i work as a Skoda salesman. The buttons are really great to customize however they are low quality as they are from cheap plastic, they look good but they only imitate metal and its nothing else than wobbly plastic as are vents for AC so I think the designers dont deserve a raise matter of fact they fucked really bad on several parts of this car.

As a Skoda employee, I can confirm that VW tries to shut Skoda's engineers' ideas... because it would sell better than VW models (in this case Passat which is literally the same car, but fine-tuned by VW engineers). And still, Skoda manages to outsell VW in many markets :D This can also be seen on 2016-ish reaction of the VW top manager on Skoda consideration to join US market (didn't happen because it would be a "suicide" - but we all know why). I really hope they will do some special versions as they did with the previous generation - from Scout to Sportline... 🤔

So it doesn't really matter if it's a Skoda, VW or Audi. The diesels from the VAG group (VW, Skoda, Audi, seat...) are still the best engines to have.... Very reliable and if well maintained can have very high mileage..... Very economical and refined... I had a VW passat, 200.000 km still went like brand new.. a cousin still has a 10 year old 2.0 diesel Skoda , over 400.000 km no technical problem so far.... History will remember these engines as automotive icons , despite all this EV madness and bans and taxes on diesels from the greedy politicians .....

All around a car made to be used daily with features meant to ease your life which your bmw doesnt have that manage with daily struggles and problems.

We have 2 Skodas. My wife has a superb, 250k on the clock still runs like a dream, only problem left hand door harness(common fault across all V5 brands). I have an octaves, 118k, no issues. Keep looking at the new ineos grenadier, but every time think why.?

I own a 2019 Superb and the gearbox sluggishness happens because it holds the 2nd gear even at 10km/h. If you floor it, it changes into 1st and it shoots forward, but if you do like half gas, it just slips the clutch. Both ways, it takes a while.

I own a 2022 mk3 Superb SE Tech DSG estate with the 148hp TDI engine. I was averaging 60mpg+ at 80mph on French autoroutes recently with three of us onboard and a very full boot, in complete comfort. I’ve seen new mk4 SE Tech 150bhp petrols new for sub-£30k. Fantastic cars. Just found out to my surprise recently that my Skoda service plan also includes tyre replacement at 2mm tread too (less than I’d like). Only wish I’d bought the SEL to gain the full matrix LED lights that can switch from RHD beam to LHD. It’s also a very green choice according to Green NCAP; the Octavia with the same TDI was in 2022 the car with the least CO2 emissions across the typical lifecycle when taking manufacturing into account- better than EVs. Save the planet: drive a diesel Skoda estate!

Not that anyone from Carwow ever reads comments but would like to say that it is annoying having to pay £120 for rear window wiper but at least it is an option. Other manufacturers don’t believe it rains - ever. 😊. Plus it does come pretty well equipped with safety and driver aids that other manufacturers - BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc are all extras. Nice to see a couple of proper reviews of affordable cars - ish - on this site rather that Matts pet projects that no one else cares about on bloody drag races. What is that all about. Some very nice touches, would like to see the estate version review, but i really do wish Skoda would look at the design of how the rear seats go down (on the estate especially), i am struggling to see why other makers can get their rear seats to go totally flat when Skoda cannot. People who buy the estate version often need to carry large items, having a totally flat interior is a real bonus. Just an ask for the future.

Another great review Matt. I’m a Skoda fan having owned my Superb awd 3.6 Embrach (Swiss) edition estate since 2014. One thing that constantly irks though is the way car testers seemingly compare the Superb with a BMW 3 series or Audi A4. That’s wrong. Octavia = 3 series, A4 Superb = 5 series, A6 And I’d take the Skoda every time over a BMW/Audi for a myriad of strong reasons. Great cars 👍

I never understand why the car brands don't send the top spec car. An L&K with all the bells and whistles and the more powerful petrol engine and the adaptive suspension would have been a much better review.

Most of the sale of this car will be for companies because they will give those cars for their employees. Existing or future employees or natural persons will consider a mid-spec version of this car. It were happened like that in the past. Think ‘company-wise’ VW AG shouldn’t kill audi or VW with skoda. So their brand, Skoda will give their full-spec L&K Superb at a price point where the customer starts to think that an Audi isn’t that far. Putting some extras in and we are already doubled the price of the original of the baseline Superb. Like a well specified Macbook Air, which’s price not that far already from the 14’’ Pro, well spec 14” pro has the same price as the 16” one and so on😉 see through the layers of these companies pricing techniques.

Most people don't buy the top spec car and pretending thar the top spec represents the average would be cheating. Skoda isn't cheating in this way because it really builds on making happy drivers. The secret is that it actually still works better than cheating.

I am driving an Octavia Estate 2.0 TDI, and there is a reason we affectionately call it Skip, because thats the size the boot appears to be. Same 2 litre diesel as the Superb, but a lighter car so better mileage. 50mpg and above is very easy to achieve, 60 odd on a run is a regular event and an absolute best of 83.3mpg on a trip to Whitby. If you want a reliable car just look at what Taxi drivers and Emergency Doctors use in your area, that's what led me to the Octavia. Then I discovered my brother has a Superb, my two nephews have an Audi and a Seat, and my son is in a Golf.

They also use them for VIP limousines in Czechia. Incredible legroom. Mine even uses the hands-free microphone so the driver can talk to rear passengers.

Realistically the body type should be classified by the body type and not because of the tailgate style. Any car where the body extends the rear window line should class as a sedan/saloon. VW Golf = hatchback

That's a graceful looking sedan. The only thing that puts me off from buying cars these days, irrespective of brand, is turbo-charged engines, and, in most cases, DCT transmissions, if you're into lots of city driving. My apologies for being old school.
