The keypad is one item that really leaves me upset. It’s now a dealer “installed” option for $500. Installed my . It’s “installed” with 2 sided tape. Ludicrous. Someone could walk by with a knife, and 5 seconds of time, and remove it. C’mon Ford. What in the world are you doing. And on top of all this, they are going with a subscription model for some big ticket items. When I’m going to be paying $80,000 plus for a vehicle, there should be no way I need to pay a subscription fee on top of that. All the manufacturers are doing it, but that doesn’t make it right. Jim, you need to make Ford batter than that. This is unacceptable.
@darpompie43542 ай бұрын
On the other hand, I have owned many Ford trucks including a recent Lightning purchase and I have never used the keypad. The lightning allows you to open the door with a fob, ford pass app, Apple Watch and phone as a key. I get that some may still want it but I have never found the need, especially with all the new ways to open the door. I won't do anything subscription either. Yes everyone is doing it but eventually one company will be subscription free, and that's where I will go if I want that feature. Ford so far is one of the better ones. They are trying to push Blue cruise subscriptions but they do offer a one time payment for lifetime.

@@darpompie4354I love my keypad. Allows me to lock up my keys, wallet and/or phone when doing recreational activities nearby and still allows me to quickly unlock it when I return. Also allows me to quickly tell a close friend or family my code so they can grab something out if I’m not nearby. I know it’s not for everyone but to axe the feature or charge an obscene amount for an inferior solution is insulting.

I literally use my keypad daily. Unbelievable they have taken it away! Literally one of the best things about Ford is the keypad. Going to the beach? Leave my keys in the truck. Skiing? Leave the keys in the truck. Any activity I might potentially lose my key? Leave it in the truck. How lame.
@darpompie43542 ай бұрын
@@Durataur They haven't taken it away... They made it an option. After they introduced phone as a key, the keypad is redundant to most people. You don't take your phone or your watch to the beach or skiing? I do. Not saying that you do or you should but again, you have the option of adding the keypad. Forcing me to pay for something I don't need is equally upsetting. I wish more things were optional. It's funny how hypocritical people get. The first point TFL went through being WTH for bundling stuff (forcing people to get stuff they don't want) is wrong, but then making the keypad optional so only those that want it pay for it is also wrong.

The F150 is a bad rock crawler compared to smaller Broncos and Wranglers, so the Torsten diff never got used to its potential due to the rest of the truck hitting it’s limit first (especially break over angle). I never understood why people turn a half ton truck into a rock crawler, making it much worse at truck things, when there are much better vehicles designed for rock crawling. Same arguments apply to other extreme conditions where the weight of the truck makes it perform worse than smaller vehicles, and the size makes it more difficult to maneuver into better lines and terrain.

THANK YOU for calling these things out! As a longtime Ford customer (5 Fords and 1 Lincoln) I cannot stand seeing what they're doing over there. It seems like every day they make yet another decision to push me towards another manufacturer. The expensive bundling is horrible on the new F150, the customization is worse than ever, the cost for a vehicle is insane, and one of the best features of owning a Ford--the keypad--is being taken away as a factory option. Recalls are out of control, cost-cutting seems apparent everywhere in their latest vehicles, they're taking away physical buttons and making them digital, they've moved some manufacturing to China, and the list goes on and on. So glad we have TFL to call these things out, because I feel like my one little voice isn't gonna change Ford, but maybe a few outlets can make a difference. I'm ready for Jim Farley to hit the road.

The warranties don’t get longer because people are still buying. The whole reason for warranties is to give the consumer a peace of mind. For example: If an automaker is only offering 3 years of warranty coverage but it still sells well, the automaker has no incentive to increase the warranty coverage period. It’s the negative quality reputation along with poor sales that would force the hands of the automaker to increase its warranty spending.

This is all about decreasing manufacturing costs. By streamlining option packages they decrease the number of variations they have to produce. This is why some manufacturers like Honda, Toyota, Hyundai and Kia offer only dealer installed options. To get more features, you just move up to the next trim level. This means when the factory builds a certain trim level, the only production variation is exterior color. @7:00... Another Maverick issue... Production delay and price. My friend ordered a Maverick Hybrid TWO YEARS ago. The truck just arrived at the dealer and they want $4k more than the price they agreed on because Ford jacked up the MSRP. @12:00... I think destination charges are legitimate charges, however they're no longer charging what it actually costs to transport the vehicle. Most used to be well under $1k. I transport from Co-part auctions all over the country to Vegas. I never pay $2k and that's for a single vehicle. Ford transports 8 to 10 vehicles on a single truck to a single destination. I bet the actual cost to transport a Maverick is about $600. The other $1400 is just added profit that they can collect without raising the price of the vehicle. It's BS and it would be nice if Congress passed a bill requiring the destination charge reflect the actual transit cost. It'll never happen though. Too much lobbyist money flowing. BTW, I'm a Ford guy. Fords I've owned... '08 Mustang GT/CS, '03 Mach 1, '14 F150, '18 F150, '17 Fusion Sport, and currently a '16 Fiesta ST.

Auto manufacturers have been playing the bundling game for years. This is especially true of 4WD vehicles. The actual suspension and driveline components to, for example, transform an ordinary 4WD Ranger to "Raptor" off-road capability cost the manufacturer $1K-$2K, at most. Someone got hired for a position they have no business being in over there. There are virtually no additional costs for switching equipment around that is already on the platform, as far as paint, suspension, and chassis. This is likely a combo of packaging being manipulated for highest profit margin, in the guise of "simplifying manufacturing" for quality reasons. As far as the factory workers are concerned there is virtually no difference on what trim level is what. The fastening points are all virtually the same, the only major differences come with 4wd, engine type, and rear end.
