On this episode we present a new Roadkill project car: the Crop Duster! It’s a 1970 Plymouth Duster that Freiburger forgot that he owned-a result of multiple trades with a buddy, and at least 5 years of neglect in the dirt of a grape farm. Once he was reminded of the car, and with a 440 Mopar big-block sitting on the shop floor (salvaged from the General Mayhem ’68 Charger), it was evident what needed to happen. Freiburger and Finnegan headed up to the farm run by Steve Dulcich, editor of Engine Masters magazine, to drag the Duster out of its moss-covered indignity and attempted to get the 440 in the car and running, driving, and doing smoky burnouts within five days. Along the way, the trio did engine upgrades, butchered some headers, built a homemade driveshaft, cobbled together a used exhaust system, did some halfhearted bodywork, and executed other mechanical feats the likes of which you’ve come to expect from Roadkill. Then it was off to the chassis dyno and the drag strip. Hate to break it to you, but the fail in this episode is minimal! Thanks for support from MSD Performance and from Optima, the new Official Battery of Roadkill! Make sure to check out the new Roadkill.com.

Unless you're local mechanic has a special degree in hackery, then no. This video gives some information they would need for the swap, but by no means a how to guide. Don't worry you only need about a grand worth of tools to do what these guys do :) It's not a cheap hobby! But tools last a life time and you can start off with more basic stuff and build your kit as you go. And if you get a job with no girlfriend or kids you actually will have plenty of money to work on cars! Really you would. Just learn from Freiburger, he lost that nicely orange painted duster for an engagement ring.

sirgallium I know its not a cheap hobby but its really worth it. My school has a program that lets you fix a cobra so that the school can later auction it. I just love to get my hands dirty and feel proud of my work when I look back to what I fixed. I was thinking of buying a 80s datsun 280 and restore it, but sadly I dont have the money :/

+duhjuh its most likely proprietary to Motor Trend. Actually a lot of the music they play in the episodes sounds extremely familiar to music you would here in the mainstream just that they changed the notes to make it their own. TV shows have been known to do this as it brings back memories of familiarity of the subconscious. Sounds a bit far fetched I know but studies have been done.

in the 80's me and my cousin drove a Duster 360, Man you talk about fun, we had to put in a clutch system.. the old one was shot. But back then, we did not have a alignment tool. so we did as good as we could. we ended up having all forward gears, but no reverse, But it was fast, we smoked the tires so many times, raced everyone who was willing. and it was TONS of FUN!!!!! And banging on headers, yup, I did that too, when installing headers in a 1978 Camaro!!!!

Aaron B Lol! yeah that..and you really never see old Mopars in a "in progress" street look. They're either way far gone or perfect. The Duster and Mayhem are right up my alley. I've always kinda had a soft spot for Dodge/Chrysler stuff,my first car was a 78 Cordoba then a few yrs later I had a 64 short bed sweptline.

When I watched this before really restoring my 1978 Trans-Am I thought this was only hard because they normally choose towards a wreck condition. My 78 is in really good shape and just doing the seat belts was an all day thing. Massive respect to these guys for doing anything with the engine or transmission.
