I love Straight 8's. When they are tuned and running good, you can put a nickel on the air cleaner and it will not move. Packard's are awesome cars so I would go with the Packard Straight 8!

I renovated one AMC 304 and put it in jeep , ages ago , guess 1993. Had one extra engine aswell , axial bearing was wasted ,it is in the middle of the egine 3 mm clearance is wrong 😂 I preferre chbb aswll ,my latest build is a talldeck block with a 3.76 crank , it gives long nice rods , and god revs

California(In their infinite wisdom) makes it too painful with labor, environmental and tax regulations for a shop to operate. So the either close down or move out of state.

The issue is also that wages overall hasn't followed with inflation, so people don't have money to spend, or they want to make more wetter they are employed or running the business. If they are good enough then they'll cater those who have money and continue to stay in business. What's sad is to see all the big brand names getting bought up by venture capitalists and sucked dry, some Chinese knockoffs are of higher quality than the original.

Only way to make money as a machinist is own the shop. Note most engine guys don’t do it for the money.
