The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

That cemetery is fully of photos on the markers. Not all cemeteries are like that so that certainly makes this one special!

yes, Italian and Czech cemeteries traditionally have these porcelain ovals on most stones. On the other hand, Irish, German, and other European cultures -almost never. Bot now lately, it seems to be catching on with everyone, just in the last decade or two.

I use to work in a cemetery, those chips in the glass most likely came from rock being thrown from the mowers .

A shame about the cameos getting chipped, as I guess they are not cheap to produce or install. The covers seem mostly to stop them being chipped, broken or dislodged, although the cover Ron lifted in this video revealed a chip on the photo placed on the headstone. However, the photo on the inside of the cover looked fine. These cameos serve to keep the memory of the loved one fresh, when otherwise, with the passage of time, the image of the loved one would start to fade.

According to the newspaper I read online the Borsellino cousins were bootleggers, and owned a speakeasy in Cleveland. They were found in a parked car in a field outside of Cleveland. Both were bound, gagged and strangled, and stuffed in the turtle back of a buick coupe. Back in the 20's & 30's the trunk of the car was called a turtle back (luggage department) because it was shapped like a turtle shell.

This grave is my neighbors parents and brothers who died very young. Grandpa jack. Is here buried next to his wife and boys. They came from Italy moved to Morton grove Illinois. There two daughters and husbands are in the mausoleum across the street at queen of heaven. They lived on my block were I grew up on. There other son is buried a few rows down. He was in the navy he passed away in 1957. That’s great you went in so far. Thank you so much.

I admire the images along with the Funerary sculpture. The way Ron coneys a story is completely remarkable. The viewer becomes engrossed in the video while being drawn into the life story of an individual. A show of hands on an extended episode, such as a documentary, with our favorite Curator/Docent/Researcher/Architect & Pilot. Cannot wait for FOTF to get to 100,000 subscribers!!!! 🖐️

@@Regina0964 thank you. I really enjoy all of the episodes. Mount Carmel is an incredible location. I'm just happy wherever FOTF goes. @Faces of the Forgotten- Ron, maybe the damage to the images is possibly caused by lawnmowers kicking up rocks? Then again, nothing would shock me (the cemetery where my mother is buried was vandalized by local teens several years ago). Little Irene and the angel on her stone was gently dropping a lilly towards the ground. I need to find my notes on what the symbolism is referencing.

Maybe when you do these you can mention what section you are in. My grandparents and their two sons are buried here at Mount Carmel. They lost their one son with a heart problem at the age of 17 and then nine months later lost their 14 year old son to an accidental gunshot to the head at a wedding. My Mom said it was heartbreaking (these were her parents and brothers buried there). I think they are in section 11. The last name is Taormina, They also have a family grave like you have been showing with pictures. How tragic to lose two sons so young within 9 months of each other. I have many relatives buried here. They also lost a baby son at 9 months old. Mom thinks he had leukemia. She said he just withered away to nothing. He is buried in an unmarked grave there not to far from my grandparents and uncles. This was so many years ago. They are near the road I think in section 11. Every Sunday as a kid after mass my parents would take us here to visit all of the graves. My Dads parents are buried here too but have ground level flat stones. I am hooked on your channel btw.

Love the cemetery, the pictures on the headstone is really neat too. Being able to match a name with a photo of the actual person. Next time I go to the cemetery to place flowers on my mom's grave I'm going to walk around.

Those divots in the pictures are probably from stones kicked up by the lawnmower. Also if you look at the stone Carmen is the sailor. Not the woman next to him. Her name was Narda. She was likely Rosina's mother.
