How appropriate that you posted up this video. I'm taking my first novice school track day in November. I come from the cager world of drag racing and we had the same problem in the pit area. People hauling ass through the pit area (speed limit was 15 mph) and those that would unload from the trailer and just rev their junk and never make a pass. Thanks for the video. I always take something away from all of your vids! Simple and to the point!!!

Absolute truth - the loudest in the garage is the slowest out on track...

@motovudu Everything you said is all too common at trackdays. I think the TDO's should be doing more to educate the people that act like they're the only ones there. Keep up the good video's Simon.

Well said. The only thing I'd add is don't try to set your fasted lap near the end of the day. You are tired and can make mistakes and the last thing your want to do is crash at the end of the day. We use to call that 4 O'clock fever, I watch 3 guys run off the same corner trying to pass each other at the end of the session....

DeathsStalkerRVT This is usually correct, but not always. With new tyres, if you are still fit, the last run can be the fastest. But I agree that normally the last two runs should be approached rather leisurely. Who puts new tyres on for a last run? ...I do 😊

I agree with everything said. Just one point from an engineer. Small revs to warm up are not pointless. If the oil is cold and has a high viscosity, you need more pressure from the oil pump to get it „in the right places“. Ones the oil film has formed you are ok. So at least in theory, warming up the bike just in idle is not ideal because you run the risk of not forming an oil film as quick as you could. Great Video nonetheless! 👍🏼

Rubbish. No one is running single grade engine oil. Anyone doing a track day is putting quality oil in their bike, and anyone with a race motor where warm up is more critical, they are running a lighter weight fully synthetic oil specifically for the job. Look at the warm up cycles that are mapped in to bikes electronics these days. They would only just rev to 4-5K on bikes that rev 15K plus rpm. And that's more than adequate and not anywhere near being annoying.

Richie Rich exactly, look at the warm up cycles. They are not just idleing, instead they run small revs, just as I said. 🤦🏻‍♂️

@@aiya1816 So why bother posting that nonsense in the first place ?? You're challenging him by agreeing with him ?? He's talking about not being that guy who warms up their bike by screaming it through the rev range and bouncing it off the limited. Just warm it up just over idle. You're claiming that's not ideal. Which is rubbish.

Richie Rich interesting conversation... Simon said you can warm up the bike just in idle. I explained why (at least in theory) you should use small revs. You disagree and say you should use small revs. 😂 To me it looks like you are challenging me by agreeing whith me. 😅
