Wow, these engines are so easy. I'm 15, and after watching your videos and one other video, I kinda know how to build a Chevy Smallblock. I don't say I can build one on my own, but I kinda get the idea how it works. Greetings from Germany.

Hi I know this is an old vid but I was just wondering how much did the total build cost you at the time and did you ever put it on a Dyno to see what kind of power it makes and what did you put it in after all and is there a video of it running. Can't take me on a journey to see how it was torn down and rebuilt and NOT let me hear what it sounds like... come on bud

heating a damper in an oven will damage the rubber between the hub and inertia ring.that is also why you should not install one with a hammer

Take your time, stuff like this can't be rushed. I'm trying to rebuild the 5.0, in my 1987 Camaro, after i get all the body work and etc done before the body gets wasted. But thank Chris for all his hard work for me please and great job with these episodes.

carb spacers are actually a very effective way to eliminate the regular heat transfer from engine to carb that can actually cause some serious running issues, especially in motors with some descent power. especially holleys due to fuel pressure and expansion irregularities. engine looks awesome

Good trick for the harmonic balancer and/or hub on a SBC (LT1 in my case): I remove and install my balancer and hub as a single piece. It can be separated but I like to do it all at once. It's an ATI super damper. Heat it up in the oven at about 350-400 degrees. Grab some BBQ or welding gloves and put in on. It goes above halfway on like this. Then I use the balancer tool to push it on the rest of the way. Way less frustrating than making sure it's going on straight with the tool when it's barely on.

@Leonard.. if you are doing a V-6 to V-8 swap you are in for a lot of work. You can put any chevy V-8 you want into it but, you will need to change out the V-6 motor mounts on your frame, you will need a bigger radiator, atleast a TH350 or a 700R-4 trans, and a long list of other things... The swap is totally possible but can take a lot of time and money, so you may want to consider finding another Camaro that already has a V-8 set up

I thoroughly enjoyed these series of videos, the machined surfaces make me drool. although I see the only thing left from the original engine is the block; would be much more of a challenge if old parts were used the most. and lastly the same question as everyone else, is there a video of the engine running after rebuild?

Beautiful, but a minor point is I would have filled the oil filter with oil before installing. The last thing you want on a newly rebuilt engine is oil starvation.
@MrYoyojuan
@MrYoyojuan 9 жыл бұрын
I would have thought the assembly lube would be enough for the few seconds it would take to fill the oil filter and then move through the rest of the engine?
@sokodad
@sokodad 9 жыл бұрын
We took the bottom half of an old distributor and cut it and put an end on so you could put a drill on it and then we'd hook up a oil pressure gauge and run the drill until we had consistent oil pressure and the engine was completely primed then. We also put oil in the filter upon start up.

***** Yes we did. Forgot to mention that. I'm no expert but I've built a few engines and all, knock on wood, are still running. I took my time and followed my manual. I don't build often enough to remember it all. I want to do a cam upgrade on my 06 Silverado but after looking at what it'll take I think it runs just fine like it is, lol. I have a small block laying on the garage floor that my son and I are looking for a project to build it for. I'm a little rusty but he's wanting to learn.

Hi, I just want to thank you for such a fantastic video series. I've only just recently started playing around with cars having started a degree in engineering in Australia. This series was so well planned out, filmed and explained. A very professional job. I realise you're sponsored by Craftsman (unfortunately not available in Australia) but it has exposed me to the different kinds of automotive tools and their quality. They sound like a well thought out brand and seem to be reasonably priced. I will be picking up a few things when I'm over for my holiday :) Once again, thank you for such an inspiring series and I look forward to watching others in your seasons. Especially the mustang? I believe I heard some rags to riches stories lol. Thanks man.

Outside of obviously replacing the injectors and having no carburetor, what steps would be different in rebuilding a fuel-injected engine, specifically a TPI 350 SBC? Is it still the same outside of the fuel delivery system, or are there other considerations in the process?

Hey guys. I just found your channel. This is just what I need. I am putting a 307 small block in a 1954 Dodge Fargo 1/2 ton. I am not rebuilding the motor because it is still good. I am not a mechanic so I don't know what I am doing as far as getting all the components on the motor and hooking them up so the motor will run. I have followed this series on rebuilding your engine just because it was interesting. I really needed the last part when you were building the top end. I hope you have a video on how to connect the hoses to the carb and starter as well as the trans. A good friend of mine was suppose to show my but he fell ill and is unable to work on cars anymore. Hope you can assist me. I have subscribed to you channel so I can keep up.

@ George..You mention leaks. I would be more concerned with the Chrome stuff causing the leaks.No amount of silicone or hi-tack will overcome that super slick chrome surface. I always grind the gasket side of anything chrome to make something for the stuff to adhere to. But what i think should be mentioned is when the block was cleaned,all plugs knocked out that under the rear main cap is a small oil galley plug that was out so it could be cleaned proper. Without it there is NO oil pressure.

I noticed that you didn't install the Cam thrust plate. Did I miss that part? Also, noticed you used cork gaskets. Was this because of cost vs. Felpro's updated gasket set? A little tip I picked up to use with cork and paper gaskets (carb gasket). Just like you "coat" the oil filter lightly with oil, you can coat the cork gaskets on the oil pan, the valve covers, along with the paper Dist. gasket, and carb gasket with a light coat of moly grease, try that and they NEVER dry out!

Here is a question that I see get asked a lot. How far should the Harmonic Balancer be from the Timing Cover, rear edge of balancer to front of timing cover?
@sixty9fordkiller
@sixty9fordkiller 11 жыл бұрын
that brand new carburetor alone will set you back about $450. The intake manifold about $150. The dart iron heads will run you about $650ish. The hydraulic roller cam setup (with the lifters) about $500. the rotating assembly about $900ish. then there is still engine prepping and gasket sets and sheet metal & accessories.
