Your arctic skills are in full display here. Looked very cold but you were well prepared. Gorgeous views all around. Amazing that you have summited the highest peaks in California. Thank you for sharing!

I've seen a lot of vids of PCT hikers up there in the spring but never anyone alone in winter. Looked like an awesome day. Thanks for the vid.

Only in California. That is so beautiful. I have been to that area a few times. So glad I live in this state up in Northern California. I just love to see Southern California wilderness, so amazing.

Did this last January, snow was deeper but firm. I just used trail runners + microspikes and I summited much quicker than if there was no snow because of the direct route up the mountain. It was a lot of fun. It is amazing to have such a popular trail all to yourself.

It is indeed, very few people when there is snow

What a beautiful day hike Jarl! It sure looked cold, but the views were stunning. Enjoyed the music too.

Thank you Brian, it sure was cold up at the summit, almost got frostbite from taking a photo lol! Glad you like the music, its inspired by those places in the wilderness we love so much!

Wow!!! Great job! My husband and I started at mountain station. We started late, .8 into the peak and 400ft more climbing we could have reach it but the sun was setting, the wind is blowing stronger and the temps are going up. So, although it was tough for me to turn back, we did! And I’m glad we did cause it was so dark in the trail.

I actually think that winter is a superb time to hike if you can get good weather and have the right equipment. Air that is cold and dense makes for some crystal clear views.
@NorwegianXplorer5 жыл бұрын
Yes, agree, especially down here in Socal where the air can somewhat polluted hehe:-) Nothing like crisp winter air!

I’m planning to hike Mt San Jacinto in a week or two (early March) and saw your video. Never saw your channel before. Then I watched your San Gorgonio video from Vivian trailhead, which had more shots of you, and I realized, “ Hey, this is one of the guys that hikes with Joey Coconato!” Very nice channel and great info. I think I am going to do an over night backpack of the San Jacinto Peak Loop Trail (listed on All Trails app). If you are familiar with this, can you tell me if there is parking at that trailhead? I believe it is called Deer Springs trailhead. Thanks...

strathack33 hey, haha, very cool, yes, I hike with Joey for sure! There is parking at the deer springs trailhead yes, it fills up so be there very early, good luck, its a cool loop!

Another great video with brilliant camera work. Again you are one fit fella. I'm concerned about going up there on my PCT hike. You made it look like a kindergarten playground. Lovely. Thanks for sharing and well done. May I ask what is the Tram?
@NorwegianXplorer5 жыл бұрын
Thanks again, the tram is a tram you can take up from Palm Springs that puts you closer to the summit, but on the east side, its more exposed and has a steep slope that could be challenging if you dont have proper mountaineering experience.
@NorwegianXplorer5 жыл бұрын
I dont think you will have issues on the PCT, just take it slowly if you are not acclimatised to altitude, and you can take some ibuprofene that will help counter the effect of the brain swelling, which is actually why you get headaches at higher elevation, take them before you start climbing and it will help.

Great video! My son and I did this climb in June. There was no snow, and it was a really tough climb!! I couldn’t imagine how tough it would be with snow & ice. My hat’s off to ya! ~woodglue 😉
@NorwegianXplorer5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, luckily it was frozen solid so the walking wasn't too bad, the wind at higher elevations sucked though lol, also it had been several months since my last higher elevation hike, so I could def feel the altitude slowing me down.
@BackpackingWithWoodglue5 жыл бұрын
↖️ as you can see, I was dying with the altitude up there! I could recognize that in your breathing on the video. A couple months later, we climbed Mt Whitney and even with Diamox on board, we still struggled with the altitude. Living at 2500ft, I don’t know if I could ever get used to it. I agree that the ice is better than post-holeing or slipping and sliding on slush. I saw your micro spikes, soon crampons will be needed up there. ~woodglue 😉
@NorwegianXplorer5 жыл бұрын
@@BackpackingWithWoodglue Yeah, Whitney is also way higher than San Jacinto, those additional 3500ft makes it a whole lot worse, good job on climbing it! I keep my phone right under my nose while filming so you can really hear the breathing lol:-) I dont really think crampons will be needed on this trail though, I had both crampons and ice axe in my pack, but its not needed on this trail since there is no exposure anywhere, there isn't really anywhere you could slip and start sliding into a dangerous situation, its just about having some traction on your feet, if you come up from the tram its different with that last climb with exposure. I did however go to Mt Baden Powell this Thursday and thats a different story as far as slipping and sliding, there are several places on that mountain you could slide to serious injury or worse, thats crampon territory for me at least.
