God damn. A GMC Jimmy that had contemporary WRX-like acceleration numbers back in the early 90s... I remember when these things hit the streets and wiped the smarmy smirk off of many Corvette/Z28/Trans Am/5.0/Ricer/Euro sports-car owner's faces. It goes to show what GM engineers could achieve when the bean-counters loosened their leash a little.

What top speed has the typhoon? 348tb is 170mph. I dont believe the typhoon is faster. Also the acceleration is 5.5 0-60 from the 348tb and i am sure it is faster/better accelerating in a rolling start compared to the typhoon. Just a little awd advantage. Note: I love Typhoons

My uncle has one of these; he had a Syclone and wanted more space so traded for the Typhoon a year later - last time I saw it, it was in a heated garage on jack stands to keep the tires off the ground. This seems to be a conversation that goes on at every TV and movie company in existence. | Low-level employee: "Hey, look at all these old episodes in this closet! We should put these online or something! People would LOVE this old stuff!!" | Manager: "I know you're young and energetic, but that's not how things work around here. Consumers don't want to watch old stuff. It's just that simple. Just throw them away." | Employee: "But...but....all this valuable content?? My friends ask me about stuff like this all the time!! Why can't we just put them on KZbin or something? It's FREE!" | Manager: "Do you ever look at the ratings for TV shows? Consumers want REALITY shows, crime dramas, and to see untalented singers get mocked for having no talent. Nobody wants to see 30-year-old shows about cars." | Employee: "But...but...." | Manager: "Ok whatever. I'm going to meet a couple of our sponsors for a round of golf this afternoon. Do whatever you want with those old tapes, but I want them out of this closet by the end of the day. We have some environmental monitoring equipment to install in here before the end of the month." | 5 hours later......manager returns from golf outing. | Employee: "You'll never believe this!! I just uploaded 20 of these old episodes to KZbin, and they've already gone viral. We have over 100,000 views already!!" | Manager: "What's a U-Tube?"

Why is the audio so distorted? Seems like it was recorded way too loud and overloaded the system. Surely that could have been avoided in the transfer, right?

@@jaysplace01 Other retro Motorweek videos have audio that's a lot more clear when the content is as old. This one is saturated af, they probably artificially raised the volume of the video before uploading it because John surely didn't had the mic two inches away from his mouth.

I had a good laugh one day. Some guy tried to say these had the same turbo engine that was in the Buick GN's and GNX's. Sorry to burst his bubble and for anyone else. The Buick's has a 3.8L turbo ( same for the 90's Turbo T/A ) and the GMC had a 4.3L turbo. Not the same beast.

I've met a few owners, one or two that have some non-running lawn ornaments and one or two that have showroom vehicles. I've offered, they've denied. This video sparked my interest and I've been on Craigslist as well, and the idea has my interest piqued, but my MSM and Conquest are demanding too much moneyr right now, LOL!

David Adams trust me you dont want it...that 4.3 sounds like crap and eats gas...what you want is a v8 s10 or jimmy...you could even buy a basket case s10 and have it built or do it yourself...a 400 hp small block in that light truck will give you 18 mpg
@DriftTaxi
@DriftTaxi 9 жыл бұрын
phil tripe I see where you're coming from and I agree on some points. However, sometimes it's about the legacy or second-type of cool (as Nutnfancy would say) that a car exudes. It's not just about how to be faster or make more power. My MSM is cooler than just turboing an NB Miata, because it's an MSM. There aren't very many of them and the number is shrinking every year. So when my SCCA/NASA buddies or my sports car friends see my Mazdaspeed, they all geek out and want to drive it, LOL! It's the same thing with a Conquest/Starion. I love my Conquest because of what it is. Granted, now as my primary track car, it's just a shell of its former self with roll-cage additions, suspension work and brake upgrades to name the short-side of its laundry list. There are faster cars from that period, there are better cars from that period . . .but none of them are a Conquest, :)

Ever since I saw a picture in the 2000’s in a magazine of Clint Eastwood driving a emerald green one with the caption that this was his daily driver since new I was sold. Seriously if Clint can look like a boss driving one anyone can 🤣. Shame values have been steadily creeping up and I suspect they’re going to get crazy like all the other cool 80’s and 90’s vehicles
