@Kirby Kipling right, it most certainly can be insignificant at times. And then on the other side of the coin, you have the cursed and downright revolting homeliness of Diane Ernestine's appearance, I don't think too many people were shocked when they discovered that Diane Ernestine had resorted to backstabbing her childhood friends and pawning her slit for hits in Motown's Master bedroom suite. Her lack of physical beauty (combined with her lack of inner beauty) was likely the most devastating factor which contributed to her miserable behavior towards people. But with the right makeup and lighting, sometimes Miss Ross looked quite attractive. In those instances, I doubt that any 4-legged wildebeest wouldn't be PROUD to look like just her. And I can't get over the striking resemblance in the 👀 eye sizes and similarly long eyelashes. They say everybody's got a twin walking around somewhere. Although Miss Ross's twins tend to ROAM around somewhere.

@punkanellylovejoy702
@punkanellylovejoy702 3 жыл бұрын
@@Jhmmmy yes they were performing or rehearsing on a stage somewhere (tensions between the girls were probably at it's peak during this time) and during the performance, one of Florence's earrings fell off and hit the floor and Diane accidentally stepped on it and broke it. As soon as they got backstage, Florence lit into Diane, physically attacking her with such ferocity that it took more than one person to pry the plus-size Florence aloose from whatever part of Diane's little scrawny anatomy she had latched herself onto.
@punkanellylovejoy702
@punkanellylovejoy702 3 жыл бұрын
@@Jhmmmy tensions were high at this time and Florence was rightfully furious at how they were being shoved into the background at every turn in order to make miss Ross stand out. When you have this so called"star quality" that the Motown myth machine has attributed to Ms Ross in her ability to make the supremes a success due to her lack of soul or gospel in her voice, you don't have to push others into the background for a star to do it's shining. Every step that Motown took in trying to make Florence and Mary almost invisible was simply done so that this person with "star quality"could stand out. As the other two got as much attention from the fans as the lead singer. So what is the reason to push these girls so far into the background? So that they wouldn't take away too much attention from a so called"Star-quality" performer, that's why. People liked to say that the other two couldn't sing 🤣 But we all know how beautifully the 3 harmonized together because we heard it with our own ears. So then tell me what was the purpose of muting their mics as Motown occasionally did? I'll tell you why?! So that this person with so called star quality could stand out above and beyond the rest. She was FORCED to stand out. In interviews she spoke alone for the entire group as if Mary and Florence were not apart of the group. On stage is where it was so easy to see how despicably and desperately Motown had become in order to make Diane Ross stand out. And oh boy, when the name change came, it must have felt like highway robbery to the other two. Cuz they knew that it was just another stunt to shove miss Ross down our throats in order to make her stand out. Star quality? Ha! There's star quality and then there's star inequality. When you have to commit such shameful acts to make someone stand out above the rest, that's more star inequality than anything else. And someone at Motown (ESPECIALLY miss Ross) obviously knew that she had it: star-inequality

The Andantes also sang on "Love Child" and "I'm Living in Shame" without Mary and Cindy. So don't go sayin' that they were on most of the Supremes songs, at least the HIT songs by the Supremes because that's bull. Yes, the Andantes were Motown's studio backup session singers that sang on hundreds of Motown recordings by all of its stable of artists, except for the Temptations, the Andantes only sang on one of their earlier recordings, I think it was "All I Need" but David Ruffin put a stop to that because he said that the Tempts could not replicate female voices when they took the songs out on the road and toured.

I saw this when it aired and to this day I think of this finale 4:18 with the various artists coming on to the stage and Diana greeting them, the epitome of femininity, elegance and beauty. The way she kisses, hugs and the occasional leg lift as she embraces someoneone. She kisses Richard. The way she calls out Michael's name, then embraces Marvin. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE how she speaks to Berry, then when he arrives on stage the full on embrace from some. Not a stupid fist bump or a hand clap and shoulder touch. I guess they have a place, but I don't know where. That night if there were any animosity among any of them, you couldn't tell; and if there were, I'm convinced it was squashed on that stage that night. I often think of this finale and occasionally watch it. I like seeing Diana. We don't have too many examples of women femininity. To me, Loretta Devine also embodies this type of femininity. Anyway, thanks for posting it. My heart is always overwhelmed and I tear up. It's such a beautiful moment at a once beautiful time, with some amazingly and wonderfully talented people. Thank you.

