People make such a big deal of Patti showing up Diana here, but there’s no sense at all that Diana was bothered. She actually looks to be enjoying Patti’s performance. Truth is that Diana’s performance is quite effective. Her delicate treatment feels introspective, like a woman who’s almost lost hope that she might find love. Patti’s is the declaration of a woman who is intent on finding love. Most humans will experience the desperation Diana communicates, and hopefully they will also feel the empowerment that Patti personifies. Very different takes, both equally valuable. Just depends on what the listener needs at any given time. There’s no denying the rare power Patti possesses, and yet it’s undeniable that few singers possess an ability to emotional inhabit a lyric the way Ross does. Patti can blow you away like being on a rollercoaster ride that thrills you, but she doesn’t invite you in. Diana can’t blow you away, but she can take your heart on an intimate, emotional journey. Enjoy them both.

If this is the same show I remember as a teen, she did it because she literally invaded Adam Ants performance which is a huge musician faux pas. At the end Patti handed her a** back to her. You have to be a musician to know just how wrong that was.

Don't get Diana confused. Y'all saying the crowd stood up once Patti started singing. Yet the crowd literally stood up the minute Diana entered the building lol. Diana has always been about that presence, that vibe, her phrasing. Very competent singer and smart woman. She gave a a beautiful intro to the song, she most likely had foresight that she'd hand over the mic. She knows what she's doing. (This is for those trying to diminish Diana Ross).

I know Patti tore it up. But Diana's vocal performance on that first verse is pure perfection. Sounds like it could have been her song. And she was apparently a little hoarse or tired.
@AlkalineInsides2 жыл бұрын
She actually flew in a little late by jet from a concert she had. It explains the hoarseness (which added a unique texture to her voice- I liked it). I think people have Diana confused. She is a very competent and creative singer. Beautiful tone, distinguishable voice that no one can duplicate. People that try to sound like her can never nail it. It only comes off as clownery.

Just another masterpiece from the 80's. Patti was just on another level and is one of my favorite artist!!!! Knowing what love truly is, is loving God, His son Jesus, and His Holy Spirit. God richly blessed me with a beautiful woman 39 years ago. He joined us together in marriage. We are deeper in love now than ever. We so enjoy listening to the 70s & 80s music. Especially this song while out cruising in the exotic speed machine I bought her a few months ago, simply because I love her, respect her, and really like her. Its amazing that she still looks hotter than her car, and I don't mind that kind of problem! She is timeless! On top of that we have 7 adult children and our 5th grandchild due soon. I am the most blessed man alive!!!!!

Pattie for the longest is a beast when it comes to vocal ability and sheer output! Pattie vocally in her prime was in her late 40's upwards to 60 yrs, like most of her peers Tina, Aretha, Gladys etc.... if you stop and think today i cannot count on my hand 1 that can blow , show up and show out today in the same comparison or dynamic. Patti is like a thunderstorm, you can feel the rumblings of something before its hits you outright full force. Same with Chakah Khan when I have seen her, before she cane on stage but warming into set it was electrifying. ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
