Do you program xts 5000 for trunking ? I’m looking for someone who knows how to program, the user I used on eBay will not answer me any longer and I need another radio done.

I just bought a pair from ebay, they are unprogrammed. I have the Astro 25 software and the cable. Do you have a video you can recommend for me to program them with untrunked, basic setup for emergency use? Or one you can recommend? It's simply a little more complicated than I thought. I just want them for my bugout bag in case SHTF so I can listen in on police/fire, etc, but not transmit, and for setting up the regular citizen bands for 2 way comms with the other radio. I'm not looking to use it as a HAM. Thanks

Hi there, unfortunately, I never shot any videos of that, but they program much the same as the XTS5k and 25k portables, but it takes a different mobile software. I'm sure there are videos of people who have done that.

So regarding the engraving : You do know that Motorola provides engraving services for these radios from the factory, right? The ADC AN 1500/2500's and the Phoenix XTS5000's that were floating around on EBay for a while had those factory engravings, if those were the ones you were referring to. A DMRO KVL3000 I picked up had similar font style of those 1500's, 2500's, and 5000's. As far as engravings go, the factory ones look quite nice, you can tell they were put into a jig and done with proper stencils and depth-checking or computer controlled. Coming from a government entity, we engraves a lot of our assets because : You can easily reprogram a device to strip it of its electronic asset information, and at that point short of an NCIC (which many resellers don't bother to do) check, you're paying the insurance deductible on the stolen goods, and calling it a wash... a deductible the tax payer has to foot the bill for :( . At least with physical engravings, the thief has to go through some effort to obscure the source (i.e. sanding down the engraving, or re-housing the subscriber) All that said : It does suck that it cuts into your margins on the product you refurbish (and you do an amazing job with it btw!), but I just wanted to give you some insight from the other side of the equation. Sadly, a lot of folks have an easy time rationalizing stealing from taxpayer funded organizations, so a lot of times govt organizations will take steps to lower the "curb appeal" of their assets, especially mission critical assets like LMR equipment. Glad to see you're making videos again, I missed them! :)
@snarlingrabiddog51508 жыл бұрын
I was unaware that Motorola offered a factory engraving program. I don't mind professional engraving nearly as much as the home-brew or in-factory cheap engraving, or worse than all; paint pens.. I know that serial numbers can be changed, but the Electronic Serial Number cannot be altered. Motorola doesn't seem to keep good enough records on ESN's and I think that they rely on the end-user to catalog them. The lowering of "curb appeal" does make sense and I can see why they do it. APX radio housings have a couple of places that are ideal for professional engraving. Thanks for the kind words!

Dan I got a question for ya! If you have a flashcode are you restricted to the features on that flashcode? For example if you have an xts5000 with a flashcode that does not include "conventional systems" does that mean that the radio cannot operate on conventional at all? Best regards! :)
@snarlingrabiddog51508 жыл бұрын
All XTS radios will work on analog conventional. You are restricted to feature sets (options flashed into the radio).
@Dave-ji1hv8 жыл бұрын
So this is an ok flashcode: Q806: ASTRO IMBE Digital Operation H14: Enhanced Digital ID Display Q498: Hardware Multikey Encryption w/ OTAR G996: Over the Air Provisioning H38: SmartZone Systems Operation Q947: APCO Packet Data Interface Q173: SmartZone Omnilink MultiZone Operation Q361: ASTRO 25 9600 Baud Trunking Q446: Fireground Voice/Channel Announcement What does the conventional systems flash do then? Thanks for your time :)
@snarlingrabiddog51508 жыл бұрын
They usually put that on units that are Model I or radios with a very basic flashcode. The one you sent me is fine and will do both as well as trunking and Digital.

If you ever get time or a chance could you program an xts5000 for the mandown function (under emergency in the mdc menu i believe). There aren't any good video's on the mandown function and almost no explanations. Thanks! :)

Hi Dave, I actually don't program radios for that function. I only do enough to sell them and work from templates I made. I don't really know how to do it. I'd like to see a video of that myself to see whats involved.

Not gonna lie Dan I am broke as a joke! haha :) When a good deal pops up I will definitely snag one! Out of the XTS line which do you prefer the most? The XTS3K's are going for cheap but require windows XP to prog. The 2500's are nice but a smudge less pricy than some 5k's and The 5k's some are REALLY out of my price range but program with newer windows (windows 7?). I like the 5k but the 2500 seems to be a bit better? What is your 2 cents?
@snarlingrabiddog51508 жыл бұрын
I sell both models and prefer the XTS5000's wayyyyy over a 2500. They are just designed better and have plug-in encryption as opposed to the 2500 having the enryption soldered on the keypad hardware board, they take Commander II mics (2500's only take the Commander GPS Mic), they are easier to service and they work in XTVA's. The 3000's require XP, but the 2500 and 5000 program on XP, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. Some people like the 2500 because it is a shorter radio. Both are very good, but I like 5000's the best :)

Hello my name is Renan, I'm Brazilian and I just bought a xts 4250 motorola which is nothing more than a 5000 xts, but this model 4250 is sold only here. I'm having a problem that came with the codeplug password, and with that I'm not able to program it and save a new codeplug. Can you help me with some solution? The person who sold the radio, also does not know the password of the codeplug. Thanks and look forward to a help if you can.
@snarlingrabiddog51507 жыл бұрын
You would have to have the radio reflashed with a new codeplug. There is no other solution that I know of.
@renanbrito87157 жыл бұрын
Thank you in the first place for responding so promptly to my doubt. Congratulations on your channel, I love watching your videos and the products you sell, it's a shame that sending to Brazil is not easy. As for my radio, I'm very sad because I did not know that I would have a codeplug password, I even removed the encryption card, to see if I can do anything, because I thought maybe this card may be interfering with the keys. Anyway, thank you very much for the attention, and as soon as I can, I would like to buy your products. Thank you