@April_Spring2015Yes it's true that Mary couldn't compete with Diana Ross in their beginning days as the Supremes: For some inexplicable reason, Mary could NEVER quite gap her legs open as wide as miss Ross was able to. Mary's performances lacked the agility and flexibility to compete with Ross. Mary could never outshine Diane Ernestine when it came to doing the twist, the bends, the splits, the headstand, the pony or the jerk in the Motown Master Bedroom Suite. Mary just wasn't able to compete with Diane Ernestine. But outside of a contortionist in a hor-house, who could? 🤔

I don't understand why they gave the Supremes the least amount of time on stage. Every other group, at least performed one song or more on stage. There is no mention of Florence Ballard either. This was the only Supremes Reunion we ever got, and it was only for a few seconds. They performed a song that Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong didn't have their vocals on. It was a good show, but the Supremes got the smallest amount of time on stage. Rest in peace to you, Florence Ballard, and Mary Wilson!❤

Hi , Mary gave an interview couple yrs ago and she cleared the situation. She accepted she basked in the pressure of others. She said that it was blown out of proportion a misunderstanding. That she wasn't to introduce Berry. it was Diana that she called out Berry and Diana went out touched her and said Mary it's been take care of . From the distance looked like Diana shoved her. That's when it all started.

@@carloscolon1916 not quite so. It was obvious that Mary still loved Diane and felt kinda bad about putting her on blast and wanted to try to heal the rift before they left this earth. Mary wanted peace between them and it's more than obvious she was simply playing it down. I once heard Mary say " I believe Diane accidentally grabbed my mic so roughly because she simply got caught up in the nervous excitement of the moment". 🤣 It was obvious that the publishing of that book had forced Diane to read and think about all the nasty stuff she did to hurt Mary. And that in itself helped to soothe Mary's pent up anger at the witch. Mary never said she made anything up that she wrote in that book. But it was sometimes obvious that she had lost all (or most) of her anger at Diane Ross in some interviews and couldn't bring herself to discuss some of the things she revealed in that book. But she never gave the impression that she made anything up.

As well as mary (rip) sang, she could never have done justice to this iconic song. That’s why the orchestra switched to only the chorus of this song. The back vocals were awesome when mary and cindy came on stage. Neither of the ladies were on the original release of the song. I’m glad they did appear. They were truly underrated. I remember when this first aired, Circa 1983. The grand final of The Supremes singing "Someday We'll Be Together, was priceless, as well as all those other Motown greats on stage for the grand finale! I'm only we didn't get to see people such as Barrett Strong( If he was still living at that time)The Contours, The Marvelettes, the Isley Brothers, etc. Sadly, one of the people whom helped Berry Gordy to found Motown Records, Jackie Wilson was still in a coma! And also, on a sadder note, I remember both Marvin Gaye & Jackie Wilson passed away in the same month! Also, I wonder if Martha & the Vandellas were on this Tribute Show? Nevertheless, a great show with fantastic performances, great memories, and a grand finale! I was born in 1957, and I grew up in East Harlem in The Projects, so I pretty much remember this music going back to 1963, Motown, and the "British Invasion", spear headed by The Beatles in 1964, as well as the other British Rock & Roll Groups!

I just watched the DVD version of this, and was very disappointed to see that the shots of Berry in the audience have been removed. When Diana sings the first line of "someday, we'll be together," she was singing it to him. And they exchanged the little fist-bump gesture. That was the most emotional part of the show, and now after 25 years of waiting for the DVD, it's been erased.

Well according to inside sources at Motown the fist part had to be removed because people became offended after being reminded that Berry and Diane were involved in fisting in the bedroom to satisfy Diane's insatiable greed. At Motown 25, she was secretly referring to their sex acts when she held her fist up to him.

If that's the case, then I can see why this stage reunion was very emotionally-charged and tempers were running high. The look between Mary & Cindy at 4:50 already told me they had a plan.
