 or so to work on. I will give it a shot. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching !

@@survivalcomms sometimes...I have to go pixel by pixel to get that display back.... just by some heat & hold the ribbon cable down with a (not sharp) flat tip ...1/8 tip works well....

That's where the old display hot bonding jig for Bravo and Alpha Bravo pagers would come in handy. Repaired many pagers in the day that had faulty displays, the Motorola hot Bonder was well over $2K, thank goodness there were a few aftermarket clones at half the price. Now for the really ultimate radio of theis series was and is still sought after, the JT1000 with the bit set for keypad programming.
@survivalcomms4 жыл бұрын
Yes that would have worked out well. I still have 70 + JT's that I maintain. Its a pain to PM them though and fortunately the ref osc's don't drift too bad. I obtained a huge cache of legacy smartzone U split MTS 2K Mdl 3's that I parted out for good displays and housings a few months back. I'm lucky to work with other hoarders :) Thanks for watching !

@@survivalcommsstill have my HT1000 but it’s in need of a new battery, hopefully I can find one in the original chemistry of NiCd. I have the MVA to this radio that I bought years ago. Got a great deal on it since it was for 800MHz. Went scrounging in my parts box and found a 450 split PA and did the swap out. Tried it out and I was putting out 60 watts! WAIT! 60? Checked out the service manual and found out there is a "T" pad attenuator in it that has different values listed for each band split. Changed out two surface mount resistors and now it sings sweetly at just under a hair of 40 watts. The joys of keeping a parts box. Now if I can only find a 286 pc or a really really slow 386 pc I can program my Saber III's. Don’t have those machines in my parts bins.

I have a MT2000 with the top display and the radio turns on and makes noise but the display won’t turn on, any way to fix it?
@survivalcomms4 жыл бұрын
The top displays are tricky to get squared away. If you feel comfortable removing the housing do so but leave the flex attached to the controller. Place a battery on the frame as normal and turn on the radio. Gently yet firmly compress the base of the display from with in the housing and see if it comes on. If it does this may well be a temporary fix but ultimately you will need to replace the housing. A great way to get a housing cheap is to purchase an 800mhz MTS2000 model 1 on ebay with a clean housing and swap it out ( this one is 15 bucks shipped and I am not affiliated with the seller whatsoever) : www.ebay.com/itm/MOTOROLA-H01UCD6PW1BN-800MHZ-RADIO-MTS2000-W-OUT-BATTERY-FCC-ID-AZ489FT5747/293649446243?epid=1500255931&hash=item445edef563:g:1doAAOSw2uRfDz1S:sc:USPSPriority!34736!US!-1 I hope this helps and thanks for watching !

always good info.which is why I have this question. my trc-483 cb will not power up.i can get another for $40.00 aprox. or a new in the box uniden for $44.00. both low end , but I still want a cb, even though I am a ham. I ask a sales person well the rock he has for sale is the best. just a little nudge is all I want. Craig

Thank you ! It's pretty much what you prefer. There isn't a profound difference in performance in modern CB's in my experience. What brought about the inop status of your trc483 ? Thanks for watching !
