Here it is! Our top pick for hitch mounted motorcycle carriers - The Mototote MTX Sport!
We downsized from a giant fifth wheel toy hauler & sold our beloved Goldwing F6B to have a smaller footprint and a more nimble travel style. But giving up the joy of seeing America on 2 wheels wasn't an option!
We knew we did not want to tow a utility trailer behind our new rig because adding that much extra length would defeat the whole reason we downsized in the first place.
The Mototote hitch mounted motorcycle carrier gives us the best of both worlds allowing us to comfortably bring our Xmax 300 scooter with us while we travel & keep our overall length to a minimum! 🤩

Just curious, I noticed you don't have the back end strapped down on your scoot. Is it not necessary on the Mototote?
@EatSeeRV

Strapping the rear wheel is definitely necessary! I should have mentioned this in the video but, the rear tire harness I ordered won't work correctly because of the position of the motor on the xmax, bummer. Moving forward I will be strapping the rear down through the wheel, on top of the hub. Thanks for the great question! - Dennis

I have have a mototote on the back of a 31' class "A" motorhome for past three years carrying a honda silverwing (550 lbs) without a problem. Covered at least 15000 miles. Loading can be much easier when reducing the ramp loading angle. Loading on a curb or near a slope makes loading and unloading much easier if you do not have any help. I use a motorcycle cover to reduce the amount of dirt collected when driving in wet weather. I consider it to be the best one on the market. It is much better than hauling a car or trailer around and is great for running to the store or sightseeing. I can usually find someone to assit loading to be safe. Unloading is a single handed operation. Loading and unloading is a five minute operation. I use a disc brake lock and a cable lock for security. When unattended for long periods i put the ramp into the motorhome and it becomes impossible to remove bike without a hoist of somesort. Lighring kit is a necessity. Also have used on the back of a ford 2500 series pick up. It tends to overhang due to narrower width of vehicle. Bottom line...... if you are running close to load limit i would have a hitch installer check robustness of hitch to insure vertical load can be managed safely (tounge weight). Absolutely a great design in my opinion! Not often do i take the time to comment on a product. In this case i felt the necessity to endorse a well made product and company. Btw i am from Canada.

Hi, Bob! Thanks for sharing your Mototote experience! It's very comforting to know that you haven't had any issues while converting that many miles. Especially since your silverwing is that heavy. 💪 Our xmax is only 397 lbs so I'm really confident in the Motototes ability to handle it. I would have chosen a slightly larger bike, like the Ducati Dessert Sled, if our RV chassis could have handled the tounge weight, but we are very happy with the rig combination we've built! The only thing I would add to the Mototote setup up would be reverse lights and maybe a tag relocation bracket, I've heard Mototote will have a bracket available by the end of summer this year! 🥳 Where abouts in Canada are you from? We've love exploring your country! - Dennis ✌️

Looks like a good Motorcycle rack. Watching other RVers that have done this, they have found out the whole unit tends to rock back and forth or side to side. Look at Campervan Keven, he just put in three hitch receivers to fix the rocking problem. The rocking over time puts stress on the few welds and they break. One RVer had that happen with just bikes and that isn't much weight.

Applaud your reenforcing the hitch. However did you consider adding outriggers from either side of the hitch extending from the frame out to the carrier to further stabilize the carrier? Many videos show these single point attachment carries (the hitch) act like teeter-toters going down the road even with the hitch cinch you described.
@EatSeeRV

I did consider doing that. But after chatting with the guys at Mototote & Justin "my welder" I decided to hold off as it shouldn't be necessary. However if I notice that it wobbles more than I'm comfortable with or if I notice any signs of wear or failure I will definitely add additional supports! Thanks Peter! - Dennis ✌️

Thank you and congrats on the new scoot! Dude, the Mototote is more than worth the investment. It's been installed with the Xmax loaded on the back of the RV for 14 months and 17,000+ miles since making this video and it's performed amazingly! During that time it survived 11 months of rough roads and giant speed bumps (topes) in Mexico, as well as a ton of washboard forest service roads while we were camping in Colorado last summer. I guess I need to make an update video, lol. I have made minor adjustments to the Mototote setup since posting this video. 1) I flipped the load direction from drivers side of the RV (shown in this video) to passenger side. Personal preference but for me loading the bike with it on the right side of my body felt more natural. 2) I added the Canyon Dancer 2 bar harness to keep tension off the throttle when I tighten up the ratchet straps. They make securing the xmax lightning fast too. I can literally have the scoot loaded and ready to fly in less than 5 minutes! Sorry for the rant but as you can tell I really enjoy my Mototote! - Dennis When you're ready to purchase your Mototote be sure to use our link you'll get 12% off and we will get a little something at no extra cost to you! 👇 🏍Get your Mototote Now! 🤯Save 12% off your order! 🚐 www.MotoTote.com/eatseerv

@badpants
@badpants 4 жыл бұрын
A small motorcycle trailer is the way to go, and I'll give you a few months to figure that out for yourself. First off, you're damn close to the MAX tongue weight, and that was before you extended the hitch. By extending the hitch, you increased the torque created by that weight on the hitch mounting points. THAT IS BAD!!! Reinforcing the hitch does not help since the typical point of failure when overloading a hitch is at the mounting points. Watching you load that scooter I can see how much the carrier twists counter-clockwise as you start to load it. It will definitely be twisting back and forth as you drive around and hit bumps and potholes. Will you have a catastrophic failure? Probably not. Still, these types of carriers work best with light dirt bikes, and people still have issues with them. Did you even consider how much this reduces your maximum cargo weight, especially with your renovations?
@EatSeeRV
@EatSeeRV 4 жыл бұрын
Hi John, thanks for your concerns. We have thought about our cargo carrying capacity and the max tongue weight. We aren't having any issues with swaying nor do we think it will fail. It's holding up well so far, with bumps and potholes. We'll let you know if anything changes. - Liz

