Danny not knowing about the Reign of Terror that came after the French Revolution is so funny to me for some reason. Like yeah, the revolution was sick as hell. For about 5 minutes until the guy in charge went mad w power and started executing literally anyone who _might_ sympathize with the rich
@oq11065 ай бұрын
Yeah, the French Revolution is... something. It's more like a revolving door of factions gaining power, going mad with power, starting to kill first their enemies and then each other till they're ousted by the next faction. Until we get Napoleon Bonaparte who decides the solution to the "to King or not to King" question is "none of you are thinking big enough"

Or the whole Bastille Day thing, which I still have trouble with the concept of celebrating the day the citizens "liberated" the prison by letting all the prisoners out, murderers, rapists, etc. and then watched in glee as those people then slaughtered almost everyone else inside the prison, including other prisoners. Walking the city wearing black? You must be clergy - KILL. Wearing anything fashionable / not dirty tatters - KILL. It was freaking horrible.

Fun fact about the French Revolution: by 1793 (when the scene is set), the Revolution was less about the lower classes (which in pre-revolution France was quite literally everyone other than the aristocrats and the clergy) rising up against the upper classes and more about the National Convention (a goverment at this point basically controlled by 12 angry men who wanted to kill everyone who didn't agree with eveything Robespierre (guy in charge of the main political club) said) executing everyone who wasn't sufficiently revolutionary. Because the executioner fellow says he's executed some 199 people, I'd put it at around October - November because that's when the terror reached its most zealous in 1793 (it got worse the following year). For context, by November 1793 there were a truely ridiculous number of laws in place that meant if you even looked vaguely antirevolutionary you could be tried and executed, all churches had been fully closed and rededicated as Temples of Reason (part of what was essentially Robespierre's personal cult with him replacing God) and almost every major revolutionary figure who had previously been lauded as heroes had been tried and exectuted. All the major royalty had been executed, including the Duc d'Orleans, who had been instrumental in helping start the revolution just 4 years earlier. Aziraphale isn't on the wrong side of history here. By late 1793 the Revolution was just killing people for basically no reason other than Robespierre and the CPS's paranoia about someone overthrowing their dicatorship. Looking back on it this comment is quite long but it's factual so enjoy some history!

Lovely user Leslie Knieriem wrote as follows to the fans: Aziraphale had known Crowley at this point for over FOUR THOUSAND YEARS. The notion that Crowley might not be "still a demon" would have been idiotically nonsensical. Except... This Roman meeting was 8 years after Golgotha -- where Aziraphale had heard Crowley speak sympathetically about Jesus. (Note, A & C probably hadn't met in the meantime) Aziraphale may have been in Rome to help the fledgling Christian community there. A community that tradition says was founded by Peter. Whose successor, Clement, was a mentor to Origen. Who taught that the sacrifice of Christ meant that ALL would be redeemed, including Satan himself. (Origen got into Big Trouble for this, posthumously) So, Aziraphale may have had some familiarity with teachings of Universal Redemption. Which was not an exclusively Christian notion either - there are Muslim traditions of Ifrits (demons) being converted by Muhammad's preaching. All of which is to say, Aziraphale might have had some justification to entertain right then a faint wistful hope that Crowley was NOT, in fact "still a demon". Which he desperately would have wanted at that point in their relationship. And Crowley would have KNOWN this. And would probably have been extremely hurt by Aziraphale's daydreams of this sort, leading to his bitter reply. (n.b. I have heard that "aardvarks" symbolize "a guilty conscience" but have not been able to verify)

17:30 Hello Danny, I've been raised religious and know a lot of Bible stories, so I figured I'd let you know that actually heaven and the angels were created first. Then once a group of angels lead by Lucifer rebelled against God, they were thrown into hell as punishment. After that is when earth and humans were made. Hell was never actually made for humans because they were supposed to be able to just live eternally in the garden of Eden but then the whole Adam and Eve story happened and yeah. Hope that makes sense sorry it's long😩

Keep in mind the series was based on a book that is now 34 years old & has had a huge, dedicated cult following for decades. And by cult following, I mean tightly knit groups of friends who met over the words "What do you mean you've never read Good Omens? Here, this is why I always carry a paperback copy & keep my signed hardcover copy at home under lock & key. Take this & read it, you can thank me later. Don't worry about returning it, just pass it on to someone worthy." This has also been known to occur with copies of Frank Herbert's Dune & the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Of all the things I could be jealous of, The Success, The Hair, The Loving Relationship... The thing I am most jealous of is Danny's comment section, He never fails to mention how civil and polite his comment section is, and that is something I hope to have someday. We all make mistakes, we all have situations turn on us, but to have a group of people that will gently let us know when things have gone wrong, instead of attacking us for not knowing, is genuinely a great gift to have. I can only aspire to have as great a community.

Some asexual people do experience sexual desire (as opposed to sexual attraction) and some do engage in sexual behavior with others. In addition, neither the book nor the series states whether or not either A or C cared to "make an effort" (as the book states) to have the ability to have sex.

@mysteryglitch Spoilers are hinting at the storyline of a movie/show/video game/etc. Implying there is something big incoming is ruining the impact that big thing will have. Then he's expecting something huge to come up, so it changes how he watches the series.

@elaineschultz39505 ай бұрын
The actors playing AZ & Crowley BECAME good friends while filming GO. They were really just acquaintances before filming started. I think that needs saying because Sheen and Tennant are actually exceptional actors, and probably would have given this same performance if they ended up hating each other. But I'm thrilled at the friendship that developed, and it makes the GO fandom deeper.

Two weeks ago today, a group of attendees from the nearby Ineffable Con travelled to Hambleden - the village in which the Tadfield scenes were filmed. While there, we were collectively yelled at by an R.P. Tyler clone and, I'm presuming, his wife. They loudly complained about us not respecting the sabbath by... -checks notes- dressing weird and standing quietly in a line. I don't think a single person had a costume that wasn't made up of regular clothes, minus one top hat. Our bus drivers took it in turns to go behind the buses to laugh. I laughed so hard I cried. Anyway, we're writing a musical about it now.
