After being absent from the American market for 8 years, 2019 saw the return of one of Ford’s most venerable truck names, the Ranger. And that EcoBoosted midsize rig quickly picked up where the original compact Ranger left off. Well, now it’s time for a new fifth-generation Ranger. So, let’s find out if the latest global Ranger is still a winner.

Today's Ranger should be named the F-100, as it is just a step down from an F-150. The Maverick should be renamed the Ranger, because the only thing that name reminds me of is the '70-'77 Maverick that replaced the Falcon.

It is the current F-150. Its the size of the previous generation F-150. The current 150 is just different from the 250/350 in frame strength and engine options, otherwise its the same truck. We need a proper Ranger again, trucks are too big. A 2011 Ranger with the 2.0L EB or EcoBlue is what we need.
@DrT1250

2.3 liter turbocharged four popper is a bad idea for a pickup truck that can tow 7500lbs. Can you say "over-stressed"? Larger engines with more cylinders can be made to be very fuel efficient. My Mazda CX-70 Turbos S (mild hybrid) gets better fuel economy than the CX-5 turbo Signature we traded in for it. The CX-70 is 1 thousand pounds heavier, bigger, has more displacement (3.3L vs 2.5L) and more cylinders (I6 vs I4). The CX-70 gets better MPG in all scenarios. Even cruising at 75mph where the battery and emotor play a very limited role, the 70 gets 1 to 2 mpg better than the 2.5T CX-5. Larger, efficient and lower revving engines are much better for longevity and they can be just as efficient as a smaller four popper.

Did you say Regular fuel? Don't most turbo engines require, and perform better with premium fuel. My Wrx will not run well with anything below 91 octane. Maybe Fords are different.
@Apexgaming2468
@Apexgaming2468 2 күн бұрын
Unless stated by the manufacture all engines will run on 87 octane fuel but with Ford the power figures they give you is with 91+ octane fuel. So for daily commutes you can run 87 to save on fuel costs but when towing I'd probably run the 91+ octane to make sure you're getting full power to tow.

As with everyone else *"saved by Toyota"* which is not a win in my book but certainly fair warning as Toyota still has an enormity of product working just fine. Huge fan of Ford CEO Farley and the still greatest pickup truck launch since the 1999 Ford F150 this time the Ford Maverick now the very much welcome rumor is that Ford is not going to let Toyota wholly and totally dominate Sedan sales in the USA which is now true more today than ever before. Not even Honda can lay a glove on the Camry. Ranger Verdict: nothing wrong with competent but the Ineos Grenadier is where the buzz is for obvious reasons

I’m just hear to read all the people over 40 crying that they stopped buying small trucks in 2011 (when the Ranger, Dakota were killed off) so the manufacturers stopped MAKING small trucks. Guys. You stopped buying them. Ford and Dodge quit making the Ranger and the Dakota because you Gen X Super Boomers STOPPED BUYING SMALL TRUCKS. Every article I read when I was a teenager in the 2000’s was whining and crying that the old Ranger “rode like a pickup truck.” “Didn’t have a crew cab option.” “Didn’t have this tech or that tech or this backup camera” and it wasn’t worth buying. Now you’re all crying and whining that they got rid of the truck you asked them to stop making. Get it? Stop it, please. You demanded this. You killed off small, cheap, utility vehicles when you demanded your Ranger came standard with adaptive cruise and had a body style updated every 2 years. I read nothing but complaining in the 2000’s. “The truck is outdated. It needs a refresh. It’s the oldest design out there.” Yet a used 2011 Ranger 4x4 can go for almost $20,000 today.
