One of my best friends in high school got her mom's old SC 400 when she turned 16, this was in 2002. It was that dark red color. Needless to say we were all very jealous and we took her car everywhere. I had a 98 Corolla, a great car, but no SC 400. That thing was awesome. Good memories.

most all manufactures cared about the quality of their product vs cheap back in the 90s...I feel old but I am not (I am 36) yet I can see the trend where real quality is not as much of a priority. Hopefully that trend will shift back toward quality in the near future - as all trends tend to ebb and flow

Purchased my 94 SC400 2 months ago for $2,000 with relatively low miles (139,000). I just drove it 10 hrs straight 600+ miles form southern to northern California to get to school with no issues. The car is incredible and has stood the test of time, I will defiantly be manual swapping it as it very much needs it to take advantage of the torque of the 1uz-fe motor under the hood. The make and model is a hidden gem in the jdm car enthusiast community.

I bought one of these a year ago, because it was in good condition, the price was right, and I had secretly wanted one since they came out, in 1991. I was expecting it to be not much more than an, "old beater," though, because let's face it, 30 years is a long time for a car to be on the road. After a year of ownership, I am delighted to say - still runs like it's new - easy to work on - parts are not stupid expensive - shows no sign of giving up any time in the next 30 years - exceeds my expectations for top speed (haha) - meets my expectations for 0-60 (dedicated sports cars will kill it outright, but many of the smaller BMWs, Mercs, and even new Lexuses will go away salty) - exceeds my expectations for luxury and generally making me feel like a king behind the wheel Big surprises: - many people don't even know what it is, because they are SUPER rare in my area - all they see is: long, low, and, LEXUS - I keep it shined up, and I have nice wheels on it, so everyone *thinks* I am stinkin' rich. The jealousy from the neighbours was so thick you could taste it in the air. hahaha - even cops do this: a traffic cop said aloud as I rolled up to him, "Wow, we got a nice one here!" - the girls at work ABSOLUTELY don't know cars, so yeah, this vehicle gets plenty of, "That's a niiiiiiiice car!" This car is perfect for me. When I want to drive hard, it is capable *enough*. But, for the majority of the time, when I just want to cruise in luxury mode and relax and enjoy life, this car has mountains and mountains of goodness to it. And, I have proven to myself for this past year, that you can daily one of these, relatively painlessly...although it is kind of thirsty, being a V8 and all. Toyota knocked it out of the freaking PARK with this car. You haters can have this splendid view of my outstretched, middle finger.

The glory days of Japanese car design; Lexus SC coupes, Acura NSX, Nissan 300ZX, Toyota Supra (A80 '92 on), Mazda RX-7 (FD '92 on), Mitsubishi 3000GT. Even the Lexus ES 300 from '92-'96 looks comparatively good today. With the exception of MAZDA, all the above car makers pretty much abandoned true car design.

For the most part, yes. Lexus/Toyota had lost their way for a bit by focusing purely on appliances for Toyota, and soccer mom crossovers for Lexus... But Toyota has been making a bit of an effort lately at least, first with the exceptional (though unattainable) LFA. Then the followup great (though slightly underpowered) Toyota GT86. And now, the new LC500 is bringing Sexy back to Lexus. Reminds me of this car's debut when I was a kid. Similarly striking and gorgeous. Hoping the upcoming Supra will be good.

My good friend and neighbor still has his 91, bought used in 98. It's still damned quick and everything works, right down to the a/c.That's right, a real R12 unit. It just got it's 3rd timing belt and tune up, at 274k last yr. The drivetrain has never been apart. Granted, this is his summer car, and as a result, it still wears it's original black factory paint. He has rebuilt the suspension, and several brake jobs have been done, but everything else is factory original. The interior has held up great as well. The funny thing is, he brags that he has not had to replace 1 single bulb on the car.. A very good car in my book!

I'm a newly proud owner of a 98 SC 400 with now 58k miles that's all original and everything works! I get complements and looks when I drive on the weekends. The car can still do 100 + when I want to open it up, and it's a smooth effortless surge of power to highway speeds! I was looking at Porches, BMW 850 coups, and SL/CL but none of them had low miles or were in overall good condition like the SC I bought. The design also sold me because the others looked like 90's cars and the SC was still a fresh looking design.

