I also owned a red 1993 VTEC, just like the one tested in this retro review. Before I purchased it, I did a lot of research, and remember reading various reviews -- that were actually not stellar. Mostly I remember reviewers being critical of the appearance and "ugly" interior. I never understood those reviews. I always felt the exterior was beautiful and interior very comfortable and "futuristic". Just before buying the Prelude, I test drove a Ford Probe V6 (a competitor to the Prelude at the time) and thought it was just alright. Shortly thereafter I test drive the Prelude and ... to this day remember vividly how absolutely blown away I was. So beautiful, so fast, so mechanically precise. It made the Probe feel like an 80s Buick. I drove it for 13 years. In retrospect, it appears to me that this was one of the best cars of the 90s -- absolutely the best in its class. The reviewers were totally wrong about the car, which is a good lesson and a reminder to always test drive a vehicle before buying.

A 6.3 0-60 is ridiculous for the age and power. They really got all of that to ground

Those engines could be modded to twice the horsepower and still work reliably. Extraordinary engineering.

Agreed, that seems a little too fast for what it is.

Agreed. My ‘97 Prelude 5-speed was never that quick. More like 7.5 secs 0-60 and low 15 sec E.T. It was in the twisties and highway when the VTech kicked in when the fun really started!

@@Lucille69caddy I had a 99 5th gen and sadly the 5th gen prelude were never as quick as the 4th gens even though they had 10 more hp in the 5th gens.

This engine makes as much HP as my Audi's 2.8L V6 which has DOHC and 5V per cylinder. Thats crazy.

Always wanted a Prelude, but back then they were just to pricey. Had to settle for 1991 CRX Si. Sure wish companies would bring back coupes like this. Sporty, but also a bit of luxury. Sadly if they did, they would price them so high they would be sold in such small numbers it would only last a few years. I don't understand why Honda stopped the Accord coupe. Well I understand, for the same price, you can get a 4 dr sedan.

As an owner of 2 Honda Preludes (2001 and a 1991) I would LOVE to see them bring back a Prelude for today's generation! I bet they could toss around 260hp and sell it around 25k and it would sell like crazy. This is when Honda was king, the 90's were truly the best years for Honda. The 2000's were complete dull boxes on the road, the world has changed though and Honda to me isn't the Honda it once was. To me, Honda Is just living off of their name at this point, not good looking innovative cars!

The Japanese Big Three were all on fire in the 90’s. It sucked to be a teen/young adult who loved Toyota sports cars at the time because I couldn’t afford ANY of them. I finally got my Celica in ‘99 and by then they didn’t offer a turbocharged model in my country 🤨 I have one now though! 😝 SW20 Turbo too!
