On my GMC truck 6.6l Diesel, lost power smoked like rolling coal. It threw a code for low boost pressure among 3 other codes, including one for the Mass Air Flow Sensor. I changed the Mass Air sensor and the other 2 codes went away with it. This was just to make the point that you said. These things are all interconnected and mess with each other. These codes oftentimes just push you in a direction, but you still need to use a little thought process to figure things out. Back in the distributor days, An old Corrolla one time developed a bad wire and misfired as it shorted to the head. Car would not run worth a crap on the other three cylinders. I presumed that the unburned fuel from the one missing cylinder was messing with the O2 sensor and it was shutting down the fuel to the whole engine. I changed the one wire, the engine ran fine after that for as long as we owned the car. (I changed the other 3 after too)

ZImpresive *timing belt* ? *simple* ? Most cars from 2008-now dont feature one! (some Honda V6s & Lexus trucks still have them) Otherwise: its not always a simple job to replace a timing belt- most FWD cars dont give you alot of wiggle room, some engines have the most complicated designs: (Honda/Mitsubishi), & even worse: *some engines are interference- timing belt engines* translation:*you miss ONE TOOTH on the cams-you could break/or bend some valves into the piston* !

I had a 2012 Eco Boost F150 V6 (3.5L). Did the same thing. I could drive it for weeks without problem but sometimes it did that. NO POWER. Shut if off for few minutes... back to normal. Ended up totaling that one on accident... have nothing but V8 F-150's since.

Since the oil was low I bet the oil ran hotter and the ECU went into "limp mode" and cut the turbo boost. I used to have a 300zx twin turbo and the ECU would keep the turbo boost very low until the engine got to operating temps. Cold oil is thick and hot oil is thin and either scenario is bad for turbos..

My GMC is 13 years old, 265K miles, and still purring like a kitten. I need to pull the valve covers and check the rockers, but really nothing is different. It's still got the same power (or similar enough I don't notice), drives great, and still gets great gas mileage. It's all about how you take care of your vehicle and what you use when it does need to be repaired. I've chewed through a couple sets of hubs (2 each side) but I live in an area where we have to use 4x4 to get up the hill multiple times daily in the best of weather, in the worst, well you gotta give 'er hell, but she gets there every time. It's a shame to hear the quality has gone down as much as it has of late, seems like ever since the big bailout things went to crap with them.

Shhhh dont tell that to the "new GM" truck buyers out there. They take offense when you insult their masculinity by pointing out its probably not a good a idea to have your 4200lb truck be powered by a 4 cylinder. And an ecoturd at that. People just dont seem to want to learn or listen to the experts, until they have to tow their vehicle to your shop.
@rogerpearson90814 жыл бұрын
Good man Scotty for saving the customer $$$ The problem with these small engines is they are more like an F1 engine and simple things like the spark plugs having a higher resistance can upset the feedback because it uses the spark resistance to measure engine output/boost. Presumably it is designed to stop someone just winding the boost up to go faster. I drove an early electronic Volvo truck which would pull like a train until the temperature got over 25 degrees C and would then derate 20 odd percent like you had flicked a switch. Euro truck in Australian climate was not good.

I've heard good things about the ecoboost v6's, my dad has one and I love that motor. Heard about the water pump deal that costs around $1600 to fix but it's not too common, people say that engine will go to 200k easily with no problems. Even so $1600 is a small price to pay for the performance it has.

Turbos in such a large vehicle with a small engine 🧐, great job Ford. Making it more complicated with poor quality just shows that gone are the days of simple thinking such as “it’s a big car, let’s use a V6” haha.

There's a V6 but it has Turbos too. All automakers are jumping on this go-kart sized engine with turbo idea, and Toyota is doing this with the new 2021 Tundras too....they went from bad to worse.

I've got a 1975 mustang and that 2.3L 4 cylinder is nice and simple. I'm pretty sure in the 80s they made the same engine with a turbo. Dont get me wrong, these mustangs were super light so that would be great but back then they had some common sense
