July 24, 2023 --- Hi. I own a 2008 Mercedes E350 V6. The fuel pump is no good. I went to my mechanic and he said that the pump cannot be replaced by itself. I have to buy the pump and the tank. That increases the price of the job. The parts alone are $2500. But I and my brother-in-law watched your video above. It seems like you are working on an E-350 but you are able to replace the fuel pump with another fuel pump. You are not dealing with the tank. Why is the Mercedes dealer and my mechanic telling me I have to buy the tank and the pump. Thank you for your help

Depends on your model of car, there are 2 of each one a PZEV spec and one that NON PZEV spec. Essentially it’s just a California thing where if the car is a cali spec then the whole emissions is sealed leading to the fuel pump being sealed with the tank which is why you need to replace the whole thing

Which part of this system, if broken, will cause the vehicle to 'run out of fuel' with half tank remaining? Would that indicate the fuel from left chamber is not being delivered to the right side?

This seems to be a well hidden secret with this issue! I'm having this problem right now and cant find the answer anywhere online! It would be wonderful for someone to let us know!! I will figure it out and when I do I will post it for everyone to see!

@Stephan Bayer Are you guys sure it's not the return pipe? When you replaced the fuel pump did it come with NEW return hoses? From what I can gather the pipes are liable to fail causing a loss of pressure. If the fuel pump is replaced but there STILL no fuel in the sender unit side (left hand side) then its not the fault of the sender unit but a lack of fuel going to it. I.e. the pipes aren't feeding it. This video shows NEW pipes so maybe that's whats needed to fix this issue?

@@kmoe786 This is a well known problem with Mercs and a lot of other cars with a saddle tank.The fuel is constantly circulated by the pump and returns to the non - pump side of the tank,outgoing fuel from the pump side runs through a venturi which (should) create a depression and draw fuel from the other side. Over time,as the fuel system gunks up,this stops working. I ran a load of fuel system cleaner through my C180 and it ran down to the fuel light,twice,then back to business as usual. A waste of £20 but it proved the point and,no,I have not fixed it,too much hassle.

HI I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A SECOND HAND W221 2007 S550 AND TOOK IT TO BE SERVICED CHANGES BATTERY OILS, AND SERVICED. AFER DRIVING FIRST TRIP. NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE STARTS GOING DOWN AND THE CAR SWITCH OFF. THEN AFTER STRIPPING FIRST TIME AND OFF THEN ON AGAIN IT WORKED, BUT FOR a SHORT TIME. UNTIL I PARKED AGAIN. THEN WHENEVER I START IT CRANCKED BUT THE FUEL STAYED DOQWN.. I TRIED to SHAKE THE CAR IT MOVED UP THEN GOES DOWN AGAIN... IT STILL NOT STARTING. , THE CRANKED BUT NOT STARTING. WHILE WAITING TO take IT TO THE SERVICE SHOP AGAIN, I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF THERE IS SOMETHING I CAN CHECK TO START IT AT LEAST TO DRIVE IT TO THE MECHANIC.

I have an 07 E350 150k+... $2000 after market tank and full pump... PZEV... They designed a piece of garbage and charge a fortune when it fails.... So many missed the warranty by 2-10k miles....

HELLO SIR , I HAVE ONE C320 EMC 2004 LEFT HAND DRIVE CAR ITS HAVE A FUEL GAUGE PROBLEM. SOME TIME GAUGE IS OK SOME ITS FELL DOWN THEN I CHECK IF DISCONNECT THE FUEL PUMP SOCKET FROM TANK GAUGE FELL DOWNIF CONNECT ITS WILL SHOW 3/4. I SUSPECT THE FLOAT PROBLEM. CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE EXACT PROBLEM &HOW MANY FLOAT IS USING THIS MODEL THANK YOU
