I agree, 3 cylinder engines were there for a while. But they were hatchbacks with budget price. Now the issue is the 3 cylinder engines are sold for almost 25Lakhs with larger vehicles. How can I spend so much for a 3 cylinder engine? If they bring down the price it would have been considered but I will not shortlist or even try test drive a 3 cylinder engine.

I think the market is going towards update of vehicles after 5 years... So maybe the manufacturers are considering it as a welcome change and the reliability of cars is only extended till maybe 7 years max now.... So that they can either sell more cars or they can sell more replacement parts.... 3 cylinders might make more sense in this case also for manufacturers...

3 cylinder is imbalanced fire system. the Fire order is 1-2-3 means at every 120 deg two pistons will reach top dead center to burn the fuel. while one piston will be touched bottom dead center. Thus it makes more vibration, so you need a balancer shaft or other means to reduce vibration, which in turn takes a hit on the reliability front on the vibration alone , and the balancer shaft itself saps a bit of power , And these three pot turbos are fuel sensitive they need high octane for less knocking And since the three pot turbos produces power only through the turbo , the 3 cylinder by itself does not produces enough power , thus dependent on the turbo for it And since these three cylinders have more moving parts , they are naturally more prone to fail than the 4 cylinders

Diesel engines have been out since people started accepting petrol. Companies began making petrol cars instead of trying R&D in Diesel engines. The life span of old engines is higher than these. So the upcoming generation is not going to have good engines with reliability. One good example is Innova - Even after Toyota stopped Innova, People made a demand for Innova and now Toyota is back with Innova. If we accept 3 cylinders, then no more 4 cylinders. If we accept Petrol, No more Diesel still some people love to drive Diesel. I doubt that if the norms say that no more CO2 should be released from engines, then where will we go? Neengha sollura old cars ooda feel innemae vara pora generation is not going to enjoy. All because of these norms. Old bikes have more power than the new bikes. innemae antha feel ku engha povom. I just cant understand the same Nissan company can produce 4 cylinder Xtrail for other countries and Nations but not for us.

Worst thing is the idiots that tax manufacturers and us are flying off in Airplanes with friends and families often like it will not affect emission norms. I wish every manufacturer takes a stand like Toyota and first achieve Hybrid (recently informed BYD Shark - 4 Cyl/battery with turbo which is a UTE car competiting directly with Ford Ranger Raptor) before jumping on EV wagon. What they (manufacturers) going to do after the next norms, cut one more cylinder and add twin turbo? I heard the cut was for cost cutting, but then they added turbo to it and increased the cost for consumers. They're ready to increase airports and airplanes across the country but dare say, we, the common guys pollute the country more than they do. It's a bunch of BS bro. Manufacturers should ask them to fly in electric planes. Some studies even concluded that battery cars do more harm to environment than petrol cars. Don't worry guys, petrol and diesel are not going to go out for next 20 to 30 years. I'm saying that because a friend of mine working in a oil mill in Arab country said "Even if they stop extracting oil now, we will have gas for next 20 years, that's how much is saved in barrels". And that's not even the top 10 oil mining company there. And Ambani/Adani has investments in it too.

Vehicle performance is best but service very poor .service cost is very high (fuel filter price 11000,break pad price each 10000,lower arm 11000).authorised service engineers knowledge is very poor So Nissan concentrate service side in CBU vehicles

Reducing a cylinder is purely a cost reduction effort by the manufacturer. But it will have a major impact on the noise and vibration. Obviously, they spend more money to curb these two parameters. Just think about the high end cars and SUVs. They all have V6, V8 and even V12 engines.

The tsi is one of the best three cylinders in the market , but again in a comparative terms a NA will last longer than a three pot , and again the yesr years tsi is not today's tsi. They have reduced the quality And there have been turbo failures in tata and Mahindra ones , plus Hyundai ones are notorious for bad mileage when pushed As for the VWs tsi , now at 14 lakhs I get a bigger 1.5 NA with better features , why would I buy a three pot tsi ?
