So many people complaining about the price, but for what it has to offer its priced right IMO. I have a 2017 fully loaded sport, and was going back and fourth between the 4runner limited. Months of research to narrow it down to these two vehicles, and I don't regret my decision one bit.

After having 2 Ford Flexs (and 09 SE and a 14 SEL) my wife wanted something different - we ended up with a '17 Explorer Platinum and she LOVES it. If you're looking at sticker prices and having to sit down to recover and don't need the higher ground clearance or the off road "modes" that the Explorer has then the Flex is a very good choice fully loaded but minus the massaging seats and very nice sounding audio (though the Flex Limited still offers a decent Sony system) you can save almost $8k and still get the EcoBoost 3.5l motor and AWD - and in my opinion more middle row space and rear cargo room with the 3rd row folded than with the Explorer. Still if you want some luxury the Explorer is the way to go short of moving into a Lincoln which there isn't a sister model between Ford and Lincoln for the Explorer.

Lots of hard work, planning and saving Jordan. I'm by no means a "baller". I make a decent living - and for me most of the vehicles I drive are "mileage machines" usually get 50k + miles on them a year which the company I work for pays to basically make the payment for my "work car" after about 18 months what the value vs. what I owe is even so I "turn it over" - I typically get a new car because of financing deals and manufacturer money along with working with a salesperson and dealership I've worked with for over 20 years - I typically get a very good deal. I'm also away from my family 10-15 days a month for work so if living out of a suitcase is a "nice life" I guess I'm guilty. My grandfather said to me more than once: "you can have anything you want but probably not everything you want". We also don't have any other consumer debt a nice (but still not over the top "luxury brand" car is our one "splurge" - for what most people spend on a couple evenings on the town or in booze or entertainment covers the payment on that "nice car"... Jordan - have some dreams and aspirations bro - work a few extra hours and save some - you'll achieve your desires I have faith in you man!

Question: If the Ford Explorer is the midsize, then what is Ford's other 7 passenger SUV the Flex considered as?

wheh, 54k or whatever is pricey, there are so many luxury brands you can play with at that price. 30's of course is fine.

But how many come with everything that this model has already at this price?
@suprsquirrel22157 жыл бұрын
That's the issue. Sure, you can get a Land Rover Discovery for essentially the same price. Problem is there are all kinds of complaints about the 'fit and finish' on those (we considered one prior to buying our '17 Explorer.) Most every 'luxury' vehicle you get into in the price range to compare with the Explorer is their 'entry level' SUV. So you're basically paying for the brand name without all the bells and whistles. Trust me, we shopped many of those very 'luxury vehicles' prior to buying ours. :-) (Not arguing with you, agreeing with you.) :-)

Also Ford owned a Part of Rover in the past and the designs were under licence to ford. That being said, its a great suv. love the motor, it doesnt lean or roll in corners. I get 22-24mpg on the highway with great power. Its still a ford, there is some shoddy stuff, door gaps ect but all in all I think its a good bang for the buck when compared to others in the same price.(if you can say that about a 50k SUV). Honda and Mazda will probably age better, resale better but they were very bland, no excitement at all. Mazda felt under powered and the honda just screamed " I dont care about cars". Mazda had an amazing interior though.

@Scotty_in_Ohio7 жыл бұрын
I agree with the 3rd row being (next to) useless - it was only setup as seats for the drive home - after that it's cargo area only - I will say they were more usable and comfortable than or previous Flexes.
@Scotty_in_Ohio7 жыл бұрын
It's easy to talk yourself into the higher trim levels - Ford knew what they were doing when they made certain options available only on some trim levels and even when you could option certain features on lower ones (say an XLT) it would be less expensive to move up trim levels when doing so. An example is it's not an option to get the heated 2nd row seats in the Sport but you can add them in the XLT with certain packages and come standard in the Platinum - by the time you figure things out like that you've "talked yourself" into the higher trim level. You can also get more discount on a $50k SUV than you can on a $29k model...

Who wants a Range Rover?
@kippaseo80277 жыл бұрын
If you like this Explorer than I would wait about 3 years to buy a pre-owned one that will cost like 1/5 of it's original price due to a shitty resale value and sub-par reputation of reliability. So what if in 3 years it will probably squeak and rattle and most likely have that "old American car smell" at least it'll be cheap enough and the only dealership that will sell it to you will offer "In house financing" and at last you weren't dumb enough to get stuck with the Grand (Elizabeth Warren) Cherokee which would have been MUCH worse.

Looks really good, but i'm still calling it the "Exploder". It's never been a good quality vehicle, not compared to Ford's most dependable vehicles made in the past 25yrs.

palebeachbum, it's a CROSSOVER!!! Or as I call it, a stationwagon!!! The explorer was NEVER, uh NEVER a CROSSOVER SUV!! I too have a '98, Eddie Bauer XLT 5.0 V8 Limited Edition, Ford Explorer and I'm getting at least 20 MPG outta this here FULL SIZE SUV, WITHOUT ECOBOOST, n only paid $500 for it. $54,000.00, for a land rover twin that gets only 16 MPG..... and its an ECOBOOST Platinum Edition.......damn. That's a new mortgage loan for almost 20 years. My opinion of course. Ever since they got rid of the Crown Vics, the big body SUVs, and the minivans, looks to me like they went European not American. Dodge did the same. Look at the new Dodge RAMs and the Nissan Titans..... looks absolutely Identical.

This IS the new standard for Suburban folks, and $50k IS the current standard for pricing. If you don't like it, perhaps you should all get better jobs?

In my auto tech i had the pleasure of getting a good view of one of these 2017 models, Ford loaned it to us for practice for a competition, had every option pretty much, and that 2.3L I4, all i can say is, seems pretty overpriced, back in the day (heck even today) $40K could get you a 3/4 ton truck, though now $40K for just a crossover? pretty overpriced

Your Rogue is also in a different class than the Explorer, unless they've added a third row to the Rogue that I wasn't aware of. Compare it to the Escape to get a better comparison.

do not buy a ford! They are junk! My 2015 Ford Explorer is falling apart just after the warranty expired and I had a problem with it before the warranty expired that they said they did not have a fix for at the time but now they have a fix for it and they won't fix my car because it's passed the warranty. They are very shady!! My car has about 50,000 miles on it and the door is falling apart and they admit it is a design defect and it occurring in a lot of the explorers but they still will not fix it. This is a $40,000 car!!! A fully loaded limited Ford Explorer. One of the problems with my car is a safety issue is what makes it even worse.. Exhaust leaks into the cabin of the car. Junk! And they're customer service is very rude!!!!! My niece has a new Ford Focus that is falling apart too and has transmission problems!!

Amanda Amanda K the ford explorer is far more reliable than the honda pilot or nissan pathfinder, 99% of people who own these cars will own them for 15 yrs with little to no issue.
