Boosting engines for cheap: "here we have this thousand dollar carburetor on top of this multi thousands blower...."
@OlavAlexanderMjelde
@OlavAlexanderMjelde 3 жыл бұрын
Not forgetting the team of engine builders and tuners, dyno time :P But of course when they say "for cheap", it means you can of course try to find used parts also.. And "for cheap" I guess if you compare to what a prebuilt engine would cost, its still cheap, espeically if you have that sort of engine already.

You can get a blower kit for an LS motor with a 6/71 and every piece you need to swap it for $4000. In the world of race cars any more, thats cheap. You could turbo it cheaper, but blowers are cool.

Nice to have a video for free. I can’t afford another subscription TV service. Dulcich was right, back in the 70’s cost was the biggest limiting factor. One they were plentiful the price came down or wages caught up and technology came along to maximize a blown motors potential.

Back in the 70s . I ran a paxton super charger on a 350 chevy . Had to make my own mounting kit .Used a blow through bonnet at first .Solid floats in a holly carburetor . The stock ones collapsed under psi . Fought the fuel psi to boost psi . Finally got my hands on a full carb enclosure .Which equalize the psi of the inside and out side psi of the carb . Changed the pump springs to get 12 psi of boost out of the pump . The 55 chevy pickup ran good after many hours of work . But I did win the battle . I think you can see why in the early days they were not in use very often .

I’ve never heard anyone trash the 5.3 for its bore size. I’m not saying there’s any comparison but that’s always been the argument against the 305 (or bore to stroke ratio but either way...) If you’re starting from scratch by all means go with a 6.0 or 350 but I’m all for doing something cool with what you have.

Boosting is definitely not cheap for the average person. You'll spend thousands of dollars buying a decent turbo or supercharger. But I will say, boosting is the way to go. I personally prefer turbohargers over superchargers. YES, there's a bit of a lag with turbo's. But there's nothing like getting that awesome sound of a turbocharger and feeling the acceleration when your turbo spools up. Awesome content guys, very cool.

Honestly, Chinese turbos (ESPECIALLY cheap ones) are just so inconsistent. One manufacturer can have a wide range of quality control and part-to-part variance. You’re pretty much just gambling on a weather you get a grenade or not. But if you really don’t care about your engines health or reliability, then they’ll do the job. But I wouldn’t bet my life on one. And I do understand that there are some decent Chinese turbos, but they still don’t have the same quality as a more thoroughly tested more scrutinized design.

superchargers are alway more expensive than turbo, always. Yes, Turbos are not bolt-on and are far more work, so there is a trade-off in cost versus effort. If you don't have the skill to put into the effort, higher upfront costs are for you. Those 4.8L and 5.3L LS motors are great under forced induction or NA with cam/heads/long tube exhaust and will put down respectable power for their displacement. A 5.3L on turbo is just a thing of beauty, though...a Gen IV bottom end will handle some serious shenanigans under boost and live to talk about it.

As Rolls Royce discovered on the Merlin.......when a blower sucks through a carb, it mixes and vaporizes the fuel effectively. Head to head with the sophisticated german mechanical fuel injection equivalent engines in the Bf109, they were a dead heat for making power.
@nerd1000ify
@nerd1000ify 2 жыл бұрын
The Germans actually needed a lot more displacement to match the Merlin: The DB605 displaced 35L to the Merlin's 27L. Despite.this the 605 was lighter due to more extensive use of light alloys. The Allies had the benefit of superior fuel. For much of the war most German aircraft were running on 87 octane 'B4' fuel, while the Allied standard was 100 octane. So the Merlin was able to run a lot more boost.

Can you guys do a video explaining the difference between make a Vortec supercharger and a regular supercharger. I've got a 93 Camaro. It was all blue printed in rebuilt. We could only find supercharger wise back in the day the vortex. Now when you look at one of these they look just like a turbo. Honestly they sound way different to. My Camaros been said it sounds like a jet plane coming. I mean I'm still getting some booze not all the Boost I want I'd rather have 25 or 30 lb of boost this thing puts out 8. I'm cranking over 750 horsepower out of this Camaro. I just was curious I mean why do they look so much like a turbo. I know when forces are in and the other runs off exhaust that's the difference but I was just wondering if you guys could do video explaining the difference. I'd love to put a superchargers on that on the demons and stuff I know that I'd be over 1200 to 1300 horsepower. But I don't think they make them for the LT1. I'm honestly considering pulling this engine out and putting a big block in it with a big huge supercharger on it. Maybe later this year that's what I'll do. But could you explain why they are so different these two kinds of superchargers the Vortech and the regular supercharger

They don't want to really tell you the secrets but it's the muffler bearings that's making all this power

The problem was turbo technology was expensive back with we were in high school and college...and with dumping cheap china parts on the market they closed a lot of domestic turbo production. From what I wrench on most of them do not last and are junk leaking oil in a short period of time. A GOOD turbo cost $$. Just to mess around have weekend fun cant beat it.

Procharger is really pushing that F1A. A basic P1 or D1 would have easily made those numbers with no belt slip. That 5.4 step up ratio is why they had belt slip issues.

I am surprised as to the cost of the LS3 engine, my carburator days don't allow me to purchase a new style engine because of all the electronics required to run the total set up is hugh.
