I was the piano player at the inn when you guys climbed the mountain, so you guys might have heard me. Super impressive!

Wow, I remember a young handsome piano player in the lobby the night before our summit bid. I don't know the song, but It was some blues or jazz song, I think. We loved the song and the piano music in the lobby. Did you have a college fund jar beside you, by the way? Great to meet you virtually!
@willcarlen9301 Жыл бұрын
@@dhchoi11 I did have a college fund😂 this is so funny. Glad you enjoyed the music! I’ll be back there next summer playing again. Are you guys going to summit this summer too? I am looking for people to try it with. I have no mountaineering experience, but I run ultra marathons and can hike really fast. Made it to camp muir in 2hrs with a pack once.

A friend and I did this in 1979 from Paradise. This was pretty normal for the time but it was a grunt. There must have been 60 people on the summit and it was a Monday. Then we drove to Yakima drinking Rainier beer.

Wow, that's amazing. I wonder how routes were maintained and the conditions in those days.

Routes wern't maintained then....are they now?
@dhchoi1111 ай бұрын
@@bobelliott2748 The main route (DC route) is maintained by the guiding companies, primarily by the RMI. It's (including ladders on crave crossings) well kept during the season. Thankful for them.
@bobelliott274811 ай бұрын
Very interesting. When we climbed it was without guides, there were no ladders and we paralleled their route as did many others. We were told we couldn't use their route. I never saw a ladder on that mountain.

Congrats guys. Good job. I soloed this route a couple years back in 25 hrs car to car with a quick nap at camp Muir. I hope more people start doing it alpine style. It takes a lot outta you, but it’s worth it.

Congratulations on your car-to-car solo climbing. That's great! Alpine style is certainly a preferred way for me. Camping at Camp Muir or the high camp would also be amazing. Thanks for watching!

it's still "alpine style" if you do it with a high camp...

Good to see that mountain is still there. I climbed it in 1995 via the same route. Spent the night at the mid-camp, though. Climbed Shasta in one-push a few weeks later. Or was it the next year? That was a tough day.

Mine was about 15 miles. I had to stop the AllTrails recording at Camp Muir on our descent as my phone ran out of battery.

What would be the plan if you were coming down and a ladder for a crevasse crossing was gone? Say another climber threw it down into the crevasse or took it with them on their way down?

Good job! You didn’t go to Columbia Crest after entering the crater?

It was nine when we got to the crater rim, and we decided to descend as we were late already.

@@dhchoi11 Yeah that walk across the crater sucks! It does take some time and of course safety is important.

No problem. Maybe next time with better planning. The ranger told us to turn around at 6 am (no matter where we were) when I got a climbing permit. We stayed at the rim for only a couple of minutes. The snow had already become soft and slippery by the time we descended.

Exactly what I was thinking, have to cross the crater to reach the true summit, adding another half an hour at least.
