The image artifacts and noise are a result of low light and not doing a black calibration before shooting. I expect to be getting some better footage as the weather improves!

I really like the high speed stuff you post. Not only are the creatures beautiful, but we get to see the mechanics of them - the eagle turning w/flight feathers etc, that dragonfly landing a few vids ago et al. Look forward to more!

Beautiful footage! I didn't know the birds wings came so far down to basically touch each other on each downstroke. Surprising flexibility.

Great stuff Nick. Loved the turkey vulture footage... Music rocked as well...

Thanks, they are one of my favorite seasonal birds and they aren't bothered much by people being nearby.

Very cool! But what r all those tiny black dots?Something on the lense,or..?

I was in a hurry when I set up shooting that day and didn't do the "black calibration." The calibration takes care of fixed pattern noise that is present in all image sensors.

Awesome. I'd love to see what could be done with a computer tracking the motion. There are 'sentry gun' applications out there already which could be easily adapted. 0:55 tho, wow.

Ishikawa Senoo Laboratory demo'd a system a long time ago that used 2 mirrors on galvos to direct the filed of view of a high speed camera. They were able to track the motion of a ping pong ball during the game and of a yoyo with extremely high precision. I would love to try a system like that but it's way above my level.

Well, you seem to be doing pretty darned good the way it is anyway :)

Just wondering, what were those dark blue dots that were on the video?
@NickMoore6 жыл бұрын
The dots are noise because I neglected to do a black frame calibration before shooting.

Would it not be better with some color tweaks?

These shots came out of the camera encoded with h.264 so I can only push the exposure and colour so much. The camera has the ability to save raw video but it takes up to 20 min to save a clip and I didn't have enough remaining battery charge to do so. I will be building a portable power pack for the camera very soon so I will be able to save raw video and get much higher quality video.

Yikes...that's a macabre looking thing.

The turkey vultures aren't too pretty but the way they fly is interesting. They almost never flap once they are up.
