Lol at how many times the word 'Yuppie' was spoken. Ahhhhh the 90's......
@acaaew9 жыл бұрын
When I was growing up in the 80's and 90's I remember my mom use to say that BMW drivers were yuppies. In national lampoons Christmas vacation the neighbors were a perfect example of yuppies. The scene when they were crying after they found their stereo broken which I am pretty sure was a Bose (another yuppie telltale sign) defined a yuppie which was someone that their self worth was valued in the expensive and overpriced crap they sell. I still think someone buying a new BMW is a yuppie since you are getting ripped off but buying a used BMW after the yuppie has lost over half the cars resell value the moment they drove it off the lot can get you a lot of car for the money. Another term they like to say on this show which I am pretty sure is now considered racist is oriental which they say just about every time they reviewed a Japanese car.
@charlesvaughan60638 жыл бұрын
+Pepe Gutermann the only cost-effective way to drive one is to work on it yourself. OEM Lemforder control arms $100-$150 each. And if there's an automatic transmission in your M5, there is something really wrong! It's hard to find parts for the Getrag 280 5speed, but you can get an expertly rebuilt and adapted Getrag 265 from Metric Motors for $5k. Oem Clutch parts are cheap, but a new dual-mass flywheel is over a grand - so get an aftermarket lightweight one for maybe $400.

60-0 in 106ft, for a 3800lb car? Wow, that is fairly impressive even for today, and just think if it had a modern tire compound. This sort of tells me braking technology has been lagging.
@greghmn3 жыл бұрын
It has a lot less to do with the brakes themselves and far more with the limitations of the human body. A more effective brake might not cause internal bleeding but for in extreme circumstances, but we're still talking about 1 g of acceleration or more pushing against something as narrow as a seatbelt, which might cause severe discomfort even in non-emergency situations. If a car gains a reputation for doing this, no one will buy it. Even if this weren't enough to turn away buyers, there's going to be a point at which the harm done by something like this exceeds any potential benefits. Until seatbelts are replaced by something better, this will be the case.

I bought a BMW 4-series and became part of the BMW a-hole club. One thing I will say about the stereotype that BMW drivers drive like a-holes is that BMW's, at least the one I bought, handle so incredibly precisely that you really do have pinpoint control of the car - as in you know exactly where the car is and you have 100% confidence in what you're doing. So when you see people like doing things in traffic that make you scared, just relax and realize we got it, we're able to do things that you in your POS can't do, so just give us a tip of the hat and chill out.

They aren't white walls, it's just how the rim look. Those are M-systen 1 split wheel. That flat outer disk with the fins is a separate piece that sits on the hub of the wheel like a hubcap sorta. They were designed to provide aircooling to the brakes with those fins. In 92 they were replaced by a different design, the M-system 2, which are also commonly called Throwing Stars. This is what they look like when disassembled motoringconbrio.com/2009/12/08/function-over-form-bmw-m-system-turbine-wheels/

Really could make this comment on any one of the Retro review videos, but why the obsession with a damn voltmeter gauge in vehicles lol. They always make Mention when a car doesn’t have oil pressure or voltage read outs on the dash; I get the relevant nature of a way to monitor oil pressure, but in a daily driver who cares how much voltage your generator is putting out? It’s either charging or it’s not, which a dummy light is sufficient to tell you. Your average street car isn’t going to perform any different if it’s making 12.8 or 13.5V. It really doesn’t matter anywhere near what say a fuel gauge or speedo, oil pressure gauge etc matters. If the alternator is working you’re good to go. I never understood the need for a voltmeter on say a Ford Taurus or Mazda Miata or any regular vehicle like that. Power matters in my grudge car because it’s a 16v system with no capability to recharge itself. But on my daily driver, I could care less what the generator is putting out.
