We learned what to do to get our audio files generated in Part 1, so without further adieu, here is Part 2: Programming!
Here is the process to get it done:
1. Fire up APX CPS
2. Power on, and connect your radio via cable
3. Tools - VA Converter Utility
4. Hit the Browse button to navigate/select the folder that contains your recorded audio files from Part 1 ( • Motorola Voice Announc... )
5. Select the files you want to convert (it's multi-select)
6. Select the final destination for the converted files by hitting the second browse button
7. Hit the Convert Button
8. Close the VA Converter Utility
9. Voice Announcement List - Add your files by hitting the + button to add records
In the file selector that pops up, select your audio file(s) to add - you can multi-select and it will add the appropriate number of records for the files you selected
10. Assign the files to things such as Zone or Channel by navigating to the appropriate area in CPS
11. Save your codeplug, and send it to the radio!
12. Profit
Some things to note, you can alter the priority of the VA - it's defaulted to Low. This means the VA has a lower priority over radio traffic. Lets say you power your radio on (after all the stuff is done), and there is no one talking. The radio will play the VA file as you have set. Should someone key up and talk, or there is already voice traffic when you power on, the radio will not play the VA file, giving priority to the radio traffic. You can change that to high and the radio will always play the VA file and then unmute to the radio traffic. Dealer's choice.
You can also use the default VA files, already included or make your own, and assign them to specific functions such as Scan On/Off, etc. That is done under the Voice Announcements Wide menu option in CPS.