Used to own a 1992 SC300, 5 speed manual. I think that was my favorite car I ever owned, man was it a looker, pearl white on that very light tan, almost off white/brown leather interior. Also the best built car I ever owned, especially the quality/shine of that pearl white paint. Even today if I look real close at new "pearl white" Mercedes, Lexus, Cadillacs, etc the paint wasn't as deep, as free of orange peel, etc those new cars have an inferior paint job compared to the 1992 Lexus.

Not sure about the metallic paints, but I know the black paint they would color sand and compound buff in the final stage for zero orange peel and the richest shine you could get on a mass produced car. Lexus was serious back then.

My Dad bought one of these, used, in early 1994. It was practically new - only had like 25K miles on it. He sold it 10 years later, with over 300K miles on it. Toyota reliability, but luxurious and sporty at the same time. Really a great car!

Probably the best-looking vehicle Lexus has ever come out with, and MUCH better than the hideous redesigned SC. My parents had one of these in the mid-90's (I forget the year exactly, 1994 or 1996) for a couple of years, and yes, it was pretty awesome. No reliability issues at all. The V8 was smooth as hell and you felt no vibrations at idle, wondering whether it was on. It was also really fast on the highway if you wanted to pass. Faults: the steering was overboosted, the ride was a little stiff, and the trunk was really small. The door didn't open very wide either, it was an unusual design. Not the roomiest for tall people either but not too bad. Anyway, you really felt like it was a high quality, well-made vehicle when you were in it.

I cherished it, kept it up and drove it everywhere for 15 years, only finally letting it go for cheap money to a wifes coworker because we had too many cars. That was without a doubt one of the finest cars ever made, period. The amount of engineering, workmanship, and artistic design that went into that car has never truly been equaled since then, and never will. If youve never driven one, do yourself a favor and check them out, really take a day to drive an experience them. The only reason why I dont lust after one anymore is because I played that game for 15 years and I ate my fill.

This is car is just as cool as the supra, it's just a different skin. Best part is you can get the same engine for way less than you'll pay for a Supra today. Although, I'm not sure if it was the sc400 or the 300 that had the J2Z engine. If you can find one with a standard you're in for a treat, very fun to drive.

Please keep these retro reviews coming. I have a 92 Dodge Stealth (which I love) but I've been looking for a "newer" car but quite frankly I keep coming back to considering mint cars from the late 80s through the 90s. I can care less about computer controlled everything, bluetooth, fuel efficiency, today's concept of futuristic styling, etc. Maybe that stuff matters to some people but for me I just see lots of potential in a well taken care of, less common, more driver centered higher end car from the 90s that could be bought for around the same price or less than a current generic economy ride.

Mine had 250K trouble-free miles on it when I sold it. Only thing I ever replaced was the power steering pump. Took me less than an hour to replace and was about $175 from my local auto parts store. That SC400 was a wonderful grand tourer, but I completely stopped driving it once I bought my new 2002 IS300 5-spd. It was like going from a tank to a go-kart. The IS fun-factor is off the charts and it has turned out to be as reliable as the SC400 was. She's at 300K and going strong. Thank goodness, since there are no new Lexus cars I desire. Can't even get a manual trans in any of 'em. A new Mazda MX-5 might be next in line for me.

While this design was ahead of it's time and tastefully done, Lexus really hit it out of the park with the GS (S160). One of the most beautiful Lexus vehicles ever made. Of course extremely reliable as well.

​@@BedtimeBlasphemy That's actually not true. The T-Bird was ALOT less expensive & even though only V6 powered was only slightly slower, both in acceleration and in top speed. It also handled just as well if not better. A better comparison would be the similarly DOHC V8 powered Lincoln Mark VIII, which was quicker and also braked better. Like the SC they're also extremely reliable and handsome cars as well. I love Lexus SC's by the way but get off your high horse.

