That 0-60mph speed for a 1993 vehicle is ridiculously impressive. SAABs were amazing cars.

Actually the 1992 9000 CS Carlsson was even quicker than the Aero when looking at factory specs.

Underated car. Extremly safe, fast and practical. This car was like a 5 door Porsche. But more than a decade before Porsche startet to build them. Also a huge cargo space.

The 9000 AERO is probably one of the most underrated cars in history. No car today comes close to the feels that car delivers. Absolutely perfect seating position, amazing power delivery, amazing ride.

In Italy we had also the Saab 9000 "cousins": Fiat Croma Lancia Thema Alfa Romeo 164. The four doors of the first two (and of the Saab 9000) where swappable!!
@vibingwithvinyl
@vibingwithvinyl Жыл бұрын
You could swap them, but they weren't exactly the same. Fiat lacked the side crash protection Saab had, and there were also other differences. I think the only part that was genuinely swappable was the windshield

I have a 1994 Aero and I'm at a loss what I will do to replace it when the time comes. Meets my needs very well, especially the four-door hatchback configuration, the awesome seats, great acceleration and reasonable gas mileage for a car this size. Plus, when I drive it, I rarely see another one!

Fantastic value for money. I had 2 of these spanning from 1992 to 2006. I then bought my first 9-5 2.3 Aero. It was not built quite so tank-like as the 9000, but I grew to love the way it cornered so much better than the previous models. I am now on my second 9-5, I have a 2004 2.2 Arc diesel (not sold in the USA) I never plan on selling it, 48 mpg and so reliable. If you absolutely had to replace your 9000, the 9-5 is a very worthy replacement. Still quite reasonably priced ones for sale. Just don't buy the New Generation ones from 2010, feels nothing like a Saab and lots of parts wear out prematurely, which is why I am keeping my current one for good.....

Last month I was getting my 2008 SAAB 9-5 serviced at the home garage of my superb SAAB Master Tech. Parked was a 1997 9000 lift back. I hopped inside the pristine interior, and I swear that the seats were the most comfortable I've ever sat in. I wish that my 2008 SAAB 9-5 had been designed with a lift back. Love this Motor Week review. Thanks for posting.

Always liked these. Almost bought penultimate versions but instead went for an S70 T5 with the manual. In many ways I preferred the Saab, even though by that time its styling had been around for 10+ years. Loved the dash and for whatever reason the black panel feature really thrilled my partner at the time. Deciding factor? The seats. Insufficient thigh support - short bottom cushion. I knew that I'd hate them, first, on any long drive, and then on principle alone.

The low end torque of this engine is purely awesome. Cruising on the highway in top gear, any other car would require a downshift to pass. Not the Saab, there's plenty of torque even in 5th gear at highway speeds.

98 mph is closer to 14.1 than a 15.1, must've had major wheel spin or VERY tall gearing🤔

@rbfclaboratoryandstudio
@rbfclaboratoryandstudio Жыл бұрын
@@fitfogeySaab’s are averse to launching from a stop. So these times are understandable. An LSD would help, but it doesn’t bother me in the least that Saab’s don’t make great drag racers. The trap speeds however indicate just how formidable the car is in terms of acceleration against other sports cars that run in the high 13’s and are RWD.

It's weird, low gears are tall, then high gears aren't. I feel like they made it to minimize wheel spin = easier to drive.
@MrDorsal99
@MrDorsal99 Жыл бұрын
I believe that they hinted that the Traction Control System got in the way of obtaining the fastest launch - when it detects a wheel spinning, it cuts the throttle. TCS was standard on all 1993 Aeros - fortunately not on my 1994, as it can be problematic when old.
@777jones
@777jones Жыл бұрын
The 93 traction control was not defeatable. My dad’s 1995 had a TCS defeat button. These cars had midrange punch like a 911 turbo.
