Fun fact: In the books when Crowley and Aziraphale give Anathema (the love of Danny's life) a ride in the car, she feels unsafe until Crowley calls Azirphale "angel", implying that she thinks they're together

I’m gonna make you love that plant scene even more: 1. Crowley’s acting out the way he was parented on his own plant kids. Screw up one time, you’re doomed to the pit/garbage disposal. Break one rule and you’re literally expelled from the garden. 2. The book (but not the show so I’m not considering this a spoiler) eventually reveals Crowley does not destroy the plants but instead fakes their dramatic deaths then takes them to an old lady in his building who’s really great with nursing plants back to health.

This is going to be so pedantic, but it’s not actually mentioned what he does with the plants in the book. Neil Gaiman tweeted that Crowley turned the shredder on to frighten the plants and then gave them to an old lady downstairs, but this was in response to a parent telling him their seven year daughter was upset by the scene. It does seem in character for Crowley, but it is ultimately a head canon, and I believe Neil Gaiman has specifically said he left it up to the interpretation of the reader. However, while the scene in the show was pretty much taken line for line from the book, there is a notable difference. In the book it doesn’t say that he shreds the plants, or even that the sound of a shredder is heard. It simply says that “he would leave the flat with the offending plant, and return an hour or so later with a large, empty flower pot, which he would leave somewhere conspicuously around the flat.” That seems to be the right amount of time to pop downstairs, have a nice chat and a cup of tea with an old lady and help re-pot a plant. So I’m inclined to go with the idea that Crowley did give the plants to the old lady in his flat, but it is ultimately just a headcanon!

The show doesn't explain that the prophecies aren't in any chronological order or order of importance. This is the main reason why the characters have so much trouble deciphering them. They have to figure out what year they are for, as well as decode the final meaning.

And also, not to downplay Neil Gaiman's contribution to good omens, but whenever the two described the partnership they said that Terry brought the humour and Neil brought the seriousness - its a collaborative story. It's also was mentioned that Terry typed up 60-70% of the original book - and especially for people who know Pratchett's work - a lot of the world building and the wacky shenanigans are such staples of his writing that it's very sad that it goes overlooked.

But it is sadly a fact that he isn't as generally popular as Gaiman is. Mainly because he focused it all on Discworld, which has a very specific humor that does not appeal to everyone, so if someone doesn't like discworld, they pretty much won't read his work. Gaiman is much more versatile and thus, has an easier time reaching different audiences. ( I say this as a massive Sir Pterry and Disworld fan. I also have the feeling he might not be very well know in America in general)

@@dajtoad1 In an interview it was stated that Terry wrote most of Agnes Nutter and the Them while Neil did most of the Four Horsemen stuff, but they did also swap characters a fair bit. In the end they both had written at least some of the final story for every major character. Elizabeth Callaway did a fun style analysis on Good Omens to find out who wrote what and found that, while each had large chunks that were strongly theirs, the influence of both authors truly was present over the entirety of the book. Funnily enough, she tested her program against Terry's novel Moving Pictures and found traces of Neil's style in there, which she thought was just noise... until Neil Gaiman tweeted that he'd actually given Terry input on Moving Pictures, which her program had picked up on.

No. They wrote it 50/50, although their writing overlapped as they read each other’s sections and contributed jokes. Neil can’t even remember clearly which bits were his and which Terry’s. ETA now my comment looks like it makes no sense, as OP has amended their original comment!

It's such a fantastic story. Neil Gaiman worked directly with Sir Terry Pratchett to make Good Omens. They used to meet for lunch dates and talk about their ideas for the story together and were very, very close friends. The novel is fantastic and the show sticks quite accurately to the original story, and if you're a reader you should absolutely look into the Discworld novels by Sir Terry Pratchett. They're hilarious, socially aware and very progressive.
@SkillsLoading

According to Gaiman, he had the idea about the anti-christ being in an idealic English village, but didn't really know what to do with it. So he sent the idea he had to a few friends. Terry Pratchett (who Gaiman greatly respected) got back in touch and said "I think I know what happens next. Do you want to work on it togther?" Gaiman describes the experience as "The closest Im ever going to get to painting a cieling with Michael Angelo." GNU Terry Pratchett, you changed the world of fantasy and you are greatly missed.
@SkillsLoading
@SkillsLoading Ай бұрын
Context as you didn't know who Sir Terry was in the video. Pratchett created a fantasy communication system where the code GNU means to keep passing the message up and down the system forever. In the same world it is believed that a man is never truly dead while his name is still spoken, so having your name sent with this code is a form of spiritual immortality. So Sir Terry's fans have made it the default tribute to him.

I also don't know how much influence Neil Gaiman had as opposed to Sir Terry Pratchett, but I can tell you, Terry was insane at creating weird alternative worlds and stories that would sound bonkers to describe. He wrote around 42 books set in a Discworld (meaning a flat world) that's placed atop four Giant Elephants who stand on an even bigger Giant Turtle called Great A'Tuin. The opening monologue of Good Omens sounds EXACTLY like any normal introduction of a Discworld novel. Idk if you're into reading but SIR TERRY PRATCHETT KNEW HOW TO HAVE A PARTY. RIP King

I love this show so much. Crowley is my sad boi favorite. When this first came out, people were writing their interpretations on the characters actions. And one of my favorite interpretations is Crowley's open hostility towards his plants and demanding perfection and 'casting out' the ones that are imperfect is his way of coping with him being cast to hell for being an imperfect angel by simply being himself, just like how its natural for plants to have wilty spots. Which broke my heart. And Azeriphel's chaotic book shop is his way of distancing himself from the sterility and strict order of heaven. These characters are so tragic and so amazing and I love them so much and I am so excited for season 3 and can't wait for what they have planned. It will be just absolutely bonkers

Niel Gaiman and Terry Pratchett wrote Good Omens. Niel Gaiman wrote the more creepy, disturbing bits, the serious notes, and Terry Pratchett is a much more whimsical, quirky writer, generally. Together, its a masterpiece. There is no second book, Terry Pratche5t died before it could be written. However, the second season, which Niel Gaiman helped direct, is based on his and Pratchett's plans for the second book. Terry Pratcher was a glorious writer, very satirical while fun and deeply meaningful. His metaphors are legend. He was knighted for his writing. I highly recommend his books, especially the Discworld series!
