Only reason Sparta ever fell to Rome was due to the fact that Rome massively outnumbered them. Roman and Greek philosophers, generals, etc. stated that Sparta only ever feel from attrition, they would win every battle, often taking 10 Romans for every Spartan they lost but there were far far fewer Spartans than Roman soldiers (think less than 10k spartans vs the absolute mass of men that Rome would field)
