One more very specific idea, because of the bee. In the Jewish holidays Rosh Ha'shana, which is like Jewish new years, there's a custom of eating slices of apple dipped in honey. It could be a gorgeous honey dish for that! You can write Shana Tova ve'metuka (which means, have a good and sweet year) on it.

EDIT: I have now removed the part of the VO. This is not to hide my accountability on this issue but rather to prevent triggering more individuals from the comment made about loving HP in this episode. Hello my loves, I need to address something in this weeks VO that I did not fully reflect on or have an extensive knowledge in. This week I mention Harry Potter and my love for this series stating ‘you are lying to yourself if you don’t like Harry Potter’. At the time of making this comment I was unaware of the extensive and problematic behaviour of the author of the books. I have personally never read the books, and had always associated HP with the movies causing a disassociation of the issues of the authors views from my views of the movies. Thank you to all the beautiful lovely souls that have been so brave in making me aware of how deeply entrenched Rowling’s views extend not only into the series but into impacting the human rights of our beautiful Transgender community. I wanted to sincerely apologise for this comment in the VO for being triggering for the Trans community. I want to apologise for supporting this series as I was unaware that by watching the series was supporting programs that have taken away human rights from the Trans gender community. I really do try my best to be around issues all the time but this one I wasn’t fully knowledgeable in and I should have done better. I will be boycotting all mention of HP in future content and I will not be doing the HP art ideas in any capacity to avoid funding more hateful programs that dehumanise valuable and loved members of our community. I am so sorry. I feel absolutely awful for not being aware but thank you for bringing it to my full attention. If I have mentioned or said anything else that is harming your community, please politely mention it to me so I can do research and expand my knowledge. I try my best to be inclusive in all areas but I also will never be exposed to the same news, events and networks as all of you and vice versa. Please approach with empathy and kindness as the last thing I want is for you to not feel valued, safe and supported to watch my content and be in this beautiful world. I also want to give myself humility and grace for not being fully aware all of the time due to my own exposure and lived experiences. Please be kind, show love and please know you are all so loved and valued here. Sending my love, Shelby

As a beekeeper, we have shallow dishes with rocks in it. The rocks are tall enough (or piled up enough) that the water can't cover them. This way the bees have something to land on and it gives tons of access points for the bees. Small rocks piled above the water line is what I like best.

Bees have a terrible habit of finding the most dangerous water source to drink from! They like to drink from deeper/cooler water, also they love chlorine in swimming pools. Once they find a water source they share the knowledge about it and will continue to use it even when other sources are offered.The best thing you can do to keep bees from drowning is make a floatation device or 'ladder' in the water source they are familiar with. Putting floating wine corks or a brick standing up in the water works really well! (Beekeeper here!)
@ShelbySherritt2 жыл бұрын
Ahhh thank you so so much!! You are so kind and your advice is so insightful. I didn’t think of the temperature as something that would impact their decision to find the water source! Maybe a deeper dish next time with some ceramic doodas in it for them to land on so the water stays cool!? Also what are your thoughts on the sugar water tip that everyone is sharing about!?
@mccunejillian2 жыл бұрын
@@ShelbySherritt You are lovely! I am always in awe of your kindness and thoughtfulness, it was the least I could do to help your beautiful native bees! Sugar water can absolutely bee helpful, as is lemongrass oil. Once you attract the bees to the water source they will continue to use it. Sugar water will sour quickly, especially in the heat. So refresh often and only use it until the bees are established. A deeper casserole like dish or larger pool of water would work perfectly. (I'm envisioning the crab dish!) Could you possibly leave parts of the ceramic bee doodas unglazed so they can get a better grip? As long as they are above the water level? We are in a very hot climate as well and we have a 100 gallon water trough that is planted with water plants and filled with cinder block steps. It is a bee oasis!

Another way to make a bee watering dish is to fill a deep dish with colorful marbles and then pour in water until it cover about two thirds of them. Rather than using dark black for antiquing, I wonder how a dark brown would do instead? Black desaturates colors, so it drives down the vibrancy of the color palette, where as brown might warm them instead. Brown might also lend to a more "nature" style aesthetic, where as black feels a little sooty and industrial.
@ShelbySherritt2 жыл бұрын
That is such a perfect way to explain it ‘sooty’ it’s like it’s been in a chimney ahahhaha! But yes, because Black brings out the grey side of things where as brown brings out the warmer tones. You could place a photo in the center well and epoxy it in, then string wire on the back so you can hang your picture frame plate. Love the HP idea.

I love how they turned out, I kind of felt that ick too, but then when I saw them all together it went away and it's like they're from an era that hasn't happened yet. Like a time traveller bought them back from the future, after the 'event'.

You can make a ring and jewelry holder with them. Like, attached something in the middle for the rigs to slide on.