Your radios are very nice man, can you do a little video with all the tones from the XTS3000/5000 series? (the portable series) like, boot up, error, busy channel lockout, low battery alert, musical boot up, the extended mdc-1200 pre-tone, i mean, those are really nice radios and really expensive, they're digital and that's a huge + to this equipment. i was searching these sounds in my time and can't find them anywhere, besides i duplicated some of the tones in both sine wave and triangle wave (the square wave is just too harsh) but my point is, with a tone generator i copied almost every alert tone except the ones i just mentioned. Once again man, very nice and informative video, love your radios, especially the XTL5000!
@snarlingrabiddog51508 жыл бұрын
I think that I have videos I've already made that show some of those. There is no musical boot up on the XTS series radio, just a power-up beep. I've stopped listening to radio traffic years ago. I just mainly buy radios, fix them, do service work, sell them, etc. Programming them for the tones really isn't my forte. I use cell phones to communicate. There are some excellent videos on KZbin that show tones that are much better than I can make. I used to know how to do channel announcement on the 5k and 25k but found it to be a pain to do. It sounds like you know quite a bit about radios. Glad you like the videos and radios! :) Thanks for the kind words!
@BioCybergoth8 жыл бұрын
i was a radio amateur in my time and i love the PRO series, i recently sell my last radio, a VHF PRO5150 with musical boot programmed, a very nice detail to get distance from everybody else, even with the special signalling feature, the quick call system, i was never been able to use that calling data on purpose, i tried to duplicate the musical boot up but the only ones i have was the boring default beep that sound twice. the thing is, i wasn't sure if the XTS or XTL have the musical boot that i mentioned from the PRO series, this ones are the ASTRO or the MOTOTRBO? i don't know, not much tech info of these radios anywhere else over the internet, except from the info videos (yours and many others). and your voice actually sounds with a "metallic" key or it's just me? if my pro were from the MOTOTRBO or ASTRO series with digital TX, i will never sell it
@snarlingrabiddog51508 жыл бұрын
The Mototrbo's have a musical power-up thing going on. One thing that I suppose that you could do was to program your main channel on an XTS with a musical file and have it always power up to that channel. The only issue is that every time that you go to that channel, you'd hear the music. I'm not sure what you mean about my voice sounding like a metallic key. I really don't like the Mototrbo series radios, but it's just that they aren't easy to service and not built as well as the XTS or APX series. There are a lot of good radio videos on KZbin these days. When I started on KZbin, I think there were two that I found. I'm always glad to see others making videos on radios.
@BioCybergoth8 жыл бұрын
Sorry, my bad, i forgot to mention it clear, when you speak on your radios using the digital TX, the voice sound with that metallic key, making it more "electronical" than natural, overall, i really like how the voice sound in digital mode, in analog is just lame and faulty, less quality featured and somewhat difficult to "understand" when not using the ICAO fonetic code (alpha, bravo, charlie = ABC as First, Second, Third = 1, 2, 3) aside from the numeric codes and the Q code used by radio amateurs as well as the ICAO one. Can i request a sample of the actual musical boot if possible? that would be great man, i was looking for it everywhere with no luck. Thanks again for your time, i will send you my "copies" versions of the mentioned radio tones, all in the "motorola type" with every version of them. Sine, Square and Triangular Waveform, my samples of the MDC-1200 and the recovered dual pre-tone of the MDC-1200 data burst (a normal 0068 ID from a EM-450, a weird "MDC CALL 01" from a PRO5100 and a call from 0D07 from a GM-300 ¿rapidcall?/quickcall/call alert burst in good shape, all from different VHF frequencies recorded in my time with the line out from my GM-300, all very close to the repeater at the moment of capture, probably the most quality ones that i ever have. LINK: www.mediafire.com/?e7u7bc7q1vu60b3 +snarlingrabiddog5150
@snarlingrabiddog51508 жыл бұрын
With the XTS series radios, you would need a sample (I don't have one) and you have to create it. It is a VERY tedious process that requires a converter to turn it into a Moto-file and compression has to be done. I used the Audacity free program. If you search on my channel for channel announcement, you'll see how it's done. I have a link in one of the two or three videos to another fella who did a better review. I don't think that MDC is alterable to tone as channel announcement on these radios are only for zones and channels; possibly just for channels.

Nice! Looks better! The date code on batteries is as follows: xxxx EX. 1325 It is the year 13 and the 25th week. So 1352 is the 52nd week of 2013. Usually the sellers that only have 1 picture of their radio are usually the ones hiding something. I also avoid the sellers that use "stock" photo's or take a picture of their best looking radio when they have 20 in stock and sell you a radio that is missing 3 buttons, a knob, and 15 pixels on the screen. Or even better in the description they put "Working when pulled from environment. Buyer pays for shipping" Speaking of which do you still have commander II mics? Take care!

I do have the Commander II mics and also the Commander GPS mics available :)
@Dave-ji1hv8 жыл бұрын
They really are great mics! I got a question for you. If you have a commander II mic on an xts5000 and on the mic you set the channel to 8 obviously the radio goes to 8 but what if you change the channel on the radio. Does the mic completely override the radio? Best regards :)