Thoughts on getting tickets for obscured license tag?
@EatSeeRV
@EatSeeRV 4 жыл бұрын
The thought has definitely crossed my mind. I've asked a few folks that have been carrying bikes this way for a while how they feel & the general consensus is, it's rare to be stopped for this and usually doesn't result in a ticket if you're lucky enough to be stopped for it. While that's comforting to hear, I don't like to give law enforcement any reasons to pull me over. I've spoken with Mototote and they are planning to release a tag relocation bracket that will attach to the end of the receiver tube. This should be available by June 2020. Untill then I'll have my fingers crossed,lol. I could definitely DIY a relocation bracket for cheap. But, I have my lazy pants on right now and would rather just order it from Mototote when it becomes available. What are your thoughts on the matter? - Dennis 🧐

Just curious how the carrier has performed for you. I recently purchased a class b RV on 2019 Sprinter chassis. I'm looking to tote around my 2019 Honda CRF450L, which I suspect weighs just under 300 lbs. While I have the traditional hitch under the regular class b sprinters where it sticks out a bit, my concern is the handlebars hitting the rear glass window.
@EatSeeRV
@EatSeeRV 4 жыл бұрын
The Mototote is performing extremely well for us! Couldn't be happier! Since this video we've taken it deep into Central and Eastern Mexico for the last 5 months. Plenty of really rough roads and random speed bump hits that I was surely thinking something would fail, either the carrier or the hitch. But, no. The MotoTote and hitch are still right and tight! The Mototote MTX Sport (the tote we have) can handle up to 600lbs, so your bike should be no problem for it. The weak point considering weight will be your RVs "tongue weight capacity" of the hitch installed. The weight of the Mototote plus the bike should not exceed the tongue weight capacity number! Double check the sticker on your hitch but, most RVs I'm familiar with have a tongue weight capacity of usually 400lbs. The tote weighs 63lbs plus your bike 300lbs = 363lbs. So I'm pretty sure you're good to go with that combo! Look at the specs on the M3 though, that might also be a good fit for you CRF450L. Speaking to the bars hitting the back window. The receiver tube is adjustable out to 20" from the pin hole to the bikes center line. But, if you need a bit more space Mototote sells a longer receiver tube that will allow you to move the center line up to 31" away from the pin to clear the back of the vehicle and prevent contact from happening! I have to watch out when I load our scooter because the roof access ladder on our RV sticks out far enough that it will smack the mirror on the xmax if I'm not careful. Other than that, I'm really glad I ordered the LED light kit as well because the xmax completely covers all my brake lights and blinkers when it's on the tote. It's kind of long winded. But, I hope this helps! If you have any more questions let me know. - Dennis ✌️ PS - When you decide to purchase your Tote please be sure to use our link. 🤩 You'll get 12% off your order, plus it helps us put fuel in the tank! www.mototote.com/eatseerv

@EatSeeRV
@EatSeeRV 3 жыл бұрын
Hi tjonessc, Sorry for the slow reply. I'll send him a message and see if he is cool with me giving out his info. In the meantime here are some thoughts to consider. Your TW200 weighs 278 + 60 (Mototote) = 338 pounds My Pulse is an '08 and the stock hitch tongue weight rating was 350 pounds before we beefed it. Double check your hitch ratings of course, but your bike and the Mototote together are 10% less than the max tongue weight I suspect your RVs hitch is rated for. I almost bought a TW before I got the Xmax you saw in the video. If I had gone with the lighter TW I wouldn't have bothered beefing the hitch. Instead Mototote sells an "extended hitch connection" bar specifically for recessed hitches, like what's on our pulse, that will give you the adjustability needed to push the bike out beyond your roof access ladder. The reason I beefed our hitch is because the xmax alone weighs 397 pounds so I was well over the hitch rating right off the bat not even counting the carrier! Just food for thought. - Dennis Don't forget to use our link when you're ready to get yours. It doesnt look like the back wheel is tied down. Is that how you roll on the highway?
@EatSeeRV
@EatSeeRV 3 жыл бұрын
No way! I use an Ancra wheel tie on the back rim. It's like a small tension strap that loopss through the rim spokes and around the Mototote platform bar then cinches down tight with a pull. A lot of folks use ratchet straps on the front as well as the rear. IMHO ratchet straps on the rear are overkill but you definitely need something securing the back to keep the wheel from hopping / shifting around in and possibly off of the carrier. My setup looks like this 👇 Mototote MTX Carrier + LED Light kit (must have as the bike covers rear lights on RV) Front) Canyon Dancer 2 Bar harness + Pair of Ancra ratchet straps Rear) Ancra wheel tie Hope this helps and I left some additional advice/update info on your other comment. - Dennis

Looks nice but how big a bike can you carry? 600 lbs doesnt seam like too big? No tow vehicle with this?
@EatSeeRV
@EatSeeRV 4 жыл бұрын
Well, I think the question that should be asked is how much does the bike you have or are planning to purchase weigh? If the answer is less than 600lbs, the "carrier" can handel it. But, 600lbs is "to big" for most hitches on the majority of vehicles. A Class III hitch usually only has 500lbs of maximum tongue weight capacity. The 500lbs will be the weight of the carrier (60lbs not 70lbs like I said in the video) & bike combined! We do not want to tow anything with this rig. The length of our 5th wheel toy hauler hindered our travel style & was the biggest reason why we downsized! Adding a trailer to this rig would put us very near our previous length. Hope this helps! - Dennis ✌️
