I feel like reviewers often times look at products with a one size fits all mentality. Not every device is going to need to do it all. The smaller screen on the cover might be nice for someone who just wants to check their notifications and not be tempted to get sucked into using their phone, and it remains more useful than say something like the Nothing phone's glyphs which seem cool, but require you to put your phone face down which I feel like most people don't do, and it also doesn't add that much to the smartphone formula.

@chriscarley Жыл бұрын
See, when I look at a phone like the Z Flip 5 with a massive outer display, I can’t help but think that’s not at all what I want. I don’t WANT there to be a large display providing distractions and if I wanted to do things with my phone without needing to open it, it’d have bought a traditional smartphone. Especially seeing as Moto is selling the razr+ alongside this, it seems they understand that some people don’t want big outer displays. This phone makes a LOT of sense for those people like myself, and it doesn’t seem to be right to knock it for having a small, simplified display. It’s like knocking a gold cart because it’s not a pickup truck. It’s designed to cater to a different crowd.
@InnaBeilina Жыл бұрын
Exactly!!! Thank you for saying this! That's why I haven't "upgraded" my Z Flip4 for the Z Flip 5 because for my needs, it would have been a downgrade no matter how tempting the pre-order trade-in promotions were. I'm glad there is a rising community of the smaller-cover-screen fans. Motorola is smart for providing this option in addition the bigger cover screen one, and I hope Samsung will come back to offering the smaller cover screen options again and won't go on exclusively making the Z Flip5 type of all-black-brick cover screens. If we wanted that, we would have kept our iPhone minis, for example. I got Z Flip 4 because I was craving the effect of physically shutting off the screen instead of just pressing the side button like on an iPhone. With the big cover screen on the new flip phones now, there is no way to shut that screen off but using the side button again. And that's just one of the examples of why the smaller cover screen is a better way.

I don't want a big display screen on the outside of the phone. I like this form factor. I simply want a big phone to use that I can fold and put it in my pocket to easily carry it around all day. I'm tired of the "brick" falling out of my pocket and hitting the floor. If I simply wanted to use a small phone, I would just buy a compact phone. The prices are great on this phone right now! Don't you think in light of the prices that this phone deserves a better review than this, one guessing what the price would be. We can't all afford top dollar top specs. I think Motorola did a great job and huge accomplishment of making a foldable flip phone cheaper and available to more average consumers! That's a big win for many of us who are wanting to try a foldable phone but have not been able to afford one until now. Motorola in the US has this for $499 right now. There are carrier special deals at ad low as $199. This phone is a steal at $499 or less.

The screen is big and beautiful,the cameras take pretty good pics not as good as the iPhone but good enough. The only thing I would gripe about is I wish it had the same snapdragon as the Razr+. It's not a bad processor at all but I wish it was more compatible wit some higher end games like GTA definitive edition but cod mobile runs pretty good on max settings. It gets warm pretty quick but doesn't lag or nothing. But I do like this phone alot and the external screen is perfect for just the simple stuff I wanna check without flipping it open. My z flip broke right on the crease when I folded it closed after having it for about a month and a half, I sent it to Samsung and they pretty much told me I wouldn’t have mattered how or why the screen broke, I have to pay over three hundred dollars and needless too say, I did not take it well and i am disabled and on a fixed income and I can barely pay my bills let alone pay for something that I did not do. Another crappy part is when I told my carrier, xFinity about it, they said I didn’t have coverage, which is crazy because in about 5 years with them I have always had coverage. I can't really agree with buying an out-of-date Samsung instead, Motorola are better at providing support and updates for longer. I'm also, not even sure what it is you'd want to do on that external screen, other than a quick look at an SMS, the time, or similar, for which it seems fine. This review just doesn't seem to be balanced to me, I'm not about to go buy the Razr, but it does interest me and I don't think I'd ever buy a Samsung. What about the comparison of bloatware and heavy customisation on top of Android, Motorola typically wins hands-down here, although not sure about the last few years as I own a OnePlus these days.

The price isn't what is holding folding phones back. Even whne they get cheaper and offer flagship capabilities... It'll be popular for a few years, then will die down. The problem is the screens are plastic, and are more fragile. Until there's a way to scratch at a level 6 with deeper grooves at a level 7, I don't see them being a "long term" device.
@keithsawicz3371 Жыл бұрын
Except that the screen is protected 95% of the time, so the scratching shouldn't be much of an issue. But these will still not hold their value as well as a flagship slab phone because of the durability factor
@iandoolan8757 Жыл бұрын
I've spent a lot of time looking at display folding/flip phones and considering the amount of fiddling they're getting then I think they are quite durable as long as they aren't abused, deliberately tested with a finger nail or continuously flipped open with one hand etc. I've just bought a RAZR 40 (not +) at a bargain price of £460 to see how I get on with it. I also have an S23. If it goes wrong then it's not too much money to say " ah well I tried it" etc. I do tend to look after my phones.

The idea is great, however the phone degrades rapidly. Initially the phone connection was terrible. At first I thought it was a problem with my service provider verizon but switching the sim card back to my old device I discovered that the phone itself was to blame. At 1 month the crease where the phone folds created a white line in the middle of the screen. The "vegan leather" began to peel off. At 2 months the screen would randomly show only gray scale- no color. at 3 months the phone screen went entirely black- resetting the device did not correct it. At this point the phone was completely unusable. I contacted motorola for a refund and was told the window for a refund is only within 14 days of purchase. They advised me to send them the phone for repair and attempt to sell it myself on ebay... DO NOT BUY!

Why do these phone review channels say phones are $1,000+? Is that an outside-the-US thing? This phone is $150 as far as I can see in 2024.

They should add a button to fold and unfold the phone automatically so that it can be used with single hand.

That would add a lot of extra parts, complexity, and weight

Nice idea but, if you plan to use it don't drop it I've had this one 2 days when it slipped and hit the floor now one side only lights up and there is no cracks or marks anywhere on the screen or body of the phone. ????? be gentle with your new phone.

Ordered this phone from Motorola almost a week ago and they tell me it is still in there facility, my brother ordered a phone from Google on Monday he already got it. Has anyone else had a problem with Motorola taking a long time to send something?

the razr shape and chin are both important that give its own character and style, this ordinary general rectangle shape is just not Razr at all.

I thought the razr had pretty good customization except there werent many sound options.

I love it just the way it is . Makes no sense to have a big screen on the outside of a flip phone imo

Don't buy! I knew someone who works at a phone store. I also own this phone. It has a defect in the screen because you end up with a permanent white line. I spoke to my friend and apparently it's very common. Avoid if you can

I see no point spending $350 more for the same phone that has the same specs. I like the smaller screen when folded… I mean, who’s really going to routinely use a 3.6” screen? Just my opinion.

Idk what reviews want. When phones start cooking you breakfast, then it's "It can only scramble the eggs and and its already the year 20xx". Like what do more could you want?

I would buy just a diy foldable display, with an i2c or ips interface. Why isn’t that available.

does it really need to be said that a folding phone doesn't need another display on the outside? Is somebody trying to win a moneyburning competition or something?
