motor oil is man's hand lotion but there's nothing worse than being all cut up trying to install something so when possible gloves are a man's best friend when installing metal or anything that is going to be harmful to the skin ya definitely want something covering yur hand n arms n possibly yur eyes when using fiberglass wrapping on yur headers I haven't used the nice golden color wrapping stuff yet so idk what it'd be like to work with

It wheel hops because you are under sprung for the amount of torque you are hitting the tires with. If you're going to run a soft spring, then you need a great shock to control it like a double adjustable Viking.

Get some no hop bars . They go between the upper link and rear-end. They change the angle of the pinion . You will need longer springs.

How would you handle cars that are sprung TOO tight and wheel hop? (Viper)? I have heard these are some of the highest forces that can hit a car, but no clue how one manages...back off?
@CarsandCats
@CarsandCats 9 күн бұрын
@@Chemist9662 Could be control arm/bushing deflection or bad suspension geometry. I assume you are still IRS and those are NEVER great for drag racing. In that case, I would recommend a slipper clutch so that you never hit the tires too hard at launch.

the former owner was a well grounded person .for a chevelle 4 link suspension ,you need the lower control arm with a 1* up going forward .with a 4 speed manual the pinion angle should be 4* down .install the biggest diameter GM station wagon rear spring ,cut them to achieve desired center of gravity .adjustable race shocks help also

Yrs back I did those springs, cheap KYBs night n day diff. LAter put SSM lowers boxed uppers and Edelbrock traction bars on both side 0 wheelhop hooked HARD and goes straight no stepping out Tying the tops of the rear spring pockets together really helps also. Takes 100 percent of twist out of the rear chassis

My first car I ever bought when I was 15 and able to have a job was a '75 El Camino. It had a 400 small block and a turbo 400. First motor I ever rebuilt, I learned the hard way a 400 is completely different to all the other small blocks. It was a mix of 70/80's drag style with air shocks pumped all the way up in the back, big fat reverse offset Cragars in the back and little skinnies in the front all painted in low rider graphics. It even had a tonneau cover. For $500 I thought it was a steal. I drove it Dukes of Hazard style every chance I got. Those 4th gen Elco's aren't the best looking for sure but they do have a soft spot in my heart.

That thing was pretty fast “ for a small block “

For my 72 Chevelle (same 4 link rear end) when I rebuilt the rear end I got that Edlebrock top bushing relocator. It basically puts the upper pumpkin bushings a few inches higher giving it a bigger lever. I also got those PST bushings all around which were the urethane ones impregnated with graphite(so they don't squeak). Then I also harvested the front bars off a 72 SS(aftermarket places sell a version of them). The ones that tie the two front knuckles together, taking the 4 link and kind of tieing the 'box' together. that thing handled like it was on rails. And yeah, no wheel hop.

Ironically, it was one of Hot Rod Magazine's "100 tech tips" or whatever articles to explained to me the value of creating a head carrying handle out of an ax handle or something else to bolt to the rocker arm studs. I tend to break the fasteners loose, but keep them in so that the head can be broken loose but the fasteners are still in to keep the head from falling off (rotating the block so the deck is level with the floor also helps, people like to argue the dowels will keep the head from sliding but of course there's plenty of videos where it does not). then undo the fasteners when the head is loose from the deck, give your heads a convenient carrying handle, and avoid having to replace a cracked head.

I love car. I had a 73 SS El-Camino back in the day and loved it. You need to do more of these mid-late 70's Muscle cars, Since the CONvid "outbreak" the hottest project/builds have been mid-late 70's Muscle Cars, They are cheap to buy, they made millions upon millions of them so both the used and NOS parts are still plentiful and since they have aged out the Smog Regs everywhere but Commiefornia you can build them the way you want to. Go find a 73-77 Nova, Malibu, Cougar/Thunderbird or a Fury/Magnum.

I own that same Elco with the same engine. In a lot better shape though. It was my uncle's Elco and I bought it from his daughter after he died. I put a new pair of air shocks on the rear. The engine was rebuilt and I have replaced the control arm bushings as well and replaced whatever else the car needed, like the radiator, etc. Still working on things like getting the heater fan working, and stuff like that. I love the car and I named it, "Rosa." Ha! The 73 is the biggest El Camino ever built. Five inches longer and one inch wider that the rest. Mine has an automatic hydromatic transmission with three on the tree and a bench seat which I prefer. I love the car and I will never sell it, even though people keep telling me they want to buy it.
