We were very happy when we heard that Acura was bringing back the Integra, and even happier after we drove it. We really feel that their new effort fully lived up to the Integra reputation. Well, the good news just keeps on coming, as Acura has just released the new Integra Type S. Could we possibly be any happier? I find it fascinating MotorWeek can make even the newest of episodes feel like they got made in the 1990's. Audio is buzzy like if done on a boom mic, video looks like 720p, cast is the same John D, same old school country club suits. I love it.

The car is cool, but yeah, that's a steep price for a FWD turbo 4-banger. The dealer markups will be what really kill it for the average buyer, though.

The wife and I are on vacation presently and we are looking to replace her 2012 GTI Autobahn DSG that we purchased new. The Integra Type S is one of the vehicles we are considering. We visisted three dealerships and 2 had the vehicle marked up 10k with an additional 2.5k in dealerhship add-ons and the other dealer wanted 15k over sticker. Each dealer relayed to me it is a special car, I just chuckled.

Dealer markups are virtually gone already on them in my experience, several Acura dealerships are sitting on them already. I predict discounts on them fairly soon
@geneg6343
@geneg6343 8 ай бұрын
@@jameswillard1 Unfortunately, markups are still the standard for certain models in SOCAL (Orange County and San Diego County). We are also considering a VW Golf R with markups from 5k - 15k. We can get a new BMW M2 for MSRP and we may go that route. We have an 18 BMW M5 F90 and prior to the M5 we had a new 15 BMW M3 F80. The interesting issue is we test drove both the M3 at 82k MSRP in July of 2014 and the M5 in August of 2018 with a MSRP of $124k. Trying to get a test drive in Acura Integra Type S and Golf R is like pulling teeth and has not been possible. Funny we did test drive a new Audi RS3 with no issues but they wanted 20k over MSRP. My wife of 37 years is the frugal one and I would have no problem spending 70k on a new M2 even though we are not thrilled with the exterior design of the vehicle.

If you're only looking at acceleration and specsheet numbers then you're a fairly common/entry level sportscar enthusiast. Your tastes may/should mature as you grow up and get more experience with cars. Do you track and have your HPDE4 to really appreciate nuances across different cars? The average person really has no idea what they're talking about beyond the feel of which car is faster when they floor it. I'm mostly a RWD purist but if you've ever driven FWD cars with any moderate amount of horsepower than you should be able to appreciate how they nearly eliminated torquesteer in this car. The Type R & S are quite likely the best performing FWD cars made to date- if the niche demographic of FWD cars is interesting to you.

To recap: Slower than the Type R but more monies. Great FWD but still has FWD setbacks. A “softer” sport mode with a less aggressive throttle map. Lacks basic luxury features like climate control in the rear or a powered passenger seat. (Basically only adds heated seat and HUD for luxury items over the Civic) Costs substantially more than the car it shares nearly every underpinning with other than sheet metal. Costs the same as a 382hp AWD car with more luxury from BMW. Costs more than an Audi S3 which is arguably similar in performance but provides more luxury. And at 61k (which many dealers are asking for a Type S) you could buy a number of cars, including the 401hp, 369lb ft of torque, sub 4 0-60 RS3. If you’re into German engineering that is. So in short, it’s an overpriced Civic Type R designed for Honda fan bois who want to pretend that they have a luxury sports car when in truth it does neither well for the price. I have more luxury items in my 40k CX-30. I’m a Honda fan. Owned an Integra, RSX and Civic Type R. But as an adult…the Type S is a laughably poor choice for the money. I appreciate the Honda reliability but at 52k before adding anything else to the price, there are RWD and AWD options that do performance AND luxury better. Honda fans can disagree but once the nostalgia wears off and actual buyers of luxury performance cars cross shop…it’ll fall short.

@@Marbind Inflation is one thing, but "market adjustment" is just a different term for scalping. That's OK. Because of that, I'm not interested. Also, it's FWD. Where I live, I could use AWD. Not to mention better consistency in off the line performance. I have a 2018 Civic Si and it's great as far as performance and economy, but I'd trade some economy for more performance.

Car is an instant collector car. Has all the ingredients - underrated performance, price is too high, comparing it to shitty cars that are faster on a drag strip (they all lose to EVs anyway) or have more HP but weigh more, special to drive, 6-speed, etc. Too unique and too expensive, just like any other collector car. People are going to be dying for these cars when they are gone. Everyone wants one but at a lower price.

Perhaps I'm spoiled, but I continue to be deflated when car after car is hyped, and then the actual numbers come out. I gauge a sedan based on my ownership in the early to mid 2000's of a WRX, STi, and LGT. Every one of those vehicles were faster than this. For more 'hyper' sedans, I bounce it against a previous owned Audi S8 4.0 TT which I bought used, and to date, not a single vehicle at that same used car price point comes near to its performance. I really want to like this vehicle. It's good looking, seems to tick most of the right boxes (maybe not the fwd aspect though), and comes with a manual trans. However, these numbers seem slow to me. Perhaps it is the driver? Track and weather conditions? I don't know but when a 20 year old stock Subaru can lay down a 12.9 sec. 1/4 mile, and this one is near an entire second behind....it makes me shake my head. Definitely a used car prospect given the MSRP. I predict it'll drop fairly quickly too due to the manual. Picked up a Caddy ATS-V for a great price for that same reason, before they started to become more popular with those considering collecting.