Love it! Such a creative idea!

I was one who was having a heart attack when you went in with the black, lol! But of course, it's beautiful 😍

I guess this would make great door signs/ name tags or a deco element to hang on the door. I can picture three of them hanging, with different motiv but same theme like beach, animals, flowers, gaarden or kind of. Have so many idea already

For these plates, I feel like you could cut out the circle and make it into an adorable picture frame. But the bee water dish is so cute!

My first thought when you opened this mould was "trinket dish!" I think you could leave them as they are, maybe with some encouraging mantras on them or you could add something to the center as a ring holder

I feel like this could also be a good saucer for a tea bag. Not sure what the proper name is, but you know when you take your tea bag out of the cup, and don’t have a bin around to throw it straight away. You can put the tea bag on one of these super tiny plates.

I really liked these before firing.🤣 (sorry) Seriously though thankyou for posting such beautiful art each week. You videos are so wholesome. I love it. Makes me feel so good. ❤

Don’t be sorry! The power of art is some people will like it, some people will not! No need to apologise! Heheh! I am still on the fence about antiquing in this way but I’m glad I tried it for knowledge and skill growth. I love the way they look but feel the black made them a little on the dark side and took away the playfulness of them!

Aww this was a great mould! I love bees and love so much how you wanna help them! I'll have to get similar plates/bowls to do the same thing in my backyard 😄🐝

I don’t think the bee will scare them off… I know if you place a fake hive it will deter them from building a hive near your house!!! (I’m phobic of bees and wasps, so I look this stuff up!) But these are very cute!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ As for ideas for the plates, do you have any metallic glazes? They remind me of those fancy tea sets with the gilding on them!!!

Amazing! Thank you so so much! That is really interesting to know!! I do have gold lustre which would look so beautiful on these!

The bee could also attract other bees, showing them it's safe. Some plants do that to attract insects.

I love bees. So for me those would make a cute ring or jewelry dish. Not sure if they could be used for hummingbirds. They need a shallow place to access water.

Shelby I would also make a soap dish out of this mini saucer. Just put a water related little pet on the rim and paint it blue for the middle. A seashell or a frog, a tiny dolphin or any fish would do. or even a tiny light house with a boat. The possibilities are endless. Or make it classic: white in the middle and the frilly rim in gold.

I'm really loving the muted colour palette, it's really classy with a cute bee twist!

A little plate for egg shell when you eat boiled eggs or for reuseable teabags to put them there when your tea is ready

Love the idea of the Umbridge kitten plates! Maybe if the mini teacups come up you could do Alice and Wonderland theme. You could do characters, or favorite scenes, or the Golden afternoon flowers!

If you place a sponge 🧽 that is supposed to help water insects such as butterflies 🦋 and bees 🐝.

I thought I recognized these, so I checked, they match the plate from mould 21. I hope you find the matching tea cup somewhere, so you can have a set of cup, saucer, and cake plate!

I think, and I’m not a potter I do bead jewellery, I would have avoided doing blue flowers and rims so I could do blue antiquing. To me, that would have given the pieces a Water look, especially around the base of the Bees. Hi from Brisbane 👋🏻👋🏻

Love the idea of a bee dish! The black isn't my favourite. Looks a bit dirty to me. Is it possible to get rid of that stark black underside of the bee? With a clean brush or something? Hope it's ok to give this opinion. Other than that i love it! The colours, the antiquing itself. Looking forward to the kitty-plates ;) Also: would love to know if the bees drink on them 🥰
@ShelbySherritt2 жыл бұрын
Of course it’s ok to share that opinion. I am still very much on the fence with the antiquing this week! I love the finished product but I’m not 100% on the colours and the antiquing, and that’s not just because you have said so. I just don’t know if it works!? Like I think it does but then I look at it and I don’t like it again!? Ahahah so conflicted!! You are right, it does look dirty, someone below said it looks sooty even and I think that is the perfect way to describe it! I didn’t think to use a brush and now you have said it I feel silly that I didn’t think of that given the abundance of brushes I had in front of me whilst I struggled to get the black off ahahahhaha! Thank you for your ideas and thoughts. I feel like you guys are my arty sounding boards for ideas and techniques 🌸🌼😭🥺

Dont be so hard on urself! U are so creative, so inspiring, putting great work on display every week! U show an abundance of ideas each time and i love that u are so open and greatful to all the comments! Sometimes u gotta step away to get new ideas. I very well know the moment when u are so deep inside the process that otherwise obvious thoughts dont come to mind like with the brush. I think the black works very well on the bees. Its mostly the rim that is kinda odd to me. Maybe its because of the form aswell. Maybe it would tie in better if the peace had more edges to cling on. Who knows 🥰