Toasters are uncomplicated appliances with heating elements, a thermostat, switches, and plugs and cords. Most of the time when they malfunction, they just haven’t been cleaned thoroughly enough. Of course the heating elements can burn out after time, and plugs, cords, and switches get faulty, but if you maintain your toaster as suggested below, the toaster should give you years of service before the electrical parts wear out. If you get a shock when you touch the toaster, it’s not grounded. Get a replacement from the store or take it to a professional for repairs. What to do when your toast won’t stay down The latch that locks the carriage in place may be blocked by crumbs. To clean them out, you need a screwdriver, canned air or a handheld pump, and lubricant, which you can get at an appliance service center. Now follow these steps: Unplug the toaster. Remove the carriage lever and unscrew the front cover. When the cover is off, blow any crumbs from the latch assembly. Test the latch to make sure it moves up and down easily. If it still sticks, apply a little lubricant. Look at the heating coils too to see whether all the crumbs have been removed. If not, blow them out with the forced air. After cleaning and lubricating the toaster, put the cover back, plug it in, and fix yourself some toast. If the toast still won’t go up or down, buy yourself a new toaster. What to do when the toast won’t pop up Your toaster’s thermostat may be set incorrectly. To reset it, follow these steps: Unplug the toaster. Take off the carriage lever and front cover and look for a knob, screw, or nut located near the toast light-to-dark control on the outside of most toasters. Turn the knob, screw, or switch to the left, as on the lighter-control position. Replace the cover, plug in the toaster, and test it by toasting a piece of bread. If the toast still burns, then the thermostat has to be reset. This is controlled either by a dial or lever usually on the front of the toaster. You can reset the thermostat. Here’s how. If you turn a dial to make the toast light-to-dark, take the dial knob off. Readjust the screw behind it, turning it toward “lighter” on the toaster - or darker if the bread won’t toast. You’ll probably have to turn the screw only slightly, not a full turn. Put the knob back on and test the toaster with a slice of bread. If the toast is still dark, then adjust the screw a little again. If your toaster has a lever controlling light and dark, bend it slightly up or down. For instance if you want your toast lighter, and the display for lighter is at the top of the lever channel, then you will bend the lever up. What if your toast won’t stay down and the toaster buzzes? This usually happens because the toaster hasn’t cooled off. You can correct this problem by setting the control to dark or just depressing the lever again. If waiting or resetting the control doesn’t work, then the solenoid switch needs to be replaced, a moderately difficult repair. Call for a service estimate and if it’s too high, buy a new toaster

Tom Jones +Leslie Marufu 1) Spray your toilet with the all-purpose cleaner from top to bottom covering everything from the tank, flusher, hinges, both sides of the lid and seat, rim, exterior bowl and base. Just douse it with product, don’t be shy. Let it sit for a minute to start to break down the dirt. 2) Add the toilet bowl cleaner into the bowl. You’ll notice that toilet bowl cleaners have an angled spout - this is designed specifically to make the application of the product under the rim easier for you. Gently glide the nozzle around the inner rim of the bowl and squirt out the product in a steady, even flow. 3) Begin wiping the toilet bowl clean, literally re-tracing your steps from step 1.Start wiping the tank cover, flusher, tank, change paper towel. Get into the hinges (more on this later), wipe the lid top, flip it up and wipe the lid bottom, change paper towel. Wipe the seat top, flip it up and wipe the seat bottom, change paper towel. Wipe the top of the rim and then get the exterior bowl, sides and base. Get into those little crevices! You can always clean the floor and area behind the toilet with a mop as opposed to doing it by hand, either way, it needs to be done. 4) Take your cleaning toothbrush and spray it with a little bit of all-purpose cleaner. Use it to get into those hinges and brush out any build up (if you haven’t cleaned your hinges in a while, you’ll understand the value of this tip). 5) With your toilet bowl brush in hand, start to scrub under the rim (don’t do it too vigorously or else you’ll get backsplash) and work your way entirely around it (lots of build up lives here). Then, spiral the brush around the inside of the bowl, starting at the top and swirling it around until it gets to the waterline. Continue swirling until you get to the chute and pump the brush in and out of the chute a few times to clean it as well. 6) DONE!! Hold the brush in the toilet and flush. Let the water clean the brush off so you don’t have to. To allow the brush to drip-dry, hold it on the rim and put the seat down. Let the brush sit for a few minutes and then replace it dry into the brush container (if it is wet and it goes back in, you get nasty build up) say goodbye to those dreaded poop stains
